OK cool. I had already downloaded the patches as per the first post. I guess the game updated when I stepped away during install.

OK...... on the main screen I show version 1.11.20362. I has assumed since the last patch was 4 point something I needed an update.

Hey Friar How did you update the game through steam?

One more thing. This "joytokey" program. This would be the best way to make the gun trigger emulate a key press and begin recording? It works with the current version? Multiple controllers? I'm using a CH stick and Saitek throttle.

Heh, there's another story......... I bought one just before the holidays. It was DOA. The great deal I got was eaten up shipping it back. OK thanks, I'll look into that when I get the card back and installed.

Before I go figuring this out on my own I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas how to go about it. A few years back when computers had much less resources to spare and framerate was a problem I had FRAPS taking screenshots every 1/2 second by setting up a macro to my trigger switch to take about 5 seconds worth of shots every time the trigger was pulled. It made for poor quality but acceptable gun camera footage for it's day. Today our machines are much more powerful and should be able to produce better movies without affecting game performance. 1. Need an external program to record screen for 10 or 20 seconds that doesn't drag the game down - is there anything better than FRAPS? 2. What format is best from a system resource standpoint? Free FRAPS will only record a video in .avi and needs a lot of storage space. You often pull the trigger multiple times during the attack, don't want multiple videos being recorded either. Thoughts?

Just tested offline. They start OK but freeze when I try to exit. Rename it is.

If your online campaigns are in russian text remove the _ru files in the NGEN folder. Also look at MessagesRu in the Ngen and Dgen if something isn't right like Russian in game text or something. If the game is looking for something it may default to a RU file for text or wave file. Get rid of it (or rename wave files - english, australian, american,etc. language renamed with _ru extension- to get what you want) I just fixed my online campaigns- all campaign names were russian text

Is it all the stuff in the Dgen folder? Create a new folder on your desktop. Try moving everything in the Dgen folder that ends in "_ru" to the other folder for now. If all works fine then you can delete them for good.

you can go into the campaign files and remove everything with a .ru extension

Look in mission difficulty settings tab in-game. "Enable speedbar"

I'll give you some of mine based on a few years of experience. Throttle: Hat switch: supercharger switch- l/r, airbrake -up/down Large rotary: elevator trim, center WEP Slider: prop pitch button: map and transmit to CC small rotary: mixture, center button TS transmit(by using the mode rotary on the joystick you can make this 3 different transmit keys) Joystick: I changed to a CH stick and moved the functions there but I'll try to remember. Use the 2-stage trigger, stage 1 guns, stage 2 cannon. hat1: L/R :nav lights, landing light, UP/DN: radiator hat2: L/R: rudder trim, UP/DN: flaps Toggles: 1. Tail lock, landing gear- use pinky+gear toggle for manual gear( set up a macro to simulate 40 presses of the gear up key) 2. Jettison stores, gun pod toggle 3. drawing a blank here......

Of course the tax adds 15% but I figured if my wife can ask for a $400 purse as a gift I should feel no guilt. Or rather a $150 purse with a $250 label. I never will understand victims of fashion. I must say I hate the head movement model here. I have much playing till I get this to work properly. Still managed to take off and smoke a pair of LaGG's. Expert is a bit more of a challenge keeping the bad guy in sight. Snacko's ROF guide is helping immensely.

I once had a lot of problems with the computer when gaming. Overheat, phantom reboots, video card wierdness. Multiple stress testing turned up nothing at a shop I frequented. Turns out my CH pedals had developed a short to the USB cable, made the motherboard do all sorts of strange things. As soon as I plugged them into a new (USB 2.0) board an error came up when I moved the pedals. Pile of $ that need not have been spent. I was so pissed I actually threw them in the trash. This may not seem unusual to some but I throw nothing away that I (or any future generation) may have the slightest use for. Now you have a more balanced report m8 : ) Apparently a popular mod for the Saitek is to remove the centering detent to smooth out small inputs.

I have those as well, much prefer them over the CH ones.

Some swear by the FFB but they're getting pretty old. My 52 started to die, I got a CH Fighterstick. No comparison to the 52. Very crisp. Joysticks are a side line for CH. They make precision industrial controllers.

Hi there Eraser. Don't delete your 4.12 installation. You will always need a bone stock version installed in addition to another copy for any modded version for upgrading to a new patch. Rename the folder (IL2 4.12.1) or something similar. Then install everything again up to 4.11 in a new folder. Don't put it in program files but in the root folder of the C: drive, move the original install out of program files as well. When HSFX comes out for 4.12 you can delete the 4.11 install, make a copy of the stock 4.12 install and install HSFX there but always keep a clean copy of the current version somewhere.

Those settings above are in both the render openGL and render directx sections of the config file. I assume you want to change them in the openGL section.

There are controls for things in later versions of the game that aren't in an earlier ini file so check before you just replace the whole file.
