  1. Disappointed no DCS pictures of balloons being taken out yet...
  2. ... The use of the player flyable C47 and Ju52 to use paratroops to capture ground
  3. Salute, Just starting to think ahead of what we might like to do once North Africa is finished. The 352nd guys are working on a Battle of Britain campaign using Syn_Vander generated missions that they have invited us to take part in. Thinking about a combined arms event, I have had an idea about using Stalingrad in the winter of 1942. Both sides made advances and thought a Winter map would be interesting. I was thinking that we would play the Russian side? Would we be ok with that? What do you think?
  4. Had an idea ref the spawn points. What about the spawn point in a town / capture point is only enabled when the NEXT town / capture is taken. If a town has two or more possible near by capture points then it gets a spawn point for each (the logic of working out to disable them when the forward capture point was lost would be just too much for me to work out. ) This way the spawn points would be reserves and units would move up to the "front".
  5. Thanks to @DD_Fenrir for spending some time with me last night and introducing the Shrike missile. Good fun despite possibly being the first person to be shot down by their own missile!
  6. Salute, Thought I would start a thread where we can record our thoughts and ideas of features to take into the next Campaign. Here are a few I have collected. Do you have any others? - Longer despawn and death time penalties to prevent units being "thrown away" to jump to positions - Move spawn points further away from the flag position to make defending more realistic. POSSIBLE SOLUTION:Spawn points only enabled when the NEXT capture point is taken (see post below) - Possible use of AI ground units to increase the sense of being in a battle. - Bridges, although an exciting concept of being tactical, they are proving to cause bottlenecks in game play. Need to review destroy / repair routines. - Option for airfields to be disabled set at a level that are not too easy to punish the owner but not too hard that they are unachievable for the attacker.
  7. Salute Deacon from the 352nd has suggested Sunday 19th Feb as the date for the next round. Please let me know if this is NOT suitable for you. Cheers Friar
  8. Salute, As I embark on getting to grips with the X56 and remembering what I have assigned to each of the switches on the throttle, I thought about having an overlay to write on to help me remember, also one that might be interchangeable for Tanks and Planes in GBS for example or different planes in DCS. I looked through the net and couldn't find anything (perhaps there is a reason ) so decided to make my own. Its not pretty, no "CAD" involved here, all measurements and rough cutting out (as you can tell!) but for a learning aid it will probably have a short life. If you choose to download it and print it, just remember to print "actual size and not "fit to page". Cheers DD_Friar X56 Template001.pdf
  9. Salute I was just going to have a go at mission building but using the Caucasus map and trying either "custom" and "cold war" periods, neither show the A-4 in the list of available planes? Any advice please? Friar Edit: Forget that - should have checked first - Remove "Historical Filter".....

    New Update?

Salute - Friday 13:32 and was just going in to build a little test mission on the editor and have this Should I update or is this to do with my "conversion" yesterday? EDIT just gone to the forum and I see that this is a new update, paint still wet it is so fresh out of the box so will update...
  11. Get this utility @Crash It was a breeze. All you do is install it to a new folder NOT the same one as your game. Point it at the game folder and the saved games folder. Click on Advanced options and select update to latest Open Beta version. Robert is now your fathers brother... You might also find its other features worthwhile as it can start up VR and stuff as well for you. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/134493-the-dcs-updater-gui-utility/#comment-134499
  12. Thanks to @fruitbat and the link to an excellent utility - I now have the Open Beta and have been able to connect to the server all ok.
  13. I have downloaded the file @DD_Fenrir but where do I put it please? EDIT: Forget that - quick Google and I now know what to do.
  14. Another example of Fenrir doing what Fenrir does. Hey, thats me in the brown and green plane next to Fruitbat, my first appearance in a DCS video!
  15. Another good session last night (Friday). Decided that going straight to having a go at carrier landings was taking on a bit too much as I don't think I had even landed on the runway! Have decided on a plan of action. 1. Practice landings on the runway getting to know the angle of attack. (First lesson learned last night, do not land with full tanks of fuel, makes you too heavy and breaks the under carriage). For take off and go around and land I changed to 30% which then made the plane lighter and also made landings possible. I ended the evening completing 4 or 5 successful touch downs, take off again and land in succession. No blowing stuff up, but still an interesting evening. 2. Practice landings on the runway and target getting it down on the white block lines at the end of the runway (thanks @fruitbat for that idea) 3. Then move to carrier landings. Have realised that I need to map trim better on my stick. I could feel myself pulling back on the stick all the way in to get the right angle (as instructed by @DD_Fenrir but to date ignored Sorry Teacher.)
  16. I have tried the calibration this morning without success. I have now also noticed another issue with the throttle. When I move the throttle one of the rotarys goes up and down as well. Its going back.
  17. @delta7 My laptop is old and besides I need it to work on the PC. After putting it back in the box and was preparing to send it back today I have been convinced by the guys last night to try the calibration process, so we will see what happens with that.
  18. @BluBear - dont think so. just tried it in a powered hub and got same issue. I also do not like the fact that it is jumping all over the place in the control panel at the start.
  19. So after ordering a new stick that never turned up I ordered another one. Arrived this afternoon. Started setting up and as soon as i installed the drivers and plug them in I get this..... https://youtu.be/RuqAfqFfBts
  20. Salute, So now I have another issue. My X52 (soon to be replaced so I am wondering if "it knows...") has stopped working in game. When I go into the key mappings and move the joy stick left and right the game sees it and assigns it. Same for the Throttle. However when I go in game, they do not work (no flaps or aileron movement, no stick movement in cockpit, no revs increase with throttle) The other buttons on the joystick I have mapped like close canopy and flaps do work, it seems to be just the two axis. I have checked that the game settings are set to joystick and not reverted for some warped reason back to mouse. I have checked the devices in the control panel and they all working as expected. Any ideas? regards Friar EDIT - RESOLVED - So I did what I think a few people were suggesting last night for the CH Peddles and deleted the devices.txt file. Everything seems to be working correctly now.
  21. Very interesting. Thanks for posting Fen.
  22. Thanks Delta. I have gone for CH Pedals and Logitech G X56. Eagerly awaiting the delivery.
