    Oh the pain...

Possibly more like 'feckin mods' than Hugh's entire back catalog, but there you go. In any case, I'm giving up with it, between MB 3094 and 3097 it found and repaired over 5200 bad sectors and took nine hours to get that far. Given that there's over 150GB inaccessible on the drive and that there's other things I want to do this lifetime, I think this drive has come to the end. eBuyer have already agreed to swap it so I'll just get rid. Bah. Jabo

Lol, 0.64% and 3GB in, and I'm up to 140 bad sectors (and it claims 140 repaired) Jabo

I'll take whatever's going OT, I'm doing my best this end, but struggling Jabo P.S. Oh my, this could be a long process...I'm having a shot a regenerating the disk using this HDD Regenerator program, and while it appears to be doing the business, it might need to run for 24hrs or more before I get a result. Oh well, worth it in the long run I suppose...

    Oh the pain...

The drive spins up and some sectors are accessible while a large number of others are not. Windows 'sees' the drive but is unable to access it (tells me it needs formatting before I can use it). Using ubuntu I have managed to get the data from the accessible areas and move it to a separate drive. The inaccessible areas unfortunately encompass my entire users folder. I discussed this with a colleague who suggested that HDD Regenerator might be able to repair the inaccessible sectors so I could retrieve my data at least. I want the drive replaced in any case, as less than 12 months use is not good enough. Jabo

    Oh the pain...

Question; has anyone tried a program called HDD Regenerator to repair damaged drives? If so does it work and is it worth spending £27 to (possibly) get 30-odd GBs of data back? Jabo

Suits me, less stuff to worry about. Thanks FT Jabo

    Oh the pain...

Will do OT, PM on the way - and thanks For no reason other than I had it before, so... I understood it was a patch to fix something or other. Dunno really Jabo

    Oh the pain...

Grrrr - Even with things working normally, it took me over 6 hours to download that thing (and I have a proper rapidshare account)

    Oh the pain...

I'm touched (steady, JP), seriously, thanks guys I guess my minimum requirements are 4.09 and all the AAA UI files (1.1, 1.1.1, 1.2, 1.2a), having those will enable me to get online again with something that'll work. I also had IL2 MAT Manager, FT's x52 tuning thing and there was a ton of skins, planes and other stuff too, but I can live without those at least for the time being. What do you think? Jabo
  12. fo' shizzle (apparently) I'll rip it and post it as an mpg. Jabo
  13. Just a short clip from the episode aired yesterday! Ain't the innernet grand! Jabo

    Oh the pain...

That's it, I'm out for the forseeable. My internet connection is so slow, there's no way I'll be able to download the AAA stuff, it'll take me weeks (literally), so that's it for flying for the time being, possibly for good. I'll still be around here, but don't go looking for me on TS any time soon. So long guys. Jabo

    Oh the pain...

Different problem I'm afraid Perf, the drive spins up and I can extract data from most of it, but there seems to be a bad section which unfortunately encompasses all of my stuff. Seems like a good plan
  16. FT, there is no room in this forum for people who want to make compliments. Take this elsewhere please. Nice tie JP
  17. I might have a DVDRW going begging m8. It's a bit heavier than a processor or memory, so I'll try to get an idea of prices before you get too excited. Jabo
  18. Good post FT, I even understood most of it

    Oh the pain...

Yup. I really don't know m8, although I appreciate the offer. All of the stuff I need is in the Vault here thankfully, but it's the hassle of downloading it all again that's getting to me. Even losing my entire iTunes folder is less daunting in terms of putting it right. 'Happiness is a warm Spitfire' - LOL, I needed that. Thx. Jabo P.S. Please excuse the language in post #1, I am more than a little miffed.
  20. In keeping with the current hardware theme hereabouts one of my 500GB drives let go yesterday. unfortunately it's the one with all my photos on it, over 100GB of music and all my documents and with my RAID currently down, no backup either. Oh yeah, and six installs of IL2, and all the updates from the year dot onwards. So I'm off flying duties for the time being while I bang my head on the wall and weep bitter tears over being too f**king stupid to follow my own advice and back stuff up properly. So long for now. Jabo
  21. Sounds possible, just need to dump a car in the long stay car park at Dover and drop us at Calais on the way home, we travel back to the UK as foot passengers, pick the car up and voila! Alternatively 'borrow' a Transit from the local Ford dealership - 'Just going for a test drive squire' and return it some days later... Jabo
  22. I appreciate the offer Brando, but I reckon the d/l time *might" be less than the postage time - strikes notwithstanding. Jabo
  23. *sigh* This is going to take forever via my weedy connection.
