Blairgowrie
Thank goodness it is not my main computer. I will get to the bottom of this one way or the other even if I have to replace the motherboard, ram and video card with PCI Express . Life is just too short to piss around with it and my wife needs her emails.
delta7
from your post you can see that the video card is not detected- Display Tab 1: The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer. Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: Manufacturer: Chip type: DAC type: Device Key: Enum\ Display Memory: n/a Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (1Hz) Monitor: Monitor Max Res: Driver Name: vga.dll Driver Version: 5.01.2600.0000 (English) DDI Version: unknown Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 8/23/2001 07:00:00, 9344 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes WHQL Date Stamp: n/a VDD: n/a Mini VDD: vga.sys Mini VDD Date: 8/3/2004 16:07:08, 20992 bytes Device Identifier: {D7B70EE0-4340-11CF-B063-282AAEC2C835} Vendor ID: 0x0000 Device ID: 0x0000 SubSys ID: 0x00000000 Revision ID: 0x0000 Revision ID: 0x0000 Video Accel: Deinterlace Caps: n/a Registry: OK DDraw Status: Not Available D3D Status: Not Available AGP Status: Not Available DDraw Test Result: Not run D3D7 Test Result: Not run D3D8 Test Result: Not run D3D9 Test Result: Not run you say you have installed the motherboard chipset drivers- can you check that the agp is enabled in bios and it isnt just looking for some other on board device- I think you said it was dual pci and agp so make sure correct source is enabled - do the same with the sound card make sure it isnt looking for on board sound. as others have suggested take it out and clean the connections and reseat the card then check and double check all the power supplies on the board and especially the power supply to the card good luck
Blairgowrie
Thanks for your help Dave. I am sitting with my computer buddy at his shop. After switching video cards etc we have finally concluded that it is a faulty AGP slot. Fortunately, he has a spare Asus board (socket 939, PCI Express) and a 7900 for $180. Should have it installed shortly.
