About That Bomb-Delay ... I May Have Found The Reason
FoolTrottel replied to FoolTrottel's topic in Jim's Place
Read this thread on the subject please. -
Ever since we've been using 4.11.1m / HSFX6 with its new bomb fusing, we've seen several weird issues when on low level bombing runs, like bombs not exploding at all, or exploding too early. Weird visual stuff, like 'I did not see your bombs drop' or .... and so on. Some extensive testing by Sweper and me has shown that most of these weird issues are explainable, and -which is more important- preventable. Conclusions: A. Long Delay fuse setting is not perfect: For example, setting it to 4 seconds will set it for 4x500lbs bombs , but not for the 1000lbs bomb when that is used as a combined load. The 1000lbs will have a minimum drop alt of 193m, and will explode on impact (0.24s). B. Default fuse settings are now directly related to aircraft type / load out combination: They will be reset to a default when the next mission is loaded! You can no longer assume it is set at your favorite value, ie. it no longer works the same way as your weapon convergence settings or your Rocket Delay setting! C. BombBayDoors mod works, but causes (visual) issues if not used by the host and all clients in the same way. If one with non-automatic doors pushes the bomb drop button while his doors are still closed, he will not drop a bomb, but a client with automatic doors will see a bomb being dropped, hit, and explode. Suggestions (In order of importance / relevance) 1- Do not use 'Long delay' bomb fuse setting. 2- As fuse timing is now related to the type of load-out, make sure you check and verify your delay settings for each and every mission. For instance, the default timing for 4x500lb in a Mosquito VI, is 1 second. Yes, one second, and that can get you killed! 3- Best we all use the same delay settings and load out on a bomb run, and coordinate the attack, so we will not get surprised by sudden and unexpected explosions and blasts... 4- Bombaydoors=0 should be added to the [mods] section of your conf.ini, so we all are using the same setting. This setting is the default of 4.11.1m, so in fact we are disabling this mod in HSFX6. For immersion purposes you are allowed to press a dummy button, and call out 'Bomb bay doors open' on comms ;-)

May have come across the reason why one would appear to be blown to bits by ones own bombs, while one certainly has set a long delay... Look here: This is in a B25J-1NA, 1944, 4x500lbs 1x1000lbs loadout. Long Delay, 5 seconds. Yes, Long Delay, 5 seconds. Look at the timings for the 1000lbs-er, what do you think will happen when you drop it? When will it go ' BOOM ' ? And, it will be the first one dropped. Guaranteed short mission, yes. Scary, aint it? Good news is, it's the same for 4.11.1m stock, and HSFX 6.0.16. Have tried A20G, with 1000lbs 2x500lbs, and there too, the delay does not get set for the 1000lbs-er. Have not seen it happen when using Low Level delay. So, this may not be a bug at all, it's just to prevent us from being so silly to be trying to try and drop such a heavy load from that low a level. Then again, Long Delay is only available when the 1000lbs-er is being used. Why would it be if it does not work ie. does not account the setting for that bomb? Could it still be intentional? I dunno, and I'm pretty tired and fed up with testing this. Oh, while testing, found a true bug, but it's in its form not relevant for us, though it does show the bomb fuzing code is not at all error-free : HSFX, Expert mode. (Does not occur in 4.11.1m) Load a dogfight map, set Bomb Fuzes diff. to Off. Get into the B25J-1NA-1944 (haven't tested others), take load out 4x500lbs, 1x1000lbs. Set delay at 5 seconds. Press Apply, back to brief Press Arming, look at delay: 5 sec. Press Apply, back to brief Press Arming, look at delay: 0 sec. !!!! But, this is with fuzes off, and we're not using that one, that way... so, not relevant. (I had hoped by going back to the no-fuzes difficulty, we may revent running into this suicide bomb timing, but when there's this kind of an error in it... never mind) Effin mods... effin' game... to bad there is no other... Yeah, I know, should post this up at 242, but ... my registration confirmation there still hasn't materialised.

For 1/48th me thinks the instrument panel looks very good... or is it the photo ? Torps are good, they go 'BOOM' !

Hey Parts, Is the computer you posted this with the same computer as where the game runs? As currently, I have a different IP address for your gaming pc. The IP address is needed for registration and the use of ChkMods, which might come in handy when mr. P. will be attempting to install the game...
-
Sure, no worries, that's normal on a wide screen monitor....

-
Thanks!

Hm, with UAC on, same thing, no problem over here...

Nick, I've seen that use of the Desktop folder... and I've tried that on my system, to put both ChkMods and the game (vanilla 4.10.1m) in folders on the Desktop, then run ChkMods: No problem at all... so, not the cause of the issue here. And, I'm with Snacko now, somehow ChkMods has an issue on your system that cannot be solved quickly, so better go the traditional route now! (@Snacko, the traditional route may be 'better' as it is ....well... the traditional route... using ChkMods -if it works- is much less a hassle... it's does stuff automatically .. .. ) @Barnaby: Although probably not the cause of the issue with chkmods, in the long run it's better and easier to move the folder ... Hold on, I was testing this with UAC off... oopsie... will do some more testing...

Some of your security software might be blocking stuff... hard to tell. I can fully understand if you're not comfortable switching them off, and indeed, leave them Log files may show that files are being blocked, but what I do not understand is that chkmods can and will download some files (autoupdate) but cannot download the game files... oh Well,..,. You'll have to take the other route now, downloading the HSFX set and its patches. It's doable... Sorry this thing does not work for you... I'll make a note of the issue, maybe one day we can find the cause, and a fix! Good Luck!

Well, the error 14 is an overload on the number of error messages it can handle ...lol The source of the other error (that causes error 14 in the end) is unclear to me... Somehow, your system won't let ChkMods download the games files... But, the weird thing is, for ChkMods to run properly, it needs to download files as well.. and as it appears to be running properly (it does recognize the correct number of missing files expected to bring a vanilla install up to HSFX6.)... it can download files just fine... Stumped, for the moment. I've tried it on my system, with the game in a folder on the desktop - like you have - and it appears to be running correctly here. Besides AVG virusscanner, are you running any other software to protect your system?
-
You can run the 'renexe', it is a command procedure, will delete the old chkmods.exe, and rename chkmodsnew.exe to chkmods.exe, and then start chkmods. What I'm really interested in, is a screenshot of the situation when the error occurs...
-
Should that error happen again, could you grab a screenshot, and add it to a reply in here? I'm very curious why it happens... it should not, ya know...
-
Hm, autoupdate failed by the looks of it... Delete Chkmods.exe, and rename Chkmodsnew to Chkmods.exe, then run that one.
-
Like the idea.
-
You should copy it. The one in Program files can then be your backup...

If you want to try and go directly towards HSFX 6.0.15, then you may want to try 'CheckMods'. It's a utility exclusive to us DD's. It will check your current installation, and will download missing or incorrect files, so you will end up with our current standard. Best is to keep your current version, and make a copy of it to a folder named 1946HSFX or similar. Download check mods from here: Link Create a separate folder for it, and unzip the contents to that folder. RightClick Chkmods.exe, and select 'Run as Administrator' (only need to do that once) Let it search for your IL2 install, and select the correct one. Press 'Verify Mods', let it run (will take a while) After it's done checking, press 'Fix issues', that will take even longer. After its first run, exit ChkMods, and start it again. Repeat the 'Verify Mods' - 'Fix issues' until 'Verify Mods' stops finding issues. Note: It will overwrite your current conf.ini and User folders, so after ChkMods is done, copy them over from your initial installation. May look like a lot of work... but it still is easier than installing the vanilla up to 4.11m, and then add the modset. Also, if you let ChkMods run on a copy, you will not lose anything in case it goes all wrong except some time ... (well, it won't go wrong) If you want to go the classic route: Here's a link to the MegaPatch which will bring your installation up to 4.10.m. Then download and install 4.11m patch, and next 4.11.1m Next, check whether it runs. Then make either a backup copy of it, and a copy to a folder where you will apply the mods. (It's always smart to keep a copy of the vanilla version, just in case...) Download the HSFX6 package: All parts on this page and install them, next the patches on page 1, and the HSFX Autoupdater. Hm. That's a lot... I'll be on TS later, but by the looks of it, I'll be gone by the time you get there... Good Luck!
