    New Vid

F-15E Strike Eagle, A-6 Intruder, London, Paris, dynamic weather, and at the end, Afghanistan north enough for snowy mountains, F-4 gunsight and possibly... "Ka Klick!" Data cartridge??? Don't know about dynamic campaign but, one can dream. And did anyone notice the deck crew on the Forrestal? Probably just static.
  2. Just want to give a big tank you to everyone who participated in yesterday's fun and a special tank you to Friar for showing me the Tank Crew ropes.
  3. You're...😉 See, I'm getting better already.
  4. "Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times." DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY HEAD!
  5. Well my wife thought it would be cute to label the occasional box "Surprises" and "Mystery" which doesn't help. Endless sea not "see". God my lack of proof reading is appalling.
  6. I wasn't trying to sell you on it, just wanted to clarify that IL-2 BOX does support VR. I'm looking forward to trying it out at least. I personally am very prone to motion sickness. VR is a strange thing, certain things you'd think would definitely give you motion sickness don't, while a very few things will bring it on almost instantly. Driving cars, flying planes, riding a coaster and stuff like that don't make me sick at all. Well, in a twisty fur ball dogfight in DCS where you are pulling G's while looking back I can get a mild sense of motion discomfort but it's actually pretty cool and very immersive feeling. The killer for me is any game where you can walk around in first person without teleporting, like Espire 1 VR. That will make me barf if I turn off the teleportation movement.
  7. Don't know if this thread is considered necroed now but I just saw this. To the best of my knowledge, and for clarity sake, I believe IL-2 BOX supports VR and rather well at that from what I've read. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't played in over a year because downloading the updates was a P.I.T.A. before. Subsequently, I haven't tried it in VR yet. In fact, now I recall buying Flying Circus on sale because it supports VR and I thought VR would serve the more basic aircraft better than DCS with all it's complicated clickiness. I haven't tried it out either yet, hadn't even downloaded it. In fact, I have quite a few things I've purchased over the last year I haven't even installed because of the horrors of satellite. Couple of days and I'll be back in the swing with modern civilization. I did find out, before moving, that Starlink from Google and SpaceX was available now in North America, which relies on low earth orbit satellites rather than distant geosynchronous ones. It's in the trial phases so one has to buy their own equipment which is 400 USD plus the 100 USD per month subscription. Last I checked most folks were getting something like 200 to 300Mbps which is being ratcheted up periodically with updates. I think when it's all finished it's supposed to be like Gigabit speeds with pings around 30ms.
  8. Man, don't tell me that. LOL, I did a pretty good job of organizing when I boxed so hopefully it won't be too bad.
  9. To your earlier question regarding my daughter, yes would be the same one, she was probably 3 or 4 then, she's 16 now. I vaguely remember you remoting into my PC for IL2, but that was a LOOONG time ago. Must have been around my first day with the Dogz. As for the wife, she's still processing the change but she's happy as hell. Her mom's house is 6 minutes away, mine is ~20. She keeps remarking on things like "Ooh, that's gonna make things easier." regarding just about everything. Elementary, Middle and High School are all within 3 miles, stores and gas station are like 2 minutes from the house. Just got two of the three cats in the new house and it's funny watching them explore in bewilderment. All moving trucks are now unloaded and returned, furniture is in but not completely set up. Now comes the arduous task of finding the right boxes in the endless sea of too much stuff that is our garage now.
  10. Awesome, great job. Now if I could only get my kids to eat their veggies like that I really be onto something. UPDATE: In the new house, Spectrum is up and running. Hopefully I can get my desk and rig in some kind of usable shape tomorrow. On my son's PC right now. On his WIFI dongle, which will be updated shortly (not that it matters) I've been getting a consistent 65Mbs down and 22Mbs up. Funny, I'm not superstitious at all but, my wife was like "Hey it's Friday the 13th!" and I was all like, "Whatever". So I go to move a moving van from my mom's house, where I had it laying over while we closed on the house, and the bastard broke down on me half way, leaving me stranded, in the heat, in the middle of nowhere, with no cell phone (left it home like a moron). So, this tow truck guy drove by and said he'd have the company send a bigger wrecker capable of moving a Uhaul, but an hour later no one had shown up so I was like, "To hell with this" and knocked on someone's door. Dude spoke to me over the Ring system (found out later he was actually at work at the time) and he sent an old feller by, who called Uhaul for me. So help is on the way and guess what? The tow truck guy from earlier drives by again and says "Man, nobody came by to help you yet?" To which I said "Got it under control." Never using Buck's Towing that's for sure.
  11. It's about half an acre which is fine, two minutes from town but with the country to our backs. Coming from 12.9 acres out in the sticks it's going to be a huge quality of life improvement in pretty much every way. The old place was unrestricted, which was awesome, but it took 14 minutes to get anywhere. There were other drawbacks as well. Either way, the money I made off it combined with what we made off our last house enabled our current situation so in the long run well worth it. We netted about 92K off it in 6 years so not a horrible investment. The real estate market was crazy this summer, not fun at all, but I think things are cooling off just a bit now. It's a pretty bad time to buy and sell, this has been the worst real estate experience I've ever dealt with. We probably struck right when the iron was hot but it's been a fine example of Murphy's law. Our new place is central to 4 cities and several towns, the money we save on gas alone is going to be substantial. We can finally have food delivered to the house again.
  12. Beautiful. It all looks delicious. My daughter wants to start a garden but probably have to wait till next season. By the way, should be in the new house tomorrow, I have to pick up my gear from Spectrum. 400Mbs down, 20Mbs up! 🐑 P.S. Love it and best part is it's paid for. 🤗
  13. Every time I see those old movies of guys walking boards or beams 35+ stories up I get the heebie-jeebies.
  14. I'm not sure if I ever heard about this before, it sounded vaguely familiar.
  15. Personally don't think 5ms makes hardly any noticeable difference at all, especially for flight sims, it's 100Hz and supports HDR 10 too if that makes any difference. Did you see that driving game on that video I posted, I think it was Forza or Need For Speed, it looks pretty good to me. It's and MVA panel too so it'll have better color accuracy but it was just a suggestion. The GPU is going to be the killer, they are insanely overpriced now for what they are. It's supply and demand though and all this Covid mess has thrown everything out of whack. The RTX 2060 Super I got for $330 right before the craziness started are going for over $800 new and around $800 used. I've even seen some asking 1K on Ebay which is just stupid. I recently got into VR, and I'm sure some will disagree with me, but it's not a replacement for a good monitor and TrackIR. It's cool to try out, and there are some games and apps that are pretty cool, but for flying, my personal opinion, I tried it a few times and went back to the monitor. The cockpit proportions in the DCS hornet look off too, like down by your feet, it's kind of cartoonish. Playing on the monitor is just way more comfortable, convenient and practical for me at least. Call me old fashioned but I'm considering selling my headset, I haven't used it in 2 months. I do like it for driving games with a wheel though where you don't have to crook your neck all the way back in an office chair with your controllers on the desk trying to track that bogie. If it was a real plane it'd be a different story, probably real nice for a dedicated sim pit too. So here's another one that looks pretty good in the 3440x1440 category. 1ms, curved and 144Hz refresh. Damn, wouldn't mind having it myself. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824012017
  16. Ok, so, a while back, Nvidia started supporting AMD Free Sync as well as G Sync so as not to discourage anyone with a Free Sync monitor from buying an Nvidia cards. Might need a Displayport cable. Don't know how it stands now but back when I got my monitor, about 2 years ago maybe, the equivalent AMD Free Sync monitor would cost you about a hundred USD less or more. My point is, you can use either with an Nvidia cards but check specific model compatibility no matter which Sync you go with, do your research. I'm running 1080p at 75Hz on a 34 inch AMD Free Sync monitor on an RTX 2060 Super, Intel i7-10700K and 32GB of 3600Mhz memory. 1080p, but 2560 wide (2,764,800 pixels). In DCS on mostly High settings I'm capping out at 75FPS almost constantly. IL-2 BOX Maxed out is pretty much constantly capped at 75fps, I think the lowest it's ever been is maybe 65 but if it even does it's rare. Sometimes on DCS Supercarrier takeoff it'll get down to 45 if I look back while staged to launch but I'm still running an old version of DCS, 2.5 something (too much to download on satellite) so I'm sure it'll run even better with the latest optimizations I believe DCS has implemented recently. I picked up a couple of Lenovo 19 inch monitors for each side and now I can run triple monitor with the 34" ultrawide in the middle, but when I do that it's a video card crusher. Even if you go 1440p I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HUGELY recommend you go for an ultrawide preferably curved if you can but it's not necessary, I get no noticeable edge distortion on anything. They go even wider now but your going to be pushing a massive amount of pixels with anything over ultrawide and it's going to cost $$$$. If you want a deal on something that's not going to kill a graphics card and will look amazing, go with a 2560x1080p 34 inch with as high of a refresh as you can. Otherwise, go for a 3440x1440 and you'll thank me later. Just be aware that's like 4,953,600 pixels so you're gonna want a 3080 ti or better when the prices, IF the prices drop. I'm looking to pick up at least an RTX 3080, probably a ti. I'd love to get a 3090 but the prices are just way too ridiculous right now. https://www.newegg.com/viewsonic-vp3481a-34-wqhd/p/N82E16824117008?Item=9SIA00Y8331378

    Must Haves?

Absolutely, the more the merrier and I might be able to dig up a few more heads if I try. God willing, I'll be out of here Aug. 4th. My closing got pushed back two weeks because of appraisers being backed up. It'll take a few days to get settled in, but I'm sure I'll have my machine up and running first thing. I'll see what kind of upload speeds are available. Dang it, I knew I should have held out for a Ryzen 5900X, I might be trading up soon. Got an itchy trigger finger and built this i7-10700K, which is fine, but for hosting and other things, I'm not sure 8 cores is gonna be enough. Unless you think we can do it all with the Dogz server, I haven't been on any of the new ones. Hey, do either of you guys have IL-2 Tank Crew?

    Perfect, sounds like a plan.

Derp, I see it now. Um, no, Eastern time, what specific times are you talking about, might still work out, it's only a hour difference right?
  20. A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman… The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$450.00!" she cried, "$450.00 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $50.00, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $450.00”

That's interesting, which FFB stick are you using and where is page 2? After looking at your rap sheet I don't feel so bad now, I'm sure there's even worse out there. You're definitely right about the time but the good news is I did just save a ton of money on car insurance by switching to Geico...🤪

    Must Haves?

OK, just picked up the Mustang, Channel map and WW2 Asset pack. Don't know if you guys fly the Channel or Normandy map more, hope I got the right one. I was tempted to get the Spitfire, but feel the Stang is going to be more versatile and a better overall aircraft. Might be a Spit or 109 in my future but damn this sim is getting expensive and I don't even have a Thrustmaster Warthog. I never realized how much I have invested in DCS, my purchase of the original Ka-50 Black Shark isn't even on here. I don't remember how I got the A-10C module either. Had a copy of the original Lock On, hell it must have been back in 2003, who knew what a monster it would turn into, it's practically taking up it's own 1TB M.2 SSD now. Well, at least we got the Marianas map for free, then the devils had to go and temp me with a soon to be F-4U. Guess I could have done without the Syria map but, don't know, something about that area appeals to me more than the Persian Gulf. I considered getting the Nevada map but had to draw the line somewhere. Not that I'm complaining, don't get me wrong but that's it, I'm not buying anything for a while, well, maybe next year. I'm in the middle of moving and my ass is so tight right now, if I sat on a piece of coal, in a week you'd have a diamond. 😲 For reference, here's generally what I have, the A-10C as well. Should be good enough to touch all the bases online play wise. Doesn't show miles used but with the exclusion of the A-10C being on here it's a pretty close ballpark. $328.89. You can throw in a 100+ dollar drive dedicated to it too. Not too bad but it's a kind of hard pill to swallow when I think I payed $9.99 for IL-2 1946 back in the day. While DCS is awesome, I'm sure it will never come close to the mileage of fun per gallon of cash. Oh well, got to pay to play as they say. At least I don't gamble. I mean, one oil change on a Cessna probably cost more so if you look at it that way... And yes I know, some folks have thousands invested in sim pits. This post was meant to be funny more than anything. And let me just say with the latest updates, DCS looks absolutely stunning, worth every penny. Now all I need is an RTX 3090 Super TI FTW. Awe hell might as well make it 3 of them. 🤑 Order Cart Price Status Actions 1273870 07/12/2021 DCS: WWII Assets Pack 1 $14.99 USD Completed Details 1273867 07/12/2021 DCS: P-51D Mustang 1 DCS: The Channel Map 1 $59.98 USD Completed Details 1270907 07/09/2021 DCS: Combined Arms 1 $19.99 USD Completed Details 1270211 07/08/2021 DCS: Syria Map 1 $41.99 USD Completed Details 1127270 12/19/2020 DCS: F-14 Tomcat 1 $59.99 USD Completed Details 923661 04/03/2020 DCS: Supercarrier 1 $24.99 USD Completed Details 920849 04/01/2020 DCS: Persian Gulf Map 1 $24.99 USD Completed Details 920320 04/01/2020 DCS: F/A-18C Hornet 1 $39.99 USD Completed Details 112579 06/27/2013 DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade (download version) 1 $11.99 USD Completed Details 112533 06/26/2013 Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 (download version) 1 $29.99 USD Completed Details
