Gents, CloD is the most playable it has ever been thanks to the new TF patch and I'd like to spend more time in it, particularly in multiplayer and with some fellow Dogz stacked around me. Thus it is that I propose Monday or Wednesday night be allocated CloD night - for me this means probably having to give up my Tuesday night co-op attendance but will at least not clash with FT or Painless' Il-2 parties. For the moment it would likely be jumping on an existing server; many are well populated and have well structured missions, at least until I figure out the mission editor and more pertinently the new powerful tools available therein, and also what kind of mileage my rig will provide in terms of bandwidth and power for the not insignificant task of hosting. So gents my question is this - if you are willing and able to participate which night would mean a higher probability of your being able to attend - Monday or Weds?

Not as yet Snack. Most aircraft are late 80's early 90's vintage at earliest. There is DCS: MiG-21Bis is on the way but that's a little late for a Vietnam era. Gonna take a while for plane set & map types to expand into historical scenarios me thinks. However, in the online DCS world there are some cracking multiplayer missions utilising the trigger & scripting functionality inherent to DCS: World allowing you to do very realistic insertion/extraction missions; clever stuff! Add in some of your buddies flying CAS in A-10Cs or Su-35s and then some more covering your ass flying CAP missions in F-15s and keeping you clear of the fighter threat, it's becoming a very flexible & exciting time in DCS.

SO DCS: Huey! It's a beast lads, and bloody difficult! Hovering took many attempts and is still not pretty but at least i'm able to stay in the same postcode as the point I'm trying to hover over! Landings are even more of a challenge! Translational lift and vortex ring state proving to seriously complicate an already tricky procedure. However, it's rewarding when you manage it! In particular ship landings - this was the 2nd attempt and having filled my underwear, managed to prang it the next time! Chaps, if you love flying sims not only for the thrill of combat but for the sheer challenge of flying then you NEED DCS: UH-1H. It's gonna take time to learn but it's so bloody rewarding when you do. Best $49.99 I spent this year!

Music and aeroplanes? Oh, go on then....

That it does mate. Half the delight comes from just seeing it in the gunsight instead of another Pony! Tempted to agree with you on the 801 engined variants; they definitely look a darn sight more cohesive, proportionally I mean, but then it's not really surprising given that the aircraft was originally designed around the engine. Having said that, however, I find the Merlin Mustangs better looking than their Allison forebears, so it does not necessarily follow! As lash ups go, the D-9 still has charisma, if not being downright pretty to my eye, but then I don't really find any of the German aircraft of World War 2 pretty per se - interesting, sinister, functional and downright peculiar at times but never beautiful. Ah, though! The eye of the beholder and all that...

Pix of the Fw-190D-9, soon to be available as an AI opponent for DCS: P-51D owners and a little further ahead as a fully flyable DCS aircraft in it's own right. As if that's not enough, confirmation on planned WW2 content including maps! Wh00t!!!!! http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?s=f791dbb66343bec06a3e1183f1454817&t=104773 Thanks to Fruity for highlighting the original link.

It's been on my calender since Feb - only a serious accident is going to keep me from attending, and even then I'd bloomin well crawl there if necessary!

Spectacular, if nothing else....

No 80% PP available on a Mk1 (no 'a') Spit there Todd! Only coarse or fine pitch available. Guys for a good explanation on Spitfire props and the general differences between fixed, variable and constant speed units for all aircraft watch this video; NOTE: This video details the A2A Simulations Spitfire for FSX and cannot be translated directly to CloD, in particular the current two pitch prop modelling for the Spitfire MkI in CloD is incorrect as you cannot tweak between coarse/fine pitch; takeoff in fine and anywhere above 120mph go to coarse. Fly level to pick up speed, get to 160-180mph indicated then start your climb. Yes, in coarse at the lower end of the airspeed range you will have crap revs and power - thats just the way it is! So keep your speed up. As rule of thumb - with a CSU you set a desired RPM for the engine and the prop endeavours to maintain that RPM whatever speed/throttle setting... IF IT CAN. With a two pitch/variable you must adjust the RPM depending on your speed/throttle - Speed goes above 120mph, prop lever comes back is a simple rule. Your aim is to prevent the rpm exceeding 3000rpm.

Updated here via the auto-updater; did so at about 2010hrs GMT and was done on the stroke of midnight - patience is the key, as it seems the mirror sites bandwidth has taken a hammering in the past day. Bonus of using the auto-updater includes no faffing about uninstalling the lot and then having to download and reinstall the update for DCS: World and then each module individually, plus it won't destroy your graphic or control settings. Be advised that auto-updater will only run automatically for the first time you load the game on a given day; if you need to run it but have already been playing DCS that day then go to your Start>All Programs>Eagle Dynamics>DCS World>Update DCS World. Go get a cuppa, do some ironing or chase some sheep for a bit.... and it's done! Got better optimised loading times, the FPS drop whilst firing the .50s is much less for me now and the new Su-27 3D model is VERY pretty.

Shoreham & Eastbourne are usually a firm definite for me - I'd also, after Kevs posting in the video section, like the chance to see Dan Griffith throw The Spirit of Kent Spitfire around at Manston with my own eyes! And the Mayday first show of the year at Dx is always a great way to kick off the airshow season!

New D/f As Co-Op: Operation Renovate
DD_Fenrir replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in Missions and mission building
When? Not sure, was thinking soon but actually might hold out for the next HSFX patch to fix the Mossies; either that or we take it out of Expert Mode.... Thoughts? Home Bases en route...? I'm torn on this issue - sure I'd like to give the option to those who for whatever reason canot make the start-time but really want to have a go, however I think for the sheer tension and racking up the challenge factor, perhaps we leave them out. Currently I'm 60/40 in favour of not having spawn points en route.
