Hi chaps,
If historical accuracy is important to you in regards to the Normandy 2.0 map please read the linked post and if you agree, like the post as the more likes/thanks the post gets the more likely it is they’ll address the issues:

MOAR UPDATE!
QuoteHi
The Normandy2 map is nearing completion. The development team would like to thank the participants of the DCS Forum for their great interest in the project and for their active participation in the discussion of the first results shown last fall. On the map added the original airfield Orly and standart airfields Stoney Cross, Lymington, Odiham, Deadland, Friston, Amiens-Glisy, Poix, Ronai, which were important for this theater. The total number of airfields will be 65. In recent months, considerable effort has been devoted to the task of streamlining the project, and a great deal of work has been done to adjust the color scheme of the whitewashed component parts of the project - buildings, fields, and trees. Much attention was paid to the original objects of Paris and London, including famous historical monuments. Transport and military infrastructure have been worked out in detail.Original objects

(Thanks to the guys from the forum, they made the changes that were possible)
What time is it now?

Hey all,
Just to remind you that up until a few minutes ago the DCS Stable Release version and the Open Beta versions were the exact same build number, so you could join an Open Beta server with a Stable Release client or vice versa.
Because the Open Beta has been updated this will now change; those of you flying Stable will no longer be able to join the Open Beta server.
This is a temporary arrangement, at some point the builds will converge again.
Can I ask that those of you with both versions show those on Stable only some consideration and maybe put down your new shiny things for a mo and join them flying on Stable for assistance and company?
Alternatively there are routes to convert your Stable build into the Open beta should you wish. Please just ask.

Okay.
Downloading it now, having the intention to add it to our Open Beta server. And intentionally downloading it to my OB install as well. Rather intense this...
❤️
Thanks FT.24 minutes ago, FoolTrottel said:So got a question here: it's on our OpenBeta server now - should it also be installed on the Stable one?
Yes please!

This question was posed by @Friar a couple of nights ago during a Scooter session and it reminded me of a response I had posted at ED forums to a question of F/A-18 vs F-14 discussion. I thought I'd include it here for information and further dicussion:
QuoteHornet challenges:
1. Remembering the avionics management steps required at any given moment to accomplish the mission
2. Fuel!
3. Energy/AoA management - it's easy to get slow very quickly in the Hornet thanks to the carefree handling but not so easy to get fast again
4. Throttle response - or more accurately lack thereof! The lag between your demand for more power and the downright laissez-faire attitude with which the Hornet responds is the most challenging part of getting back aboard the boat [not quite so bad these days as the throttle response has been improved... Fen]
Tomcat challenges
1. No G-limiter - flight control systems will not restrict your surface displacements to keep the jet within structural limits. Ham-fistery, particularly at higher airspeeds will be rewarded with many broken things...
2. High AoA handling - you'll soon discover what those pedals down by your feet are for! And fighting years and years and years of instinctively ingrained behaviour by trying not to use any lateral stick when attempting to accomplish rolling manoeuvres above 18 units AoA will definitely bamboozle you!
3. No AMRAAM - used to breaking defensive away from your target when your Slammer goes pitbull in a medium range fight? Not any more! If you're outta Phoenixes, then you'll be throwing Sparrows and you gotta track that sumbitch all the way in....
4. No stand-off Ground attack - when you're A2G in the Cat you're more likely to be in the WEZ of the ADAs at your target. Better plan your attack axis carefully and/or coordinate with friends [not quite so bad these days with the Lantirn and Laser Guided Bombs but still a factor... Fen]
5. You are the system integrator! No SA page in the Cat, so you have to reference the radar/RWR and keep the threat picture mentally (though the datalink and ground stabilised TID helps...)
6. AWG-9 - at the one moment a powerful and indispensable ally and at others a frustratingly limited and expensive piece of ballast; know and understand what it's good at and colour your tactics to make the best of it (i.e. don't point it towards mountains looking for that low level pop-up group AWACS just called and expect to see owt..)
7. That's One Big Pussy, or "I Taut I Taw a Puddy Tat!": most of what you face A2A is smaller than you and harder to see; you, on the other hand, are flying something with the lifting area equivalent to two tennis courts. If you lose sight of him, he ain't lost sight of you!
8. In(ish) the Groove: Hornet goes where your velocity vector is pointed; the Cat goes where it's inertia is taking it. No secondary surfaces will move automatically to keep the plane going where you pointed it; flying down to the carrier this really shows and requires deliberate but precise coordinated control inputs when making corrections cos it is super easy to over do it and end up looking like a tribute to Cougar's freaked-out approach from the Topgun movie.
That said, I like the Hornet but I love the Tomcat. Must be a masochist!
And yes @fruitbat we know how awesome the F-16 is... can't land on the boat though can it?

Sid has asked if we can add the OV-10 to our server availability; as this means asking you all to download and install I thought it only polite to ask if you would be happy to oblige?

Cheers Fen. Is it possible for the Bronco to be put on the server?
It's possible....
But it does mean that anyone who wishes to join the server has to have the module installed; I'll ask everyone politely if they are happy to have another unofficial mod a/c in their hangar...

Absolutely Sidders!
Will do some refresher training myself in the A-4 this week to make sure I’m giving good gen…- 1

Oh, another thing I just remembered - did you make the mission or is it from another source?
A base has to have a refuelling truck and a cargo truck that is on the same side as you (blue/red) to access stores.
-
Happy New Year Skidders!
First step is to ensure the canopy is open - a lot of modules will not allow rearming refuelling with the canopy closed; you'll still be allowed to access the refuelling/ream menu, you'll laboriously make your edits and then... nada! This happens to me in the Mosquito a lot as I often forget to open the side window!
