xTbonex
HI Guys, Can i ask the IT Boffins in the club to take alook at this spec for me? Im looking into buying a new rig, as my son is now of age and he needs a pc for school and also some gaming no doubt., so I was going to donate my current rig to him, and upgrade myself in the process. Ive buit this spec with VR in mind, especially IL2, and also top end and CPU/GPU heavy games, such as Warhammer total war, etc... but i also need to do a lot of high end graphics, photo editing, and film editing work for my job. just want to know if its up to scratch to get decent FPS on IL2 specifically. Thanks in Advance. TBone. 2147891.pdf
Crash
I would go for an AMD processor but the rest of it should be fine. GPUs are still stupidly expensive but the 3070ti should be good for VR
1. DDz Quorum FoolTrottel Posted July 30, 2021 1. DDz Quorum Share Posted July 30, 2021 What Crash said: IL2 GBS is all about single core speed - if you can successfully overclock the hecK out of that I9, then it could maybe win over an AMD. (I have no idea how that motherboard and memory will handle overclocking) As for GPU: As you're already spending a lot of money, I'd say go for 3080ti. Think of the future, like how long will this pc last for you? (You may need a bigger case as well then ... oops ) 3070 might do for VR, but what if you decide to go to a newer VR set? Note on the complete system as quoted: RTX 3070ti appear to be specified as needing 750W Power supply - yours is 'only' 650W? (Also think future here, what if you want to add disks, or update GPU? Needs more POWER! I am not really current on all the latest hardware and performance - and I am just stating my opinion here. Idea is to have you think a bit more about what you are going to purchase - it's a big purchase, so me thinks you need to think hard about what it's going to be, and for how long it is to last for you, to have fun with - and as a tool to use for your job! No mention of a monitor, but I assume it's a very nice one
xTbonex
thanks guys, so the AMD tend to get better single core performance, thats something I didnt know. a 750W power supply cant do any harm and wont cost a lot more. so I will bump that up for sure. the GPUs at PC specialist they didnt actually list an RTX 3080Ti. it should hopefully be in budget though, so I may as well build it up to the best it can be, Id hope this will see me for another 10 years. and I will just update parts as and when needed.
xTbonex
I dont really know much about AMD chipsets, what would be a good comparable CPU to the i9? how many cores etc, they range from 6 to 16 core.... A quick google search says the Ryzen 5950 16x core scores best for single core performance.
Crash
prices for 3080 from ccl about £1700 and 3080 is about £1300 https://www.cclonline.com/category/430/PC-Components/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-Chipset-Graphics-Cards/ alsoa little bit cheaper https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/graphics-cards/nvidia/geforce-rtx-3080-ti?l=table4 at least they have them in stock!!!! 2. Administrators Jabo Posted July 30, 2021 2. Administrators Share Posted July 30, 2021 You'll probably find that they can't source the 3080ti reliably at the moment but a 3070 will have good residuals if you can get a 3080 further down the line. My only concern would be that H60 Hydro, given that it only has a single 120mm rad, I'm not sure how it will handle an 11900K especially if you plan to overclock it. Be careful, the 2018 version they are speccing here has been replaced in the last couple of years by an uprated h60 with a different rad design and better thermal characteristics It would likely be OK, but if the budget allows I'd probably be considering the H80i or H100i instead. Personally I don't like PCS, I've found their customer service to be extremely poor in the past and the parts they use for warranty repairs substandard. I know some of the guys here have used them and like them but I would steer well clear. You pays your money and you takes your choice I guess. xTbonex
Ive used PCS twice before and havent had any issue with them. but I will shop around for a few comparable quotes, I tend to use them to benchmark the price and specs tbh., because their quoting tools are quite good. I have built my own rigs in the past, so may do so when it comes to the crunch. as its a big cost saving and I can shop around for parts and get the cheapest prices., plus no build cost other than sweat, bad language and a weekend of my time to put it all together. I could add a bigger box to allow a couple of additional 120mm fans, I did have my concerns also about overheating. but tbh, i probably wouldnt overclock, firstly I dont know how, and secondly I dont know how. lol the difference in price between the RTX3080 Ti and the next level up, 12Gb is over £500 so thats going to put the 12Gb out of my price range. im already exceeding budget by £500, but thats an acceptable cost and I would take that on the chin. we are alrwady in 'lies to the missus' terrirtory. Wont be buying just yet anyway, as I still have furniture to buy, so it will depend on whats left over, but I have massively over budgetted for that anyway. so there should be a few shekyls left for a new rig. 3
T_O_A_D
Our biggest unspoken wonder's as Husbands Dang, I hope the wife doesn't sell my Hunting, Fishing, Equipment and PC parts for what I told her it cost after I'm dead. 😱
