If you can help, please review the below from the chat bar.... I have pasted the chat (excluding a couple of links to videos) The story so far....... xTbonex: Well, ive not been able to fix my IL2 issue, Ive tried all kinds of configurations, I suspect the VR tether cable may be damaged, although odd that its just IL2 with the issues. seeing as a new tehert is about £130, (yep, for a cable) thats me out... cant justify paying that for a cable. xTbonex: only other thing I can think it might be is an issue with the GPU drivers. but not sure how to revert back to the older ones. Friar: @Tbone - do you get the same low rates when using the flat screen? Friar: anything on the forums - if a gpu driver has screwed stuff a lot of people will be moaning xTbonex: im just having a look with VR not active. xTbonex: no its just the VR by the look of it, im getting 80-90fps on the monitor with no VR plugged in, I will try and rol back the GPU drivers, come to think of it there was an Nvidia update a few days ago that I installed., but I will have to do that later as I have to work today. xTbonex: when I boot up in VR, the loading screen stutters a lot and im getting artifacts all over th screen around the edges of the black box that comes up with IL2 logo in it, the VR just doesnt pan smoothy at all, its definitely the display thats causing the lag. the PC isnt breaking a sweat at all. xTbonex: ive also tried reseating the cable into the headset but thats not fixed it either, gave it another test with the driver roolback also and its still a problem. xTbonex: it does appear to be the headset I have to say, I ran it for 15 mins earlier on screen, and was getting a staggering 235fps. if the green digits were accurate, and that was maxed out settings xTbonex: its not a hardware issue, as I have an i9 129000, and an RTX 2080 with 32Gb DDR5 Beagle: I finally resolved my VR issues by re flashing my headset to an earlier firmware version. All good now. xTbonex: I may try re-installing the Oculus app a bit later. but im running out of ideas atm. at the very least im going to have another tweak of the settings in it Beagle: Tbone try working your way through this guy’s recommendations in your set up. I found his guides for IL2 and DCS setting up in VR to be very helpful. It’s worth a shot if you find yourself running around in circles with the VR stuff. Beagle: Oops sorry. Forgot to add the link. https://www.gamersbynight.com/il2-vr-settings-optimization/ xTbonex: I think I have fixed it, I wiped every trace of IL2 off my system and did a clean re-install, it must have been something in the settings or mods folder screwing things up. I manually deleted everything this time and started over xTbonex: had to remap everything, but thats fine, at least its working and im back up to 80-90 fps. xTbonex: that was frustrating. and sorry for the whingefest chaps. its only taken 3 days to locate and fix the issue. just glad it wasnt the VR set that had the issue. hard to believe one or 2 corrupt files could create so much havoc xTbonex: on 2nd thoughts maybe not, but... I thinnk its the icons mod messing it up, i installed it and its playing up again xTbonex: it wasnt that, I have no idea what it is, it worked for a while, I tried a restart and the problem re-occured, im going to try one more clean install of Oculus and IL2 after that Im done I think xTbonex: I ran a diag on Steam VR yesterday, and I can literally see the frame rates tanking on boot up, they never recover or go above 30FPS after that, something is clearly hapening on boot up. I tried to get open composite working but the game wont load, I used to use that on my old rig to bypass Steam VR Friar: Do you have any other games? are they the same? xTbonex: No its just IL2 thats playing up, everything else is fine. which is very frustrating I have to say xTbonex: teh weird thing is I didnt actually change any settings, it just decided the other day to not play along

MS Flight Simulator 2024 announced
Friar replied to BluBear's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
A bit of noise about if it will be a completely new game and not linked to the current version or just an update. People concerned for the money invested that will not carry over if it is a new game. It does look very good though. The career idea is quite good also. -
FT told me, it was the @ key

I assume everyone who plays on the server will need to put this update in as it will go on the sever and versions must match?
-
Can we merge the two threads together. would be easier to follow. text updates then pictures?

Stalingrad - Next Round June 25th
Friar replied to Friar's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
What identified it for you - did you run one of the monitoring programmes fruitbat mentioned or did it just go completely? -
Pictures or it never happened...
-
I put up this video because a)it is well made and b) I can find the links to the mods for the scenery easily

IL2 Update News (Sid will be pleased...)
Friar replied to Friar's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
The landing zone around the bridge needs to have a few trees removed first. Nearer the time I could contact the guy that did the North Africa map changes and see if you would be willing to clear a few trees out for us to make a landing zone? -
@DD_Fenrir - Spoke to Fruitbat last night and he helped me to get it sorted, thanks.
-
What do I have to do to install them please? I have downloaded them. Do they need a Spitfire folder in Liveries?
-
@Zukker Thanks for chipping in. It would be great to have your expertise on board with this. I am learning the editor as I go and would like to lean quite a bit on the likes of @DD_Fenrir and @fruitbat so having you available as well will be a bonus. I am planning my mission on the Caucuses map as everyone has it. I do not have the Syria map. Persian Gulf might be an option.

I have downloaded the excel utility. I have started work on the home base adding plane and helicopter slots. However when I try and open the .miz file it seems all encoded and not plain english like the video. I have tried using notepad and Notepad++, both are the same. Any thoughts? EDIT: just re-watched the video. You do not edit the mission but I save the statics as a template and then edit that to get the details....then plug then into the excel tool to make the script that will remove it.
-
Seems to delete a static item it has to be done with a triggered script - The below video seems to explain how to do it and also provide a tool to assist...
-
I have found a pilot in the static objects (see below) but can not remoe him when the jeep arrives (to simulate him getting into the jeep) Any one know if this is possible now? (had a google and it did not seem to be?)
-
I have made a start on a)learning the editor and b)testing my logic for the rescue. I have used a Hummer just for ease and a very small trigger zone for the Hey I'm here (fire a green flare) and successful rescue.

Salute, I have been thinking about us doing a mission that could use all our assets in a combined "co-op" type event. I would be happy to make a start but would need the assistance from "those that know" to help flesh it out until my skills improve. My idea... Scenario An allied plane has been shot down but the pilot was able to eject. His emergency beacon has transmitted the co-ordinates for his rescue. Enemy forces have also seen him eject and know that it is a high ranking US pilot that was hit and also want to capture him. They dispatch search helicopters, armoured road vehicles to search as well as multiple fighters in the air to enforce the search zone. US high command has ordered planes from the nearby Navel fleet to send F14's, from the nearest air station F16's plus a Bronco and Apache to help with the search. A Huey will also go in to pick up the pilot and bring him home. Lots of back slapping and beers in the bar afterwards Mission Editor Bit From my little knowledge and readings.. I have thought about the following. Pilot position - random generated from one of x locations so could be played multiple times? Pilot represented by single infantry When search assets enter trigger zone smoke set off to identify location? "I am here come get me"? Huey lands in smaller trigger zone (very close to pilot location) Pilot is deleted (he has boarded the rescue craft) If enemy vehicles get to pilot (helicopter land? not sure if possible) pilot is captured and mission has failed. Enemy planes patrol area and need to be taken out by F14 and F16's Enemy ground forces need to be stopped by Bronco and Apache Rescue helicopter(s) needs to escorted back to base from pursuing enemy and land to safely recover pilot for mission success. What do you think, doable as a project? @DD_Fenrir, @fruitbat, @Zukker - should I stick to things I know about and leave DCS to the grown ups?

Start Of Stalingrad Campaign - 21st May ?
Friar replied to Friar's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
@Crash - No worries, we will keep your seat warm. No set number as yet. Depends how quick we run the enemy into the ground or reach a stale-mate. But I think we should be good for at least 6 sessions like the others. -
Only if you are going to 20 and he takes his shoes and socks off
