2. Administrators Jabo Posted August 10, 2010 2. Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2010 So, a week after Duxford I drag the gf along to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Three main reasons for going; 1. F22, 2. Vulcan, 3. EADS BF 109 (the genuine article - none of this Buchon nonsense) I've seen the Vulcan plenty, but there's always room for another time - The F22 and 109 though - that was going to be two whole NEW experiences. Some other stuff first though; Globemaster III New paintwork to celebrate 558's 50th birthday - good going. Lunatic F-16 (either Belgian or Dutch - I forget which) First 'first' of the day - F-18 Super Hornet Second 'first' - First public outing for the new Airbus A400 - The eventual replacement for the C130 RNZAF B757 At this point we got to the BoB Flypast... 2. Administrators Jabo Posted August 10, 2010 Author 2. Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2010 ...and then the Lancaster turned up... ...then time for some more noisy stuff...
2. Administrators Jabo Posted August 10, 2010 Author 2. Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2010 First the Harrier; Then the third and final 'first' - The F22 This display was probably one of the best I have ever seen, tailslides, cobras, vectored turns, the lot Almost time to go, so a walk towards the static park
2. Administrators Jabo Posted August 10, 2010 Author 2. Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2010 And finally, at the end of 8hrs of flying, a true icon. That's the lot, but a fantastic day. Hope you like 'em Jabo

(Now very tempted to replace the Hind pic on my Desktop - but won't ... not yet...) Thanks FT, here's a youtube clip I found which shows just how good the Raptor display was and how annoying the commentator was too! Even more than the French guy at Duxford!! JensenPark
Where's the pic of Claire with the "Can we go now, already?" look on her face?
Kimosabi
Ah, the "Rote Sieben" G-4. Busy plane that one. I love the DB605's. A Merlin is good but sounds crap in comparison. Sweet display by the F-22.
DD_Arthur
Nice pics Jabo. 'That one' is now my desktop. My brother-in-law went to RIAT. He loves jets and the Raptor display was like nothing he'd ever seen before.

Shadrach
When I were a nipper in the 60s I lived in North Devon and the Vulcans from Chivenor flew over our house every day.
