The Collective Project

Crash

Recommended Posts

So far I have repurposed a pair of speaker wall mount brackets for the sides. Then marked out the travel of the arm and the pivot point. I transfer drilled the up and down stops, pivot point, and the two spacer bolts. I then drilled the pivot bearing mounting holes and fitted the bearings. I used a long 8mm bolt as the pivot and drilled the arm 8mm and bolted it in positionIMG_0021.JPG

I was going to use gears to rotate the pot but the ones I got from amazon were too small. I thought the best way would be to use pulleys. I made the large one for the pivot out of a plastic waste pipe union and put a piece of MDF which I cut out with a hole saw to center it

All bolted up it looks like this

More later.

More progress on the base

IMG_0028.JPGIMG_0030.JPGIMG_0031.JPG

I found a small knurled knob for the pot and used a piece of elastic shoelace joined with an electrical connector.

IMG_0037.JPG

I had to cut the top mounting on the damper as it wasnt wide enough to take the top bearing. After it was all bolted in position it worked well. The next part will be the throttle and thumb switch.

Now complete

Arduino and switch wiring in the head

IMG_0062.JPG

This was using the DuPont cables which broke away from the solder when I fitted the top plate. I replaced the wires with silicon wires and soldered the ends to a 90 degree header pins to help with clearance.

a router table would of helped with making the case and pillar drill to ensure the holes on the side of the case line up and are square to the side.

a video about arduino and the .ino file plus how to rename the board.

Any questions or advice, just ask.

Wow Crash looks amazing and very professional. I love how you constructed the throttle system.

Love  how it looks. I'm so glad you sorted out the Arduino and its flash program.:occasion14::salute:

The replacement damper is now installed and is working nicely. the only thing is the force trim button has gone missing so I will have to investigate tomorrow or later this week.  It does feel nice and smooth.

Wow!

Very impressive, and well made!

Now that I have access to a Tormach770M CNC mill I have been thinking of resurrecting my collective project.
Original I 3D printed parts, but seeing how you designed and created this has inspired me :)

I have decided to move the throttle from the collective to a rotary on my button box, as a couple of times I have shut the engine down by accident. The AH-64 has a throttle on the side consul so it makes some sort of sense. I am slowly getting use to the Apache and feel that I should now move on to navigating and blowing stuff up.

I found corrosion issues on some of the soldered joints , so I have decided to move the Leonardo to the main body and change some switches for better ones. Pix will follow when the deed is done.
