I was short of time when I posted that. I wanted to add my impressions too.
First, this is primarily about US military aviation. Lots of technical and political aspects. I've read about everything on WW2 aviation I could find but learned things here I've never heard before. I always wondered why the US had no fighters to speak of at the start of WW2. Up until about 1936 they still figured massive fleets of well defensively armed bombers was going to be the way to wage war and explains why bombing technology in general (B-17, Norden bombsight) was so far ahead in development by 1941.
That idea died a quick death in Spain and left the US looking at the Bf-109, Spitfire and Hurricane and having nothing remotely of the same capability. Anyway, a great read.
