That is a hell of a bit of flying.  The Lake district is no place to have to make an emergency landing. Very, very few large, level fields and plenty of dry stone walls.

He's pretty fortunate he wasn't further south and west when the engine problems occured. He's toward the northern end ot the Lake District there (could see Skiddaw and Blencathra in the early minutes) so to the north and east the land flattens out, but finding a big enough field and gettng into it was still a great piece of flying.

the swing he had just before he hit the ground was scary  :startle:  

 

if i did not know better from the title, i'd be sure he's clipped the wing and died.

What amazes me is the absolutely calm demeanor of the pilot. I suspect that saved him in equal parts with skill and luck. I get a kick out of how he throws down the helmet and starts walking around. I bet he had a shitload of adrenaline to burn off.
