Mac OS X is completely different system. everything u know about stuff in windows does not work on OS X. Any software that u have for windows is not working on OS X. that means that i u need MS Office u need to buy MS office for OS X, if u need FT's mod checker u need to ask hem to make a new one for OS X. but before that u would have to have IL2 for OS X witch does not exist. simple a? Lothar Posted November 25, 2009 Report Share Posted November 25, 2009 It's not completely exact your point 2, rather, in Mac you have a program that emulates windows. So instead of choosing which OS you want to use, you run Windows on top of Mac. I don't really know, but I guess this can have some effect on performance. Overpriced. 2. Software availability 3. Previous investment in Windows Software. 4. Learning curve required to become as comfortable with OSX as I am with Windows. Yes you can run Windows in a virtual machine, but performance is lousy and suitable only for office applications. Yes you can dual boot with an Intel based Mac, but if you want to run Windows then better value for money buying a PC unless Mac software requirement. Running WINE on a Mac is not for the faint hearted, a good degree of knowledge of both the Windows and the OSX environment is required. So unless you have a well founded reason for buying a Mac (you can't get equivalent software on PC for example) then don't bother. Case in point: My brother was persuaded by a guy he employed that he needed a Mac, not a PC, for his brochure production. So he bought a Mac, Photoshop and Illustrator and ended up paying more than double to do what he could have easily done on a PC with the same software and not alienated his brother who did his best to support his business IT (me being said brother ). Getting the Mac to work with the PCs was a nightmare, as was the Mac implementation of wireless networking... He had Windows based systems already... and three years down the line he still struggles with his Mac! But i think they r very cool..... and a a great machine cause a lot my Friends have Mac's, and i work on then. But, nevertheless, As far as i concern, i think my objectives r not work, so i don't need one, and it as several issues that i didn't foresee. New Mac computers are built around Intel processors. that means that theoretically u can install windows on that hardware. there is also possibility to create virtual machine on Mac that will run windows but that is for testing purposes only. it does not have enough power to run games. I'm not sure how far u want hot go with it but if u r ready to spend so much € UN a new Mac there are ways to install Windows operating system on it. but this is only acceptable if u want to buy it cause it looks as it is. in any case... on new Mac hardware u can install Windows system as a main system or as a virtual system. virtual system = no good, main system = complicated but cool looking computer. Whatever that may be, and taking into account variable pricing in different countries (us Euro's get raped by the US companies sadly when it comes to pricing) you have two choices of architecture: 1. Intel with an i5 or i7 CPU (top of the range i7 is £780 here in the UK) and a DDR 3 based board. 2. AMD PhenomII CPU, dual or quad core again coupled with a DDR 3 based board Choice of above combined with either an ATi or nVidia GPU, two hard drives and a DVD writer (or Blue Ray if budget stretches). Best bet would be for you to post up the model of the Mac you would have bought, we on the other bits of land can then compare local price of that against our local prices for a component build shopping list. You will end up with a 'smokin' system, and have the added bonus of the satisfaction of building it and increasing your knowledge of computers. delta7 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Share Posted November 25, 2009 definatly go for a pc over a mac. a key factor in your choice is down to what you are comfortable with on after sales 1) local shop - may be more expensive initially but should be easy to deal with should problems occur 2) mail order - lots of companies offer mail order from the big companies like dell to more specialist companies.
