  1. Of course the tax adds 15% but I figured if my wife can ask for a $400 purse as a gift I should feel no guilt. Or rather a $150 purse with a $250 label. I never will understand victims of fashion. She needs a new anything when it's no longer in style. She has at least 20 wrist watches in a drawer. I still wear the same Wenger (swiss army) watch she bought me when we married - 30 years ago.
  2. Thanks for the posts here. As soon as I fired up BOS I figured it was time for a new card, running an Intel i7-2600k at 3.4 Ghz and a GTX 260 vid card now(says 896 Mb memory) and getting at best 40 FPS in BOS with lowest settings...... never less than 60 in IL2 46(usually over 100) Just ordered this at $329: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Video Card - 4GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0 (x16), 1x Dual-Link DVI-D, 1x Dual-Link DVI-I, 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, DirectX 11.1, SLI, Dual-Slot, ACX Cooler, (04G-P4-2768-KR)
  3. I must say I hate the head movement model here. I have much playing till I get this to work properly. Still managed to take off and smoke a pair of LaGG's. Expert is a bit more of a challenge keeping the bad guy in sight. Snacko's ROF guide is helping immensely.
  4. The thing has to weigh 10 or 12 tons. Imagine the power arresting the descent and accelerating up. He didn't give throttle till almost on the deck if the sound sync is correct in the vid Empty weight: 18,400 kg (40,600 lb) Loaded weight: 29,940 kg (66,010 lb) Powerplant: 2 × AL-31F afterburning turbofans Dry thrust: 74.5 kN (16,750 lbf) each Thrust with afterburner: 125.5 kN (28,214 lbf) each FB that chopper vid is amazing skill but dangerous enough. Much like I tell them at work when they say "you can't do that" "You mean you can't, much depends on the violinist".
  5. Possible? No afterburner? https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/7948768512/h17917D6C/
  6. Lost my Mom about 8 years ago, a tough time. It doesn't get better soon, but it does get better.
  7. I once had a lot of problems with the computer when gaming. Overheat, phantom reboots, video card wierdness. Multiple stress testing turned up nothing at a shop I frequented. Turns out my CH pedals had developed a short to the USB cable, made the motherboard do all sorts of strange things. As soon as I plugged them into a new (USB 2.0) board an error came up when I moved the pedals. Pile of $ that need not have been spent. I was so pissed I actually threw them in the trash. This may not seem unusual to some but I throw nothing away that I (or any future generation) may have the slightest use for. Now you have a more balanced report m8 : ) Apparently a popular mod for the Saitek is to remove the centering detent to smooth out small inputs.
  8. I have those as well, much prefer them over the CH ones.
  9. Some swear by the FFB but they're getting pretty old. My 52 started to die, I got a CH Fighterstick. No comparison to the 52. Very crisp. Joysticks are a side line for CH. They make precision industrial controllers.
  10. Hi there Eraser. Don't delete your 4.12 installation. You will always need a bone stock version installed in addition to another copy for any modded version for upgrading to a new patch. Rename the folder (IL2 4.12.1) or something similar. Then install everything again up to 4.11 in a new folder. Don't put it in program files but in the root folder of the C: drive, move the original install out of program files as well. When HSFX comes out for 4.12 you can delete the 4.11 install, make a copy of the stock 4.12 install and install HSFX there but always keep a clean copy of the current version somewhere.
  11. Those settings above are in both the render openGL and render directx sections of the config file. I assume you want to change them in the openGL section.
  12. There are controls for things in later versions of the game that aren't in an earlier ini file so check before you just replace the whole file.
  13. You know how fast you're going when you take off and just get in the air. This is landing speed. Add 20 - 30 k for the flare and you have approach speed. While flying level, raise the nose and slow down enough to drop flaps and gear. Now use elevator trim to get the plane flying at approach speed and dirty (flaps and gear) and no back pressure on the stick. Without touching the trim raise gear and flaps, add throttle to fly level. This is pattern speed. Landing: Like any airplane, once I get near the base I cut throttle and hold altitude while it slows down, roll in elevator trim to get it flying at pattern speed and 600m along the downwind leg. As soon as I turn base leg I reduce throttle, drop gear and flaps. The extra drag will automatically bring me down to approach speed and now you gently turn final. Got to be careful on bank angle here, you'll be sinking fast if you bank too much. You should hardy have to put any pressure on the stick. Resist temptation to pull back on the stick. Add a bit of throttle if you think you'll land short. I use takeoff flaps on landing most of the time, full flaps if it looks like I'll land long for the extra drag. Again, no pulling on the stick. Use rudder to pick up a low wing on final. Once you're at the runway and a few feet above, level off and hold there(flare). The plane will slow down by itself from approach speed to landing speed and then stop flying. To hold level you'll smoothly keep adding more and more back pressure on the stick as it slows, ideally you'll hit the stop(full back stick) just as the plane stops flying.
  14. Windows has an event viewer. Maybe that will help. Type it in the search box
  15. Looks like it's designed to keep you from reducing throttle below 25. It's smooth on the way up, the stop is on the way down. Air cooled engine, possibly to keep you from shock cooling it.
  16. OK by slider you mean something on your controller, not the in-game adjustments. I use a rotary dial for elevator trim but for rudder I use one of the hat switches on my joystick.
  17. Exactly. Trim is up in the top section of the controls but way down at the bottom in HOTAS is where you'll assign it to an axis. That screenshot above (if that's what you mean by " trim sliders") is accessed from the main screen, bottom right hand corner, entitled Hardware Setup and then hit the "Input" tab.
  18. Watch that damn mouse in Disney. He had my wallet empty before I could say "make a wish".
  19. To all the 357th and other volunteers. A few of us fly another SEOW timeslot every Sunday night at 9pm eastern, lineup 8:30. For the last year it's only been 4 or 5 of us. Very little ground war with our small numbers. Especially good for new SEOW pilots - no pressure. Currently Korea B29's F86's F9 Panthers vs Mig's PM or talk to me directly and I'll get you set up.
  20. What software are you using to program all this stuff? I just got a CH stick but would like to use the X52 throttle. I have Saitek rudders as well. Even better, use the X52 throttle and retain some of the buttons on the X52 stick, toggles, rotary switches and such but use the CH stick as the joystick.
  21. I tried those reduced settings for a long time thinking I could be more precise with my guns. The more I messed with them the more I was wandering when shooting. Might work with a better stick. Mine is getting tired and sloppy.
  22. Many fighters don't trim that well. In the game you can adjust that a bit in the hardware setup. Make sure you're in the "elevator trim" section (top left). This makes it more precise in the center area if the "symmetrical" button is on. Adjust to your liking and save the profile. You can play with rudder trim, prop pitch and throttle in the same way. I found it works best for me to leave the aileron, rudder and elevator at 100 across the board. I did have another profile just for the Spitfire to limit elevator travel to 70 - keeps you from inadvertently getting a high speed stall - dunno if they fixed that in 4.11 but it was bad in 4.10. Can't remember exactly how that was set up - the profile vanished in the new install.
  23. When you lead a flight can the rest keep up with you at your settings? I find nobody can use the same settings as the flight leader and keep up. Last plane in the flight is the worst, seems it never has the power of the leaders plane. If I take the #4 I'm almost at 100 just to keep up to his 80/80. I wonder how the lead planes from 2 different flights would compare? Seems like something fun to test.
  24. IL2 compare for HSFX 6 and expert mode
