  1. What time were you thinking of Freelancer? I can send up a smoke signal and summon up a crowd. Plus I can host tonight.
  2. I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day. He's a lumberjack and he's OK, He sleeps all night and works all day. I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavatory. On Wednesdays I go shopping, And have buttered scones for tea. I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day. He's a lumberjack and he's OK, He sleeps all night and works all day. 3. I took a look at that training film. Can't believe how complicated flying a Corsair was or how unstable they were in a stall. Were all fighter ac the same or similar? I always thought they just zoomed up to altitude.
  4. Downloadable. That raises all kind of interesting possibilities.
  5. Congratulations m8. You will do just fine. Don't forget that the Basic course is designed for people who have just bought the game so they don't expect too much from you at the beginning. And you will probably get Quazi as an instructor! You, Pooka and I and anyone else who wants to join can do some pre-training for the school which will make you look like heros. If you don't have one, pick up one of those little digital stop clocks that can sit on your desk on front of you. Nothing fancy; just a start, stop, reset jobby. You will need it for night mission you have to fly. What aircraft did you selct to fly after Basic F S?
  6. Time you posted your dxdiag and let us take a look. Rog and Dave will cure your rash in no time.
  7. I mess around with the classic missions all the time Glenn. I agree with you that it brings a freshness to some of the oldie goldies.
  8. And I always pictured you as a slim, wimpy looking guy.
  9. Joint Ops is an online virtual pilot school run by an ex-marine pilot trainer who goes by the handle Fifties. They have their own website with training rooms and notice boards and instruction is provided free of charge. All the instructors are unpaid volunteers. http://www.angelfire.com/in4/joint_operations/ There are various levels attached to Joint Ops. You first have to do Basic Flight School. As Pooka says it is 3 nights a week for two weeks. Some nights will take as many as 4 hours and there are written tests. Not only do you have to devote 3 nights a week but you will have studying, preparation and practise to squeeze in between. That can amount to another 3 nights a week. It is really quite intensive and requires dedication. But between you and I and all the other people who read this thread, it is almost impossible to fail Basic Flight School. If you can't get it right they will keep on giving you private instruction until you can do it. Once you finish Basic Flight School you have to do one 3 hour session called Ground School. Ground School is another prerequisite to moving on to Intermediate Pilots School. IPS is a lot easier than Basic Flight School and once again, it is really hard not to pass. I believe it took three, two hour sessions to complete with classroom and flying. After that you can specialize in a specific aircraft and get ratings for different aspects of flying it. (Dead stick landings, loops under bridges gear up landings where you have to stay on the concrete and not touch the grass. I chose a Spitfire, Quazi went with a P38. They have periodic war games where the instructors and guys like myself all fly head to head Axis versus Allied. You get ratings for taking part and other awards for performance. If that's not enough and you still have the energy then you can move up to Advanced Training, Fighters, Bombers whatever. It is only at the Advanced Level you can readily wash out. Quazi wants to do Advanced but I am not so sure I want to take it that far. Based on your comments about other time commitments, I think you would problem finding time to do Basic Flight School Von Tonar sir. Too bad, it is well worth it.
  10. This was just the kind of info I needed lads. Many thanks.
  11. I have been thinking about getting a scanner. I know nothing about them. What should I be looking for? I just want to scan some old photographs. Mostly black and white.
  12. Sharp as a tack Von Tonar.
  13. I bought it when it first came out and flew it with some of the other Danger Dogz, Bun-Bun, duffbear and gurypuddle. It was fun at first ; particularly the A10 Warthog but I started to get very bored. Launching missiles at targets far away didn't involve close in dogfighting. A very complicated game and takes a while to get a handle on everything. Stuff like air-to-air refuelling. Takes a lot more resources to run than iL2 and you will likely have to run your settings minimized.
  14. You are not wasting your time! Back in the early seventies when I was flying a lot in light aircraft, I worked at an Advertising Agency. One of the guys in our Creative Art Department made me up a compass with an arrow arrangement fixed with a pin and which rotated around the compass. I used it when approaching an airport since it gave me a visual on everything I needed to know. For example, I could dial in my present heading and could see where I was in relation to the active runway. It also gave me the reciprocal for the runway (down wind leg) and the other two 90 degree headings for crosswind and base legs. After I got it, I never flew without it. Despite what jensenpoon and Arse say about me, I am more than just a pretty face.
  15. No cockpit view. Ctrl F1 Don't do it m8. You will go blind and your right elbow will hurt.
  16. . . Painless and BG in formation
  17. I surrender, unconditionally! Just used the wife's credit card to buy a copy of version 10 off ebay. Retail bandits up here want 3 times the price of ebay. I am going to reformat now twice a week whether I need to or not. Long live the Quazi man!
  18. That Aresnal is a real animal eh? I hear he has to climb a tree just to take a pee.
  19. I see there are all kind of different versions of Norton Ghost version 9 ,10, etc. etc. Prices seems to be all over the place. Any advice or should I just use a hack copy?
  20. I think I am finally beginning to get it! If I understand it correctly, if I want to do a reformat, I run Norton first and back up all programmes and other stuff, then reformat. After that is done, I can selectively copy "stuff" back in, all in a few minutes. Right?
  21. I have amended my post and suggest others do likewise.
  22. It seems my library does have a couple of Alan Furst books so I will give him a whirl. Thanks Dubbo.
