Dennis, what pins are you using? I might have to pinch your sketch and mod it.
-
Parts will arrive today and I will try to get to grips with the Leonardo.
-
I have hit a snag. I have soldered the dupont wires to the switches but the wires break very easily. I think I will have to re-wire and use crimped connectors. Wire, soldering tips and terminals ordered. Got to get this sorted!
-
Thanks Dennis, I will run the pots (4 of them) off the 5v and the buttons off the 3v. I have found out that i can glue the pins off my dupont cables together and make a sort of multi-pin plug. The sketch hasnt been sorted yet, I have one for 5 axis controller. I can edit that down to 4 and then add the button part. I will have 13 buttons, each to a separate pin so I will have to copy paste the routine for this and then test it.
-
Dennis, can I use the 3v to power the buttons? I have looked up on google but I cant find out. What about the 5v (pin2) on the 6 pin header, can that be used?

Stalingrad - Next Round June 25th
Crash replied to Friar's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
I think Beagle was having possible heat issues. -
It nearly finished now Colin. I have covered what I did in the Hardware forum. Outstanding jobs are 1/ glue the collar on to the column 2/ drill a hole to feed the usb cable through the button box 3/ do the Arduino sketch 4/ plug the cables into the board and test 5/ fit the assembly into the simpit.
-
next bit the old belt using a 1 1/2" rubber seal from a waste pipe. This developed a split. marking out switch positions Lots of wires New improved belt
-
The cunning plan worked and the soldering is now done. A few minor jobs to do the sketch and test. Will put up some photos tomorrow.

ev blog #343 01.06.2023 Dear Friends, Today is the first day of summer (finally!) and it's time to start the races even that was announced before. To participate, join one of the multiplayer race servers (they are called WarBRD Race Tournament =Group A= and WarBRD Race Tournament =Group B=) and fly the track on the selected aircraft (Bf-109 F-4 in Group A and Yak-1 series 69 in Group B) as fast as you can - the number of attempts during the qualification stage is not limited. The completion time in each attempt will be recorded automatically, the best time in the group will be taken into account. Please note that after the end of the event all the participants who have flown the track at least once will receive a small gift on our website. If you are playing the Steam version of IL-2, then the IL-2 and Steam accounts must be linked so that the server could identify you (your nickname must be visible in the main menu of the game). If you have not linked your accounts yet, you can do it quickly - click on the automatically generated pilot name in the main menu of the Steam version of the game and then either enter your IL-2 login and password or go through registration there. If you wish to make your results eligible for the race finals and receive special gifts from VIRPIL Controls and 1C Game Studios, please visit Virpil-servers.com and register there - you'll get an unique code via e-mail. You have to enter this code in the multiplayer chat on the racing server to have your race results tied to VIRPIL Controls account. You can view the results of all participants at any time here. The qualification stage ends on June 11. Ten selected finalists will participate in the finals on June 17th - three fastest racers and other finalists will receive special gifts from 1C Game Studios and VIRPIL Controls. The discussion of the races is going on in Discord on VIRPIL and IL-2 Great Battles channels. The races rules are available here. We wish good luck to all participants! In other news - at the moment several aircraft are in the works as usual. We'll love to tell you about them in detail closer to their release, but today we can at least show you how the first two aircraft of Flying Circus Vol. III look in the sim at the moment (other planes including collector ones are either at an eariler development stage to show or were already shown on screenshots before). Here are Halberstadt D.II... ... and Nieuport 11. -
New cunning plan, I have ordered a 3D printer belt and pulley, Hopefully this will work out.
-
Thanks Wingy, most of the soldering is now done. My original rubber band on the throttle has now got a split so I will need to come up with a new cunning plan. Might get some photos up tomorrow.
-
Base now complete and soldering commenced.
-
How many buttons and axis are on your sketch Dennis?
-
Will do Wingy, I have fitted all the switches, so I need to solder the wires and get Leonardo talking to the computer.
-
Thanks Dennis I will give that a go.

IL2 Update News (Sid will be pleased...)

Glider due in the Autumn https://il2sturmovik.com/news/797/5103-patch-roadmap-and-special-event-announcement/?_gl=1*ujfmby*_ga*MzI5OTQxMjcuMTY3ODk3Nzc2NQ..*_ga_M3ND9NY3EC*MTY4NDM0Nzk5OC4zMjMuMS4xNjg0MzQ4MTA3LjAuMC4w -
More progress, as I have decided to mount the Leonardo in the button box on the lever I had to feed the wires from the collective pot up the lever along with the USB cable. This meant taking the plate off the side to get access to the collective pot, and taking the lever off the pivot to allow the cables to be fed up the tube. All back together now.
-
The throttle thumb stick the bracket holding the back of the box The joystick joystick position in the box with the hat on More later
-
More progress, I have soldered the 2 pots and have roughly positioned the throttle complete with thumb stick. I will put some photos up soonish in my build thread.
-
More progress on the base I found a small knurled knob for the pot and used a piece of elastic shoelace joined with an electrical connector. I had to cut the top mounting on the damper as it wasnt wide enough to take the top bearing. After it was all bolted in position it worked well. The next part will be the throttle and thumb switch.
-
Who are these grown ups of which you speak?
-
The Leonardo works. BUT it isnt very obvious how to load a downloaded sketch or even how to download the sketch. After quite a while I have the board set up as a 5 axis controller and it tested OK. Now to find the sketch I need, that is 4 axis, one 4 way hat switch and maybe 10 or so buttons.
