DD_Arthur Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The herkybird sure is a cool aircraft. You wanna try being a "passenger" in one for a long flight and you might change your mind Jedi! This is where I live! Quote
BluBear Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 The herkybird sure is a cool aircraft. You wanna try being a "passenger" in one for a long flight and you might change your mind Jedi! I had the (dis)pleasure of riding in a Herc at RAF Lyneham about 12 years ago with the cadets. We were invited to join the crew as they practiced circuits and bumps around the airbase for around 45mins. I was the only one not to chunder apart from the crew and our accompanying officer, which to this day i'm immensly proud of! :laughing7: One of the freakiest things was looking out the side windows to see the wings wave up and down as the aircraft vibrated it's way into the merky Wiltshire sky. As a lad it astonished me how much flex there was! It was rather impressive jumping up into the flightdeck, that seemd to settle any tummy grumbles I had that's for sure. Fenrir, I believe you had a similar experience, did you not? Quote
1. DDz Quorum DD_Fenrir Posted January 3, 2012 1. DDz Quorum Posted January 3, 2012 Practically identical mate, down to the being the one of only two passengers not to relive breakfast (damn close run thing tho - i was hanging on the cargo netting feeling most unpleasent by the end!) and even the weather! Wiltshire murk indeed! Quote

Wiltshire murk indeed! Another thing that made me laugh... Keith (Casper) Talbot was also present on this Lyneham camp, and ever the 'heart-throb' he'd set his sights on a particular female cadet from the rival school. She didn't go much on him yakking into a bag that's for sure! Also, cracking video Arthur old chap! Oh, I really need to get gliding again! Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted January 4, 2012 2. Administrators Posted January 4, 2012 I wonder how long that runway was. Like the guy sat in the digger bucket too. Now that's a vantage point. Jabo Quote
rox Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 This is where I live! Wow, this is a beautiful video. I guess he's using the updraft from the wind hitting the cliffs? Quote
1. DDz Quorum DD_Fenrir Posted January 8, 2012 1. DDz Quorum Posted January 8, 2012 Controversial aircraft but some interesting fotage nonetheless: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Ki86x1WKPmE Quote
Crash Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Controversial aircraft but some interesting fotage nonetheless: Nice vid but I dont like the forward opening door. Taking off with that thing sticking out seems a bit odd Quote
DD_Arthur Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 The one, the only Wing Cmdr. Ken Wallis. In case you missed it this guy is ninety-five years old! Quote
BluBear Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Ken Wallis, what a legend. I'd love to visit his workshop! In response to the Hercules video, how about this crazy Italian C-27 Spartan at RIAT last year? Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted January 13, 2012 2. Administrators Posted January 13, 2012 Very impressive. Not to be tried with cargo on board I suspect. Mind you, Italians... Jabo Quote
PapaBear Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 while we are on the subject of crazy pilots here's one http://youtu.be/0vH2yKfDq5Q Quote
PapaBear Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Remember this ? an amazing family story. Quote
Kira Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Interesting... I guess I never really studied the F-35 very much. Was surprised to find that ArmA 2 got it right in the forward hinging canopy. I'd figured no one had done such things since the MiG-21F. Okay.... I wonder why they did that? To protect the pilot in high speed ejection, perhaps? Quote
1. DDz Quorum DD_Fenrir Posted January 24, 2012 1. DDz Quorum Posted January 24, 2012 Lovely vid, music let's it down a bit, would rather have had the symphonic overtones of the subject matter myself but hey ho. PS: might seem a bit samey for the the first half, but stick with it, some nice mixers pop in after 2 min... Quote
DD_Arthur Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Terrible music but some fantastic air to air! Quote
