you might try saving the file to your desktop and then playing it. If that fails, it might be a codec problem.

If you're using head phones, and you can still hear the engine noise when you talk, it's definately a problem with your "recording device," like the guys said above. Problem is that where to change it can depend on what sound card you have and what version of Windows.
