  1. We couldnt bomb from altitude due to cloud cover so, we went in low. We/I didnt see any ground target icons, only a railway engine in the station. Flattened some houses again.

  3. Mission Date 23/11/44 402nd FS - Attack Transportation Targets, Rotterdam 485th FS - Attack Rail Targets, Den Haag 410th BG - Attack Transportation Targets, Gouda Debrief: 370th FG 402nd: Despite fierce AAA resistance the 402nd pressed home a determined attack and whilst only a handful of enemy vehicles were found (and destroyed) they wrought terrible carnage upon the enemy's flak arm, escaping with only moderate damage to one airframe and minor damage to a second, and all 8 aircraft returned successfully to base. All told the 402nd claimed 38 ground targets destroyed, a superlative performance in the face of stiff enemy fire - well done boys, impressive stuff! 485th: The 485th also faced off against a savage barrage of anti-aircraft fire whilst decimating the rail facilities at The Hague; alas they were not so lucky in avoiding the worst of the enemy's fire. Lt Rox, despite receiving heavy damage pressed home his attacks and claimed 10 ground targets prior to force landing. So too 2nd Lt. Starling, who claimed some ground units before taking hits and being obliged to break off, though he thankfully he managed to recover at Florennes. 2nd Lts. Artois and Tonar were unable to claim targets before they too had to break off and find places to ditch thanks to taking heavy punishment from the guns. Alas, 2nd Lt. Iden Kare's aircraft was seen to strike the ground during an attack run and it presumed he was killed in the subsequent conflagration. It is unclear whether he was struck by flak or misjudged his run and recovered too late. Nonetheless, this recent member to the squadron was already starting to make his mark and his loss will be felt by all. All told the 485th claimed a solid 27 ground targets, but at a cost - though one that could have been greater, especially considering the brutal defensive fire. Well done to those of you who had the presence of mind to get your aircraft back to friendly territory - whilst the losses in machines are troublesome in the short term, the fact we have managed to keep you the pilots is a far more important resource to retain. 410th BG The 410th had a rare unsuccessful mission today, the stiff and varying winds at altitude playing havoc with their bomb runs; whilst making what seemed like solid drops from the bomb-sight their runs were frustratingly off target and inconclusive.

  6. First of all, congratulations to the 402nd ! It sounds like you boys had an even rougher time of things than we did regarding AAA. Having said that we have concluded that the bosh troops manning the AAA you came across were almost certainly raw recruits whereas our chaps were seasoned veterans hence the difference in accuracy !? Just go with it! 😉😘 Seriously, bloody good show both 402nd and 485th. We look forward to meeting 2nd Lt Iden Kare’s replacement as we are now a man down for the officers “knock out whist” fours team.

  10. Regarding free roaming on the map : I do have the impression that if the brief states 'there's your target' and people drop in at the start point, well, that limits the roaming free is it? If one reads the map, roads will still dictate the route. Rivers and bridges will... Maybe too much hassle? I dunno ... As for 'not to have lots and lost of AI units active on the map' do we have an idea on numbers? For sure, that's very relevant. How many did you have in the latest missions? They did perform very nicely ... Edit: That put-tank-on-train is a nice idea... very nice!

  11. Thanks guys, useful input. On the subject of no route on the map, letting the players navigate to the location. It is considered best practice not to have lots and lost of AI units active on the map all at once. To get round this the units people came across were only "activated" when players came within a certain distance by someone entering a "zone". If players were allowed free roam over a map they may not enter these "zones", or the zones would have to be made quite large to cover all possible routes, which is doable, so worth considering. I now have the way to hide spawn points until a player gets to a "trigger". This way now re-spawn points set into the distance will not show and therefore give away the possible areas of conflict. A multi-arms scenario is possible. Players could decide themselves at spawn in who wanted to take what type of tank, although as Painless suggests, the speed differential will need to be considered, or some transport "gadget" (drive the Su152 to a given point, perhaps a railway station. This triggers the tank being "loaded" onto the train. It travels to another location (a new spawn point) where the player can pick it up again. Or a "truck" could carry it. If the truck was to be killed, you loose the tank. Could even have limited numbers of units available to make players protect their tank. I definitely could have done with more targets. As we get more proficient at gunnery we are taking the units out before they have had a chance to engage us. Appreciate the input, keep it coming (good and bad), will only make the next event better.

  12. Its not so bad, as the kits are simple. But I have a magnifying lamp if I need it but it just makes my eyes cross. Here's my current setup. I've since organized a bit. Note the 69' Fastback in assembly. I started that kit in 2001. (Hated the look of testors enamel so shelved it. Its back on with acrylics.) These little buggers were hard to see. Yes they are bog standard army men. (were) Mostly to try out some paint and brush techniques. Getting a little wild. Dollar store toys are cheap practice. Close up on the Mustang. First order was to prime and repaint over the metallic red seats. Not sure what I was thinking back then. Faux wood trim and 2 tone withe leather seats looks much better. Don't like the box art so Im going with a dark gloss blue finish. The shelf of future possibilities. (boxes for the yak, mig, and cobra still on the shelf.)
