Thanks chaps, Yes, I'm aware of the potential limitations of the stock antenna and I have already ordered one which is supposed to be 'tuned' for airband reception so that may improve matters. The frequency range covers the full civilian band but not the military - that's OK too for the time being at least. Perhaps I'll take a run up to Birmingham tomorrow - see how I get on.

...by way of a change. So I got a handheld radio scanner for Christmas and I'm blowed if I can understand how to work it - I'm within 5-10 miles of two airports (one municipal and one international) and I can't pick up any transmissions from them (or for that matter anywhere else). Does anyone out there have experience using one of these things? I've one or two questions I need to ask. Cheers Jabo

Whoa, whoa, whoa! - has the operative completed the mandatory Health and Safety Manual Handling course (Appendix B, subsection 2.1, paragraph 3)? I don't see any evidence of gloves or goggles in use here (paragraph 5.2, subsection 12). Or Hi-vis jackets.

Good call Slicker - as a rule of thumb, people usually overestimate what is required (which in fairness is safe enough, just more expensive) my 650W PSU on my rig does the job fine.

Just ignore FT's helpful 'advice', particularly with regard to icon settings, and you should be fine.

You would likely need to upgrade first TOAD - the key is then built (inside the software) based on the hardware in the machine. You can then subsequently re-install windows from the ISO, skip the key entry and it automatically activates itself once you reconnect to the web. The jury is still out on what happens if you change the hardware in the machine and reinstall, as some people have had to get a replacement key from MS support whereas I changed my boot HDD and didn't need to.
