  1. Nice find Artie! I think I've stumbled upon it before, but forgot all about it... now bookmarked!
  2. This is fantastic! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=97d_1304709822 Quoted from the description: "Unlike other places where speed may dominate pilot discussions, up here it’s all about how slow you can go. It’s directly related to how quickly you can get off the ground and how little room you need to land. It’s called, "STOL" or “short take-off and landing” and here in Alaska it is synonymous with flying. This weekend pilots from throughout Alaska and across North America will converge on the coastal town of Valdez for the annual Fly-In & Air Show. The big event is Saturday’s STOL competition. A typical pilot in a small single-engine airplane might use 1,000 or 1,500 feet to land on a paved runway, bush pilots often need just a few hundred feet. Sometimes less, because most of the time bush pilots aren’t landing on a runway or anything resembling one. At the STOL competition in Valdez, takeoffs and landings are measured in tens of feet. Pilots pull up to a line and try to get off the ground with as little ground roll as possible. They also try to touch down as soon as they pass a line on the ground in the shortest possible distance. The massive 35-inch tires are inflated to less than 3 psi to absorb the impact of landing on rocks and other debris. They also give the wing a high angle of attack to aid in decreasing the takeoff and landing distances. The engine has been stroked out an additional 15 cubic inches (375 total) and puts out around 210 horsepower. To help balance the heavier engine, the composite propeller weighs just 14 pounds. The result is helicopter-like performance. “It’s just full power with the brakes locked and you get the tail up,” you just rotate immediately as you release the brakes and it just lifts off the ground."
  3. clue to colour scheme or is it diversion tactics?! Also the desert coloured Buchon has flown and is expected to make legends laong with the other resident BoB painted example, yay! It will be nice to have more axis aircraft represented for sure! (I know they're not real 109's, but they look the part IMO!)
  4. What a beautiful restoration, seen here at it's debut airshow in NZ recently. I believe it is to be shipped to it's new home in the USandA soon. Being a bit of a warbird buff, by my recollection that makes three airworthy early model P-40's. Another P-40C is with Paul Allen's FHC at Paine Field and here in good old blighty we are lucky to have a P-40B at Duxford with TFC. Hopefully we'll get to see this one at Flying Legends this year! http://www.youtube.com/embed/-IcNqTNP770
  5. Who's running Eyefinity? Well, i've uploaded a special 5040x1080 version of this month's DD Calendar. Ready to D/L from the vault now!

  7. Hey guys, this month's screen is up and on time for once! May is all about the Fw-190 and ROX is the contributor this time round. Get it here!
  8. Yes yes yes! Kev you certainly know how to press my buttons, lol. I'm there, call me a Spitfire whore, I don't care :)
  9. Many happiness in celebrating the anniversary of ones birth old chap!
  10. I can't take credit for it, not my work it was sent to me! Wonder how long it'll stay up for? lol
  11. Oh there's no doubting his weapons handling and knowledge, but apparently he is not Dimitri the professional Russian but in fact a well known American commentator for call of duty by the name of FpsKyle who also happens to be a weapons expert of sorts. He's from Georgia I believe. Still a lot of fun to watch though! Glad you enjoyed
  12. I've been subscribed to this chap for a while now, not sure if you guys have heard of him, but he certainly makes me chuckle! FPS Russia - Channel Fave videos are 'Russian Fruit Salad', 'Dual Wielding M-16's' and 'Shooting while pepper sprayed' Enjoy, and please... Have nice day. (p.s. I know, he's not real, but it's still funny!)
  13. Tools i've used in the past mate: - Hijackthis (purely to identify and delete nasty registry entries etc) If you have any queries, send me your hijackthis logfile and I should be able to decifer what is good and what is bad because this tool can cripple your system if used incorrectly! - Spybot Search & Destroy - Adaware These all apply well to XP, but I confess since running Win7, I'm pretty happy with MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). It's relatively lightweight, simple to use and regularly updated.
  14. I should be online tonight (first time in ages!) YAY!

    Great episode. The lucky bar-stewards!
  16. Good for you delta, glad to hear it. Despite the apparent troubles you're all having i'm still rather jealous of all you 'Clodders'! My PC would probably implode if I even hinted at putting the disc in the drive let alone actually run it lol! Still... you guys are like my beta testers making it all perfect for when I can finally afford a new rig
  17. Happy Easter all! I've spent the time so far repairing and flying my Rc model aircraft, enjoying what feels like July weather, it really is uncanny. This time last year I did a local cycling event and I remember still wearing almost full winter gear and donning my waterproof more than once! Hope to get back online some time this week, hope you are All well.
  18. Sorry can't make it tonight chaps, have other plans. I know it's been a while since i've flown with you all, a combination of heavy workload and taking advantage of this lovely early summer we're having in Blighty means i'm doing other things that are best enjoyed outside! Have fun.
  19. Hi chaps, Those of you coming to Flying Legends this year may be interested to see the progress of the resident P-47G (Curtis built Razorback) that The Fighter Collection have been restoring for the last few years. We've seriously missed the presence of a 'Jug' since they sold 'No Guts No Glory' a couple of years back and to have a rare bird like this one nearing completion is rather exciting! Check out the latest progress over on this thread at WIX: Clicky Clicky! The last time I saw her, she was on jacks and lacking engine/prop u/c and many other parts, so the guys have been seriously busy of late!
  20. I'm rather excited! Whooooooooooop!!!!! UP3 FTW OMG
  21. For April the subject is old and new. This month saw the release of Cliffs of Dover in most countries and therefore a Battle of Britain theme was chosen. The upper image shows the old, Fruitbat's 'Nine Lives' campaign on Legacy IL2 captured superbly by FT and the new is SID making mincemeat of the boche in Oleg's new masterpiece! (tbc, lol). Now available to download in the vault.
  22. So after some hectic workingweeks and a short holiday in Ireland i'm back, and bring you April for the DD Calendar! (Better late than never!) It's ready to D/L now.

  23. Good question, I think you have a valid point though. Imagine if they were way out to sea and the 130 went U/S on the deck. Where would you put it?! lol. Great skill from the pilots in question, especially as they had no previous experience on type, or any multi engined type at all!
  24. Saw this posted on one of the aviation forums, the quality of the footage isn't great but it's quite a sight all the same!
