That's my assumption Sid, AFAIK there's no way to disable the other aircraft view without using a mod of some description. Like Colin, I also flew (albeit briefly) with a much reduced icon view and no other aircraft on the map and although it was certainly more challenging, it was by no means impossible to find targets so I'll stick with it for now. While we're on the subject of levelling the playing field, should we also consider separate comms channels for red & blue

With my dodgy eyesight I find it hard enough to pick up aircraft against a background as it is but in the interest of balance I am prepared to give it a try. That said, if I find that I have to turn back on any of these settings to give me any chance, I will not use any advantage unfairly. Although I don't know for certain, does VR's lower resolution not lead to larger dots at long range compared to a higher resolution monitor display?

Like Arthur says, this is a step-change in complexity from '46 although with many hours in Blitz now, it wasn't too much of a wrench personally. I know I spend a lot more time now checking gauges in the pit rather than relying on the HUD. And at least it's not as bad labour intensive as DCS.

I've got an x-52 pro you can borrow if you want Delta - full working order last time I used it but the mode switch sometimes is a little flakey. Still it's a temporary solution.

I'd be interested in the MFDs Dave, I don't actually need them though so if some DCSer really wants them then they should have first dibs Do they use a USB port each?

I assume you mean that you have a 2TB drive rather than a 2GB. For most bits of recovery software that I've seen, the target drive has to be considerably larger than the source drive as rebuilding the file structure takes a lot of space while the software is doing its thing. The software companies concerned take the easy way out and say you need double the capacity on the target drive. This will also take a very long time with a drive of this size. Would it not be quicker just to download the games again?

Hi Mobius, good to hear from you again mate. Just one thing to bear in mind regarding mods (for you and JP) , in order to connect to our servers you will need to run the game in 'mods on' mode even if you're not using them yourself. That's because if you want to run mods locally on your machine (like a lot of the guys do) then the server has to be running 'mods on' as well and therefore everyone connecting to that server also need to run 'mod on' irrespective of whether or not they use mods themselves. There's a checkbox in the Game menu under Settings to turn mods on when you get to that point. If you decide you want to use mods, then the best way is to use JSGME just like in '46 and there are a few helpful threads on the IL-2 forum explaining how to go about setting that up. Well done chaps. Personally I prefer to fly whole missions but the map size is problematic so this is a useful project. If I can be of assistance, let me know. I'm actively involved with the TF 5.0 Alpha testing at present, but I can certainly find the time over the next couple of weeks to chip in if required.

The theoretical maximum speed for a SATAIII connection is 6GB/s. I don't think 6 megabits per second is going set the world on fire 😉. Notice the use of the word theoretical - you are unlikely to see anything remotely approaching that in a real-world application (SATA SSDs are still much quicker than standard hard drives) - much like the fuel economy figures the manufacturer says you can get out of your car/truck/bike (delete as applicable). PCIe SSD cards are available but I would advise you to check very carefully that your board supports them, I've skimmed through the manual and I think it's highly unlikely but I'm prepared to be proved wrong. They are also MUCH more expensive that a standard SSD so I would probably just add another SSD and keep the change. Failing that and if you're feeling flush, swap out the mobo, processor and memory and get your added horsepower that way - in addition you could then swap out SSDs for M.2s later if you felt so inclined.
