For what it’s worth FT, I’m running all my (USB 2) controllers through a powered USB 3 hub plugged into a USB 3 socket on the mobo and it’s been pretty much trouble free since. Gigabyte boards are generally good. My i5 2500K (so first-gen) is still solid after several years slightly overclocked even after many, many mods to my rig (including a move to liquid-cooled a couple of years ago). Sounds like you're on the right track though m8.
