Here's a small bit of conversation:
June 1942, right before a bunch of B17 crews go head out for the UK, they get briefed...
A Major introduces himself, and announces that the crews will be leaving for England two weeks ahead of schedule. As in 06'00 the next day.
All the crews start to mumble in protest and/or disbelief...
And then Captain Murphy speaks up:
"Let's get one thing clear!
You boys got nothing to worry about, as long as you are listening to me...
I know what I am talking about. Fought for two and a half years in the first World War.
Captured twice, shot down 12 times.
Lost two toes, my knee, and my right fore arm."
The major interrupts him, and while looking at Murphy, saying:
"Thank you.
Addressing the crowd, he says:
"Captain Murphy will be lecturing you on defensive tactics."
