Upgrade PC - need advice - Falconise?!

~S~ mates.

If anyone would help me with recomendations, if possible, to upgrade my pc, I will be glad.

Bought my pc a year ago. After I searched for reasonably good gear for weeks I decided to get something that is between advanced and budget. I did not built it my self thogh.

I asked the company who put my pc together if I had enough memory and they said yes, XP only use about 3 Ghz and the other components will be enough for what I´m gonna use it for (pictures and processing pic´s).

I did not select components to play IL-2 or any other games that eats memory. But now I´m thinking of an upgrade. I dont want to over-clock or change motherboard. I chosed a motherboard that could be upgraded, I think. But I can think of maby upgrade my grafic board! When flying co-ops with you Dogs, my FPS is 61 at highest but drop down to under 30 sometimes  when a lot of clouds and heavy lanscapes and stuff like that.

Ok, how much more performance can I get from what I have below?

Motherboard: ASUS P5K S775 IP35 DDR2 SATA2 GBLAN 8-CH HD

PROCESSOR:  INTEL CORE 2 E6750 2.66GHZ 1333/4M S775

RAM: 2 DDR2 1GB PC2-6400 800MHZ (I dont know which type/label on chips)

CASE: MIDTOWER ARCTIC SILENTIUM T1

FAN: 1 FREEZER 7 PRO SOCKET 775 EXTREME SILENT

GRAFICS: EN 8600GTS 512MB SILENT/HTDP5 NVIDIA

WINDOWS PRO XP SP3

HD: SATA 320GB 3.5" 7200RPM

Anything else?

~S~ BG.

To upgrade grafics sounds to me like the first step to do. Not that expensive either. Can´t find the GTX or GTS versions, well only this one from XFX but with DDR3 chips: http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010198082.aspx

Can I use DDR3 memory grafics on a motherboard with DDR2 memorys? Or is it two different gear that doesnt has with each other to do?

When looking at ASUS 9800 the closest are GT-type: http://www.komplett.se/k/kl.aspx?bn=10488&mfr=ASUS  or http://www.dustinhome.se/lp_5301_312.aspx also with DDR3 memorys.

The latter has a lot of types and it is a bit confusing which one to choose.

When it comes to upgrade CPU I dont know. Is it tricky to do it my self? BIOS stuff to change etc.? The 8400 CPU has 3Ghz and I have 2,6Ghz, does it really make a big difference?

http://www.komplett.se/k/kl.aspx?bn=11204&mfr=INTEL

There are four slots on the motherboard. Two, black ones, that are occupied by the memory sticks. And two additional, yellow ones, each one prallell with te memory slots. Can I use the yellow ones for two more memory sticks?

I saw that my power package is 500W. Hope it is enogh?

You have a fairly easy upgrade patch Sweper. Just get yourself a e8400 or an e8500 CPU and add a Nvidia 9800GTX+ if you can find one. If not the 9800GTX or GTS would be good choices. Biggest bang for the your buck.

NCIX in Vancouver Canada has this on sale right now - it's the samecard I have, and it's very over-clockable.

For what it's worth I have pretty much the same system, E6750 2.66GHZ, 8600GTX.

The upgrade I'm considering is the E8500 chip and more RAM.

A video card probably won't give you much more FPS, but it will give you better quality in each frame that it does render.

Sweper really needs to benchmark his frame rates on the Black Death track and let us know what they are. He has a copy of fraps. Sweper, all you have to do is launch fraps, then start up the game, select the Black Death Track and run. At the 5 second mark, hit the f11 key and then at the 2 minute, 30 second mark, hit it again. Stop the track and tab to desktop. Got to search and enter fraps log. This will bring up your average fraps, minimum and maximum. Run it a couple of times and then post results here. Then we can tell what kind of gains you will get with the upgrade.

The short answer is no if it is only iL2 we are talking about. The upgrades we are recommending would give you maybe another 10 frames per sec; something you will not even notice. But you also play Lock On and that might have a greater impact on that game.

As Fireman says, there are a lot of people here getting a lot less out of their pc.

Sorry m8. Somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my feeble mind, I thought you also played Lock On. Must be the gent from Romania I am confusing you with.

I meant to ask you Sweper. Are those results from perfect or excellent?
