Rattler Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Myself and the wife travel very light, a trick I learned in the Marine Corps, put all your clothes on, remove a layer as they become soiled. Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 so you'll be full carrying BG, Pook and their concubines then, correct? I don't think that has been decided yet. Quote
delta7 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Pooka mentioned on TS that he and Mrs Pooka might come north to Scotland after Duxford. If this is the case or if any others plan to come to the best part of UK Quote
Tribunus Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Between BG and the post about going to Normandy, I'm becoming interested in trying to make this trip. So let me ask some questions. Quote
Jediteo Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 That'll be fun explaining to my parents. Why? (be careful now) Yes Mother, I am meeting up at Duxford with a lot of middle-aged men I met on the internet. We are all spending the weekend together. Just kidding, Duxford is going to be excellent. Shaping up to be quite a trip. Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 I have asked Mody Dick's if they can recommend a place to stay and if there is any overnight parking available near them. Will post back here if I get a reply. Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Reply from Moby Dick. Try Days Inn (Kennington Road) that is right opposite us, and has 24 hr parking for £10 per day, don't forget congestion though! Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 I hope someone in the UK will give Days Inn a dingle and find out if they have any vacancies for the Thursday night Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 17, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 17, 2009 Yes Mother, I am meeting up at Duxford with a lot of middle-aged men I met on the internet. We are all spending the weekend together. Now you mention it...hmmm. I'll call the Days Innn tomorrow Jim, should have some idea of prices later. Jabo Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 17, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 17, 2009 Looking like about £90 a night. Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 17, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 17, 2009 congestion charge would be £16 - so £26 for two days + parking at the hotel Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Looking like about £90 a night. For a single or double? Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 congestion charge would be £16 - so £26 for two days + parking at the hotel Thought you only needed one night. Are you sure of the congestion charge? Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 18, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 18, 2009 double room - no singles available (apparently). Congestion charge is £8 per day plus 24hrs parking at £10. Will most likely book tomorrow. Quote
Tribunus Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 What in the world is a congestion charge? Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 18, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 18, 2009 A bright idea the Mayor of London had a while back to charge people to drive in certain areas of the capital in an effort to reduce the congestion in the city at certain times of the day. Basically, your car gets photographed on the way into the CC zone, and this generates a charge which you pay by ringing a phone number and giving your card details. For some obscure reason, this is not a popular idea. Quote
Blairgowrie Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Thanks Jabo. 90 quid split two ways doesn't sound too bad as long there are two single beds and not one double. I am sure the guys who are getting a lift will be happy to chip in towards the parking, petrol and congestion charge..... unless JP is in the same vehicle. Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 18, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 18, 2009 90 quid split two ways doesn't sound too bad as long there are two single beds and not one double Nope, that's a 'double' room as opposed to a 'twin' room. Much as I like Jedi, I feel I have to draw the line somewhere lol. Quote
Jediteo Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Quite right Jabo, I pretty ok meeting you all, but sleeping with you? No way. Quote
1. DDz Quorum Sid Posted November 18, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted November 18, 2009 Worth checking if the double beds split in half to make singles....seriously, they may be velcroed together, I have seen this on occasion. Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 18, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 18, 2009 Good point, I'll check Quote
Tribunus Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Let me see if I'm following this correctly. We start off in London, staying near BG at the Days Inn (Kennington Road) for 90 UK Pounds per night, plus all these quaint London 'fees'. Quote
1. DDz Quorum Painless Posted November 18, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted November 18, 2009 ~S~ Trib, Spot on so far M8 ! LOL ~S~ Painless. Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted November 18, 2009 2. Administrators Posted November 18, 2009 Ish, except I believe some of the UK-based contingent will be joining BG and Pook in London on the Thursday only, to 'do' the IWM in Lambeth. We'll then travel en masse to Duxford Friday morning, whereupon those that wish could go round the museums and hangers at the airfield or do whatever else takes their fancy. Friday evening @ the Red Lion, followed by show on Saturday, possibly a curry Saturday night (if Jim and I can work out where the restaurant is), more beer at the RL. Recover Sunday. Take Mr & Mrs Pook back to London and Mr & Mrs BG to Heathrow Monday, and those going to Normandy keep going South! Jabo Quote
1. DDz Quorum Pooka Posted November 18, 2009 1. DDz Quorum Posted November 18, 2009 Sounds like a ideal plan Jabo, but myself and the Mrs will be going north for a few days and will not require further need of your transportation. Quote
