Flares are pretty handy for getting location of friendlies. No server issues. Finally got the skins downloaded after half a dozen failed attempts. Great format for the mission - especially if we can pick up where we left off next session. Took the town, consolidate, resupply, fresh assault next day.

PWCG P-38 Lightning Strikes Co-op Campaign

I believe many of our sluggish handling losses like stalls and striking terrain on pullout are caused by simply having too much fuel on board. Full fuel is 1575L (416 usg) at a weight of 2,579 pounds. As seen below in the quote that is fuel for a 600nm radius of action or 1111km. Our last mission was (by my guestimate) the longest mission we've flown to date. Range to target area was almost 200k, return is another 200 for about 400km (240nm) round trip. Yet we carry fuel for over 1200KM ... 3 times the fuel we actually need... You would of course take more fuel for combat but if you added another 200KM range of fuel that still comes to 1200 pounds of extra fuel we were dragging around(picture a whale with wings).... again, this was our longest mission yet. I'm not just throwing numbers out there, one pilot actually did fly our longest mission ever beginning with only 50% fuel and still returned safely to base. And note below we can really stretch our range by reducing prop rpm to 1600 and auto-lean (33 mix). Of course the old argument ... "what if you're leaking fuel"? We haven't lost any pilots from a fuel leak, friendly bases are usually close by and our lines aren't that far away for a worst case bailout. We lost many that couldn't pull up in time. The standard calculation I would have used is to figure the range(one grid square = 10km) and for cruise use 1 liter per km for each engine. Using our last mission as an example, 200km each way is 400 x 2 engines=800 liters. I add 50% as a buffer/combat power reserve, another 400 for a total of 1200 liters or about 75% fuel, again for our longest mission yet. Yet we always take off with 100 fuel for much shorter hops dragging around 600 to 1200 lbs of unnecessary weight. If we aren't going to reduce our fuel load now lets at least start looking at how much fuel we're bringing back to base every time. With a light load the 38 is a remarkably agile fighter. It wouldn't matter if the plane just handles poorly but it's killing our pilots. -

402 had an initial engagement with 4 109's, I shot at one and he dove through the clouds smoking, did not follow. Another group of FW's was spotted and I followed White 1 in a number of diving attacks and got a few shots in, one a good burst near the pilot. Resumed patrol and then came the end of my day. Too bad there was so much lag just when it mattered. -

I recommend joining the TS briefly the day before when you get up. We'll be there in a tank session and you can check the Dogz time versus your own to be sure. -

Footage of at least 2 stupid mistakes strung together to result in the end of a pilot. Overconfidence and target fixation. This is also the first time I had experienced the new blackout model and didn't learn from the first one. Then I insisted on staying behind the bad guy and shooting when I knew I was pushing too hard. New recruit Karl Spartan reporting. https://youtu.be/2Stq6kb3qOI -
Still having trouble getting the 20 skin file. Downloads about halfway and leaves a part file on desktop. Any chance of splitting the regular skins into 2 files? 1 to 10 and 11 to 20?

Dogfight servers recomendations

Hell, I can never ID a plane until I'm ready to shoot and check the crosses or roundels on the wings. Turn off the icons and you will improve quickly. Your brain gets lazy with icons on all the time. Try Unprofessionals server or Tuttavola (?)Both have AI. Finnish will show where the action is by the icons on the map, almost always near ground targets. Watch the AAA or A to A gunfire to pick out the enemy. -
I'll be 11 please

One of my go to servers. Love to get a dozen Dogz in there for some combined arms action.

This thread on IL2 forums. Page 1 has a couple missions, page 2 tips for adding tanks into missions. The server is a great one to join for some action(or grab the mission to use with Dogz icons). Capture the next flag along a line and your spawn points move up all the while fending off waves of enemy tanks while an air battle rages (sometimes being bombed by them). https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/63972-new-combined-arms-pvp-gamemode-advance-and-secure/

After being damaged in the engagement on ingress we dropped bombs and Zukker and I headed home and stumbled on to this. Curious the 88's were not returning fire but initially I was setting up each pass from their high 6 and breaking off at a safe distance. As for the circling bombers PW has found the cause and is on it as of Oct 24. https://youtu.be/ITLXaStkyWU After this I took another couple leisurely passes on the 88's before spotting 3 FW 190's climbing up through the clouds and I turned into them calling for help. Then a fourth showed up. I got good hits on one and he went away smoking. The next ? minutes were spent in some of the most intense action I've seen yet. On the edge of a stall most of the time- refusing to give up altitude, so low on ammo I only shot when it was a sure hit. Rescue arrived and they cleaned up the opposition. Unfortunately by the time I remembered to hit record again(shadowplay 5 min record) on the way home I had missed all the good action...... just caught the end. https://youtu.be/avxGa_E5m-Q -
I wish..... it's a bit of a monstrosity though.. maybe better suited to a sim pit. I'm still using the X52 throttle (and stick as buttons)

My new stick came!! The band is playing and a parade and ...... it's too tall to use on the desktop .. (music fades....) Something must be done! Should be about 2" lower, the desktop is an inch thick but my knee is almost underneath it already. Need a dish to mount the thing. Enter the pickup truck coil spring seat. Cut out the center and a few other places, add some holes and we have a mount. Cut a hole in the desk, put a few screws in and success!!! Learning to fly all over again.....

Looking for the last few missing skins. Just got the one from BluBear but I'm sure there are a couple I'm missing(T-bone..). Don't see them in the skins section, I guess posting them in the thread doesn't do the best job of of keeping everyone up to date. -
VKB Gladiator is supposed to be the best entry level stick these days. The x52 stick isn't the best but does have a throttle as well that can be used with a later stick purchase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByJtWxEDPPw I used a x52 for a few years, now a CH stick(good and solid but low res sensors) and changing soon to a Winwing Super Libra

Perf is going to miss this mission In theory you could clear cache and cold boot ahead of time. Join server, select plane. Flight leader says air-ground or air-air loadout in chat. (100 gas 6x500 lb extra ammo) Touch nothing while loading - wait. Spawn in. Leader types start engine in chat. He can idle at the start point for a long time by just pulling ahead a bit and ultimately either take off and catch up or finish mission and at least get an abort under his belt. -
Searching question of the day.

I don't generally shoot in a high deflection situation unless he's very close. If the gyro pipper is not visible in the gunsight I generally don't shoot at all - pulling too much G and your rounds won't be concentrated. This is the theory: Fix the range problem first with lead pursuit and after that fix the aspect (angle off his tail) with lag pursuit. Get the gunsight steady on an important part of his airplane (engine/cockpit) with near zero deflection. SHOOT! In practice what usually happens is: while I'm maneuvering into position for where the bad guy is gonna be someone else gets in right behind the bad guy and tries to stay with him in a tight turn spraying all his ammo 100 yards short, then claims I'm cutting in on his kill but I digress.... -
