  1. ### UPDATE ### I've been informed that I'm busy on Saturday, but Sunday is a distinct possibility
  2. Sunday could be a goer though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'll check with the social events organiser - I have a feeling I'm required on the Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Problem is, GK, that the Shoreham crash affected people who just happened to be passing the site and weren't visiting the show. This was seized on by the anti-air show lobby (a sizeable group of (mostly) outraged residents who have chosen to live close to an active airfield and then complain about noise and traffic etc) and the health & safety lobby to force the CAA into a knee-jerk reaction. I wonder how pleased they'll be when their local airfield closes and the land sold off to developers for house-building? This is not to diminish the awfulness of the Shoreham accident, but any time there's an incident it's another opportunity for the people who don't want air shows in their backyard to stir up the whole, "ooo it's so dangerous and therefore we must ban them". Naturally the pro-air show lobby don't get a look in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Still don't have the money either...
  6. I'd be very unhappy if an update changed that setting. Mind you I already have the regional language pack installed (possibly because I'm using win 10 pro? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Does that turn of fast start too FT? I'm sure there were two things I disabled via power options? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. starting rebuild mates £1300 pcs laptop after repair - customer service? what joke

  9. I could, but I don't feel that there's really a lot of point. The i5 gives me excellent performance as it is and going from 3.5 to 4.5GHz won't generate much (if anything) in terms of FPS but will generate a lot more heat and noise - both of which I'm trying to reduce as far as possible so - no, I'm going to take comfort from knowing that my CPU is at room temperature (ish) and is much happier because of it.
  10. So to the final part of my tale... Here's a couple of photos of dogish ingenuity...That worked surprisingly well! The replacement kit Found that the cutout on the back of the case was not large enough for me to fit the backplate so out came all of the innards and the mobo. New backplate for liquid cooler Fitting the risers Mobo, GPU and memory refitted then the heat exchanger and fans followed by the cooling block And the results of all this effort? On average 10 degrees cooler when idling - now is 34degC average and 15+ degrees cooler under load - can't get it over 60degC under any circumstances (TJmax is 98degC for the i5-2500K). A happy Jabo!
  11. Amazing - apparently he ejected from the stricken Spitfire...
  12. Probably a Woodcrest... 13. Hi Kev, no, unfortunately not.
  14. Gone for a corsair h75 - it'll be here tomorrow. In the meantime I've jury-rigged a cooler so I can use the rig. I'll post some pics before I swap it out. It's all a bit Heath Robinson right now. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Haha, I really hadn't thought that when I wrote the post - trust you chaps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Hopefully any fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series will like this little case mod. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. That would be something to see! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Ah well, I think you might have rather more problems than just the engines then matey. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I'm possibly off to hell. I was footling around on the PC tonight when I realised my right leg was getting unusually warm and there was that distinct smell of hot electronics. Further investigation indicated a faulty cpu fan and after some slightly panicky checking of my temps records I realised that fortunately nothing had got too hot, just a bit hotter than usual. Sooo... PC is in bits (again), old cooler removed, bracket for cooler removed, case fan removed, cleaned and refitted in new location, cpu removed, cleaned and refitted. So now I'm just waiting for my snazzy new liquid cooling kit to arrive from ebuyer - it'll be here tomorrow and I shall keep you informed. Bye bye veedub, hello merlin! 20. Which Jumo? A 262 engine (if that's what you're thinking) has already been built using modern techniques and materials and is undergoing tests in the US. Early indications are positive. Getting it certified is another matter entirely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Yep, it would, but the herc is a simpler (it's relative!) engine than, say, a Napier Sabre and Kermit's having one of those made so it's a matter of finding the right company prepared to do it at the right price! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Yeah the mk2 beau had merlins and I asked about that possibility during my hangar tour last year. TFC's view is that their example is not a mark2 so it needs round engines. We also talked about the possibility of modifying the engine plumbing to allow them to use late model herc engines of which there are lots still about but that was rejected too as being not in keeping with the original design. The long and the short of it is that they are prepared to wait to see if a pair (three actually) of engines can be found and if they exhaust all possibilities then they'd rather have new engines built from scratch using the original plans (which do exist and which they have - I've seen them) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Early versions had Merlins so that shouldn't be too much trouble (in comparison to sourcing 4 Hercules engines - TFCs beaufighter is a case in point) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
