  1. Great read thanks. Interesting how much time spent in ground school.
  2. I went 64 bit a few months ago and had no problems with drivers or anything. Somewhere they talk about how much memory IL2 uses. 64 bit can boost that to 4Gb with the Ultra 2.0. That alone is worth it.
  3. Be aware one of the downloads for Gamebooster carries a virus. Cost me a couple of weeks of headaches.
  4. Then for older games like IL2 you want a chip with faster speed, not so much more cores at slower speed. Maybe price out the 3.0 or 3.16 Mhz chip then
  5. I have a core duo 2.66 CPU and I was thinking it's time for a little more speed. Dunno if the quad core will make much difference in IL2. Maybe price out a faster chip?
  6. OK I found the problem. Apparently some maps have a memory leak that will eventually crash the map. I searched AAA forums for memory leak. I gather problems are displayed in the console with ##### Right when the map loads pull up the console and look for those. Apparently some maps lock everyone up online after some time period. All the maps that do so exhibit errors in the console when you first load the map. Load a map, pull up console, and if you see those errors that look like this in the console: ##### House without collision (3do/Buildings/Port/BaseSegment/live.sim ##### House without collision (3do/Buildings/Port/Floor/live.sim ##### House without collision (3do/Buildings/Port/BaseSmallSegment/live.sim the map will eventually lock up. I've never seen it, but these guys fly in groups all the time and see it a lot. http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2757&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=memory+leak&start=30 I checked that map and it does have the errors. Nothing to be done about it without tracking down the offending object I guess.
  7. With all mods disabled to stock 4.09 I can last the whole mission but you can still see at the end it's beginning to slow down and would eventually freeze. Not a hint of this online or in coops, only single player campaign.

  9. In some single campaigns, not all, my game will slow down and eventually come to a complete stop. I'll go from 60 fps or more and the longer the mission lasts the lower my framerate will go, right down to an unresponsive computer that needs a shutdown via the restart button. CPU use shows almost nothing at that point. It's like some file loads up with stuff and the game just comes to a stop. This is not recent with any mod pack or version. It's always been there. Any ideas?
  10. I never saw the point in this. If you're going to spend this kind of time, build a 75% scale that you can FLY.
  11. I wonder about people sometimes. When we were in Vegas we went hiking up some canyon down farther south in the Anza-Borrego desert, about 3 miles in 100+ deg temps. Not so bad if you're in decent shape but I saw so many unprepared, "unathletic"
  12. In the 1950s, professional magician John Mulholland wrote a manual to teach CIA spies the art of deceit. Now declassified, Mulholland's instructions have been published as The Official CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception (by H. Keith Melton and Robert Wallace). http://www.coasttocoastam.com/article/cia-tricks
  13. Damn, the entire script is there. Some people .......
  14. While watching Apollo 13 I noticed something that is bugging me. Just when the 3 get into earth orbit and at the time the engines should shut down Bill Paxton playing Fred Haise yells "seeco" (cico?). I assume it's some test pilot lingo but can't find reference to it anywhere beyond cico for Clock In, Clock Out. anyone?
  15. I think 20:00 GMT is 3 pm EST. I might be able to join in. It's for fun so a dogfight is better than a co-op. Some poor sap crashes on take-off and he'll be sitting out the entire mission.
  16. The Germans did try to land spies in Britain but I think they were all captured and most turned. And I think they did manage to land saboteurs in America but they were picked up quickly after a couple of bombs in a shipyard (I think). I think the closest they got to an insurgency was Ireland, or was that WW1? The shipload of guns intercepted? The thing you must have is overwhelming support of local people, the Nazi's master race theory didn't go very far in getting support of the "inferior" local populace.
  17. My brother-in-law is a cop in Edmonton. He's trying to get in to the K-9 unit.
  18. Any new stick is going to have a ton of new stuff to deal with. Just map your basic controls and add on as you feel comfortable. I've had mine for 3 years and am still adding the odd thing here and there.
  19. Is this what you're looking for? [HotKey move] JoystickDevice0 AXE_Y=elevator JoystickDevice0 AXE_X=aileron AXE_RX JoystickDevice0=trimaileron AXE_RY JoystickDevice0=-trimelevator AXE_RZ JoystickDevice1=rudder AXE_U JoystickDevice0=-flaps AXE_X JoystickDevice1=brakes MouseAXE_Z=pitch AXE_Z JoystickDevice0=-power
  20. You could cut a "U" shape from an old credit card and slip it under the spring for more tension but I suspect the play is internal and it won't help. I've never noticed it as a problem. I did find putting some non-petroleum lip balm (beeswax) on the shaft inside the spring helped the "stickiness" of the stick. Lubing the cone didn't really do anything. Pedals have holes for screws. I have mine wedged against the wall with a large book as a spacer but they do move in a panic maneuver, normal operations are just with the toes but sometimes you push pretty hard. One day I'll put a couple of screws in to hold em.
  21. I know that one Christmas Eve soldiers in the trenches heard each other singing and ended up sharing treats before the officers put a stop to it so it isn't impossible. The Red Baron was a fighter pilot that killed without remorse. He himself said it was about sneaking upon people and murdering them before they knew what happened. I doubt he would have taken the chance of landing.
  22. Pilots are taught to "step on the ball" to fly straight. You want to set up your pedals so that when the ball in the slip/skid tube is to the right side, pushing on the right pedal brings it to the center. I don't load a profile for the pedals either. I just set it up in the game controls. Set up your FOV so you can see the ball when flying in normal view, I move my player back in the cockpit with the trackIR position, and using the rudder will quickly become second nature.
  23. Just check that your desktop settings for text size is set to default or 100%. Right click on desktop, screen resolution, "make text and other items larger or smaller" When I exit to desktop in game the resolution is the same as the game and some icons aren't visible, I though I could work around that by changing the above setting. Didn't take effect till reboot (by then I forgot I did it) and all kinds of strange things happened to Freetrack display, some of it looked like that. Took a while to figure out.

    TrackIR advice

Get Track IR if you can afford it. Freetrack works as well but in addition to tweaking settings you have to get a suitable webcam and build the tracking part on your head. I'm using it with few complaints and once all the parts were gathered it took a few hours to build. Cost $40. http://www.dangerdogz.com/forums/index.php/topic,42.45.html
  25. I just did the same thing. I just let it install IL2 in the default. The Ubisoft folder in Program Files has almost nothing in it. 8 files The Ubisoft folder in Program Files(x86) has the game installed, maybe that's what they meant? I found some things (custom mouse button assignments) didn't work unless I "run program as administrator". I've been screwing around with any user permission settings I can find to run every thing as admin.
