Naturally, although not a lot of people know that...

Sorry

Painless is a much better actor than Michael Caine.

If you need proof, consider this.

Think about how long Painless has been able to fool his employer into believing that he is a useful and valuable employee.

Susan Yorke in 'forties vintage lingerie.........furnurgh.......... :knight:

Edit;

Actually if you're a Briton or perhaps a Canadian or Anzac of a certain age there is a scene where 'we' catch Heinkels coming in, unescorted, over the north sea....and then Ron Goodwin's brilliant music score kicks in.....

still guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of my neck respond and part of the reason this sim still has a grip on me. ;)

Such as Arthur? Great scene, I think we all have that tune going through our heads flying in this game.

I bought a edition of flypast magazine that had a few pages on how they made it. I could scan it in and post the PDF in the vault if you'd like.

Yes, thats the one, Jedi. Thankyou. I would be very interested in reading said article btw.

My mum was nine and my dad was fourteen in 1940. This film and the events it portrays still have a real resonance for this generation.

At the time it was very much "if we can keep the bastards at bay till winter we might see this through."

Of course I'm still searching for the elusive directors cut of this scene which I believe has Susan Yorke, in her underwear, flying one of the Spits!! :roflmao:

Sorry Arthur, but it seems I forgot to pack it with me when I moved. I'll try to scan it when I go home this christmas.

An interesting take on an actual raid very early in the Battle. I'll have to check the diary for the date, but there was an unescorted raid by Heinkels which incurred so many losses that it effectively removed that Luftflotte from the order of battle for most of the rest of the summer.

Brilliant score to that film, I have part of it on my iPod.

August 15th 1940:74 Luftwaffe aircraft launched from bases in Denmark and Norway are lost on what will be remembered as "Black Thursday".

Thank God for Ultra.

That scene where the gunner gets his goggles bloodied nearly made my poor grandmother throw up when she took me to see it the first week it came out (and Patton to). I made her sit through the movie twice...you could do that back then.

I have three DVD versions, one VHS, and I still watch it every few mos. I used to have the Air Classics issue that was devoted to the making of it back in 70, but I have no idea what happened to it.

One reason it's so good is the HUGE role the advisers played on set.....guys like Adolf Galland, Hugh Dowding (in his wheelchair), and about the whole surviving RAF that was still around back then. I just wish they had saved all the hundreds of feet of film that they didn't use.

Galland took up one of the Buchons and was tearing up the field "showing them how it was done" at one point. Some great tales from that production.

"Home and tea", I love that. It's so..........British.

I also have a DVD of the music that is excellent, and has the original theme that was never used as well. I wish I could make the RAF and Luftwaffe themes play in the sim when appropriate.
