BluBear Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 If you can spot what is bothering me, please can someone explain? Quote
DD_Bongodriver Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Yeah, something is very screwy about those gun ports, I thought there should only be one of them and it should be where the newer grey part is, which leaves the weathered original gun port a bit of a mystery. Quote
DD_Arthur Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I'm pretty sure thats the gun camera port. It would most likely have one of these fitted; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Robot-IIa-camera-with-Schneider-Tele-Xenar-3-8-7-5cm-lens-/281697868286?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item41968059fe Quote
2. Administrators Jabo Posted May 24, 2015 2. Administrators Posted May 24, 2015 Following a discussion on TS last night, it appears that it's a blast tube for the cannon usually protected by a canvas patch which is ripped off when the gun fires (bit like the covers over the guns on spits and hurries) - The restored wing on the other side of the aircraft has the patch over the inboard hole. 1 Quote
Kira Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Canopy say's it's an early E model. E-3 most likely? I don't know enough about 109s to find any other obvious indicators elsewhere from that picture. Anyone have specifics to narrow down the model? Quote
DD_Arthur Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 It's Duxford's E3; crash landed in a field in Sussex, September 1940. Quote
