  1. Oldtimer, glad to hear your OC settings "stick". My "current clock settings" are still dropping down to 500 core 750 mem... but I'm going to DL GPU-Z as it seems that this may actually not be the case. In any case I'm not sure why CCC works for you but not for me in this regard?!? If your problem is heat, I've definitely found the solution: the card's fan is set at a low default setting (23% in my case) which gave me very high heat (in the 75 C range at idle!!)- Follow these instructions to increase your fan speed and be AMAZED as you watch your temps drop 30 or more degrees: Instead of saying ""C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows ID\" for XP or "C:\Users\Your Windows ID" for Vista, use the %USERPROFILE% variable, which every Windows system will have. It is the same for both Vista and XP, and points to the appropriate location. I've changed your wording a bit to make it easier for n00bs to do/understand. Not taking credit for this, as that belongs to you. ================================================== ======== Make a profile in catalyst after turning on Overdrive and make sure clock and memory settings are correct. Then edit the .XML, where = the name you saved the CCC profile under. The file will be located in the following folder; to get to it, click START, then RUN, then copy the following path and paste it to the RUN dialog box, then hit ENTER: Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\ XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\ Right-mouse click on the .XML file and click edit. If prompted for what program to open the file with, choose Notepad. Now go down the page until you see the following lines in the XML file ... Change the "Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value=" from "Automatic" to "Manual" Then change "Property name="Want" value=" from "23" to your desired fan speed. Save the file then reload the Profile you just edited in the CCC. Remember that your fan will be locked to the % you set; if it's set too low you could damage your card. Be careful overclocking and setting fan speeds. For Crossfire, be sure to set the lines in the .xml file for all cards. I got it from this thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=265745&page=4 I've got mine "passed" up to 700 core and 1165 mem !!! making it all the more frustrating that CCC appears not to let me stick the OC.
  2. I'm really flummoxed. Using the CCC overdrive function and it's self test my card can do 690 core with 1133 mem... very nice OC... if only it would stick! After hitting apply (or save, I forget) the "current settings" box at the bottom reverts to the default settings after 30 seconds.
  3. I've had my CH pedals for about 5 years and they still work great despite a fair amount of abuse (ie: use with dirty/dusty sneackers; heavy-footedness). The only "maintenance" I've ever done was to hold the unit upside-down and shake the dirt out and stick a vacuum nozzle onto the opening... and I've only done that twice. Excellent piece of kit.
  4. Heehee...
  5. Spoken like a true gamer! LOL
  6. Congrtulations Tonar!!
  7. Thanks guys! Great feedback... it's great to know about customer support and the like as well as pure specs. The more I visit stores the more I'm leaning towards a 24" ... even wondering about Samsung's 25.5"
  8. Hey all, if I recall, a number of you fine gentlemen recently bought 22" or 24" monitors. I'm in the market for one and am hoping your experiences with IL2 on your monitors will assist me... I have read a number of reviews but as you know my primary reason/use of the monitor I figure you're best placed to give me some input. Cheers, C_G
  9. LOL... I bet someone at Mill Farm got the sack (har har) over that FU.
  10. Thanks gentlemen
  11. XP... any other suggestions? Could it be a security thing? I'm rather peeved. The only damn reason I upgraded was to be able to run with the Dogz again with decent frame rates.
  12. So I've got my new rig (WOOHOO), and installed the parts that I wanted to carry over (HDD and DVD drive) and all seems hunky dory so I pop the '46 DVD in and it spins, but nothing happens?!? I was able to install Rome Total War with the same DVD drive just afterwards, however... Any ideas?
  13. I wonder if his rental insurance covers this
  14. Following a post on Ubi, I'm now getting an ATI 4850 instead of the 3870.... for the same price
  15. Two words: "business expense" @OT- I too am expecting a nice boost. Current rig is: AMD Barton XP2500 OC'd to XP3000 (2GHz) ATI X850pro 1 gig of Ram It's a crime to have this chip and not OC (it's a VERY good overclocker by all accounts)... Once I've got it up and running I'd be glad to walk you through it, as we have similar components I'll be able to be quite specific. As for child #2: it may very well be tonight! Wife had some "show" and is having mild contractions...
  16. Hey Oldtimer, I've just placed an order for the following: XP home Foxconn X38A E8400 3.0 GHz 6MB Crucial 2X1 GB DDR3 1600 CL8-8-8-20 WD Raptor 74GB (I will be adding the HDDs I have in my current machine) Diamond Viper 3870 In a CoolerMaster 690 case w/ Seasonic 600W PSU. So we will have relatively similar machines (you'll have the better vid-card, obviously), it will be interesting to see how they compare. Are you planning to overclock?
  17. Wouldn't you want to keep up the suspense (tradition?) and cut off his right foot before throwing his body in the ocean?
  18. Hi Friar, I should have an 18" flat screen to give you in the next month, if you are willing to wait that long- shipping costs to UK only. C_G
  19. Coolio!
  20. Nice one, mate Thanks for sharing
  21. Very nice. Only criticism is that it looks too "factory fresh" for having so many mission markings (ex: no exhaust dust over the wings)... That's a tough scale to do such a large aircraft... congrats.
  22. Thanks for the description, Snacko
  23. What is it? 'Puter at work doesn't have Flash Player 9 so no joy Wev
  24. At least they gave it a classy send-off.
