  1. Maybe have a look in the windows event viewer for some clues. Start button, type event viewer in the search bar. Either look in the Windows/system folder for all events or Custom Views/ administrative events for the juicy stuff. Apparently I'd been having the odd random crash for months before it came to my notice. Same "kernel power 41" event ID though
  2. This may only be a problem for folks with on board sound ie no separate sound card. In device manager look for "Sound, video and game controllers" and expand that. I show: High Definition Audio Device (I think this is my headset) NVIDIA High Definition Audio NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) Realtek High Definition Audio Right click on each NVIDIA entry and select disable. Then reboot. You can experiment, but I think the important thing is to have only one driver active. From the limited searching I've done the Realtek driver works best with on board sound. NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device may be needed for Shadow play sound or streaming.
  3. Suddenly I'm getting random reboots and crashes. Not blue screen, just shutting off. Event log shows "kernel power 41" system reboot without clean shut down. A few times it didn't even boot up again fully before the next crash. I'm thinking PSU or HD or motherboard failure. So I search a bit and find a post where the guy says he has the same issues and he has the answer. Nvidia installs sound drivers as well as video drivers when you do a regular update. I go to the control panel and sure enough there are the drivers for my on board sound plus 2 new Nvidia ones. I disabled the new ones and all is now good. Doesn't seem like that should have made such a fuss in the OS but 24 hrs now and it's still working.
  4. This accelerometer based system has got to be the future of head tracking but it doesn't look ready just yet. In the meantime, freetrack will get you the same functionality as TrackIR for $30 or $40 using a PS3 Eye Camera and the same basic construction/soldering skills. http://www.behance.net/gallery/Hacking-Sony-PS3-Eye-Camera/8955421
  5. Canadian joke: Quebec cop pulls over car "is that a beer I see there?" Driver "umm..shit .... oh hell I forgot it was there Sir" Cop "Can I have some?"
  6. True enough. It's to the point where everyone now has it written down and prominently displayed, defeating the purpose.
  7. I saw this somewhere else a few days ago. Laughed like hell, just like my workplace - really.............
  8. I bumbled along with the X52 till the stick began to give out(the flashing LED's). Bought a CH fighterstick and am using that with the X52 throttle(and stick too - extra buttons)
  9. My enter button would only work if that controller was #1 on the list but I ended up not using the software at all. If I want any extra strokes I use joytokey but I'm new with that bit of kit
  10. I spent a lot of time playing with the (uhhm crap) Saitek software. Try NOT loading the software. Then go into the game, select the box to fire the weapon and hit your stick button. Test to see if that works. Then quit the game, load the software, go back into game and see if it still works. I found most things worked better without the software. Just out of curiosity, is the controller you're trying to use as the Enter button the first in the "game controller" list in Windows?
  11. Now I'm inspired!! I'm going up to the cottage to check the snow load on the roof. I'll see what I can do for a few pics. Meanwhile, in Canada ...........
  12. You laugh but those of us eating a Paleo or Primal diet are eating salads just like that while loosing weight and feeling younger. OK - maybe a few more veggies in the mix but all the bacon, butter, cream, and pork you used to feel guilty about are on the plate. I've always struggled with the extra pounds, from 180lbs when I was 20 to 230lbs a few years back at 50. Over the last year on about a 50% Paleo diet I'm down to 190 again with virtually no effort and still going down slowly. My wife just started last month and is down almost 10lbs. The store bought bacconaise is off the list (probably made with soybean, canola or cottonseed oil) but you can make the real stuff with bacon fat - I shit you not. Anyone who thinks they have a cholesterol problem or is having their doctor try to kill them off with statin drugs(Lipitor, Crestor) really needs to watch this.
  13. We usually see -5 C temps as a daytime high this time of year, maybe up to zero on the odd day. Not bad if the sun shines and you're out of the wind. Certainly enough to keep the ice and snow and cleared off the sidewalks and driveways. For the last 2 months it's been -10 to -15 with night temps in the -20 range or colder. Too cold for salt to melt the ice. This sucks and I'm in the farthest South part of Canada Forecast Graphic forecast Fri 7 Feb 40% -12°C -18 Sat 8 Feb 30% -11°C -18°C Sun 9 Feb 40% -9°C -16°C Mon 10 Feb -9°C -15°C Tue 11 Feb -14°C -22°C Wed 12 Feb -7°C -17°C
  14. Even setting IL2 46 to DirectX doesn't work. Not a supported game I guess. It does make great quality vids with no system impact that I can notice.
  15. No not in this one but the SOB bunch can always be found on Skies of Valour, beating up on the inexperienced. We try to even the playing field.
  16. I notice he didn't post the one where he failed to notice Gothkrieger, Squawk and Perfesser come in higher than the top of his loop. We had at 3 of the SOB's , downed 2 and drove the other off.
  17. You can manually start/stop recording. Problem is, you press trigger once to start recording, second press it stops so you need a separate key to actually start the recording and keep it going. I use JoytoKey to program a key. Probably a better way is to use the Shadow Time function. If I understand it correctly (haven't tried yet) when you hit the key bound to "save shadow recording" it will save the previous segment of time before you hit the button up to 20 minutes. Whatever you have the shadow time clock set to. So you would bind a key to that and then after the kill or ground attack is complete you hit a key and it will save the previous few minutes of gameplay - much easier as I often forget or don't have time to start if surprised. Totally sucks I can't get it to work in IL2 46.
  18. I can't get Shadowplay to work in IL2. Works in CLoD and looks nice. Back to FRAPS I guess.
  19. OK cool. I had already downloaded the patches as per the first post. I guess the game updated when I stepped away during install.
  20. OK...... on the main screen I show version 1.11.20362. I has assumed since the last patch was 4 point something I needed an update.
  21. Hey Friar How did you update the game through steam?
  22. One more thing. This "joytokey" program. This would be the best way to make the gun trigger emulate a key press and begin recording? It works with the current version? Multiple controllers? I'm using a CH stick and Saitek throttle.
  23. Heh, there's another story......... I bought one just before the holidays. It was DOA. The great deal I got was eaten up shipping it back. OK thanks, I'll look into that when I get the card back and installed.
  24. Before I go figuring this out on my own I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas how to go about it. A few years back when computers had much less resources to spare and framerate was a problem I had FRAPS taking screenshots every 1/2 second by setting up a macro to my trigger switch to take about 5 seconds worth of shots every time the trigger was pulled. It made for poor quality but acceptable gun camera footage for it's day. Today our machines are much more powerful and should be able to produce better movies without affecting game performance. 1. Need an external program to record screen for 10 or 20 seconds that doesn't drag the game down - is there anything better than FRAPS? 2. What format is best from a system resource standpoint? Free FRAPS will only record a video in .avi and needs a lot of storage space. You often pull the trigger multiple times during the attack, don't want multiple videos being recorded either. Thoughts?
