  1. sadly for me the earliest that support my card are the 8.9s... Beginning to regret switching from nVidia, never ever had insurmountable issues like this.
  2. Hmm. I have 8 18.2GB UW SCSI drives and a Compaq Smart Array controller, I wonder if my mobo has a 64bit slot...now that would make a fast drive setup
  3. Knight, this will have to be confirmed closer to the day (I may have moved!!) but we can put up two guys at my home. Not the most comfortable beds in the world, but they are usually dry before they get inhabited.. We are 17 Miles from Duxford

    PWN Youtube

No really! Try this when you see a YouTube video you want to share/keep locally, for example: Want it saved for posterity on your PC? The change the link so that the www.youtube bit becomes www.pwnyoutube and hit enter, you should get this (for the example video above): http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=w35hEwyZkO8 Neat eh!

    XP 64 Bit

The drivers Deputy posted would not work M8, because they are for the US version of the card which is based on the Broadcom chip. Yours is based on the Atheros chip (we have different channels/frequencies in Europe) so you may get more mileage by using these: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/drivers/64bit_atheros_V4.2.1.1%20.zip It will be a case of unzipping that, and then updating the driver and pointing to the inf file in that zip. It may or may not work....the post Here indicates that the OP thinks it will, and he modified the Broadcom driver inf file to work with XP64. But again I would venture that wired is significantly better for gaming, and with such a 'latency consistent' sensitive application as IL2 more so..

    XP 64 Bit

Trust me that is a blessing in disguise
  7. Online ticket booking: http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/server/show/nav.61 Tickets are sold by the Imperial War Museum on their site linked above.
  8. There are two methods for getting audio off CDs in computers. Analogue via a small thin wire, with a 4 pin (I think) plug that plugs into the CD beside the main IDE cable and then into the sondcard. Alternative (and IMO better) is digital via the IDE cable itself. Go in to control panel, open Sounds and Audio devices, click on hardware tab then on your CD/DVD drive. Click properties button, then click properties tab then tick 'Enable digital CD audio for the CD-ROM device'. Test...
  9. Yep I ran Crysis maxed out @ 1680 x 1050, until the last mission where it kept crashing. I applied some of the tweaks from the Crysis Modding forum, it looked just as good and got me through the final showdown. I also got stutters on the Warhead winter map though, and this was under Vista 64 with DX10. I did get the occasional slow down here and there in both games, but nothing major and it didn't impact on the game play. This was on my 4Gb 6000+ ATI 4870HD system.
  10. I like your thinking Deputy. and they are the sort of purchases I would consider too. Two systems that will game when pressed, but also are excellent work workhorses for earning $$$, and for a decent price too! When I look at the systems I have running here, which I use for lab scenario purposes and testing, they are all capable of running IL2 (OK so the AMD Barton 3200+ doesn't do it quite as well as the FX60/AMD64 4000/Amd64 3700 systems, or my AMD64 6000 system, but it still serves well but my electricity bill is interesting!
  11. I am intending to attend
  12. Now that is a bloody shame. And this from the guy (edit: Me that is) who lives 20 odd miles away from Duxford but didn't make it last year (apologies Kelly it really would have been so great to meet you).
  13. You can get separate power supplies now for GPUs, and there is a method for switching a 2nd standard AT/ATX power supply on automatically with the in-built one too. Just a thought for the future should you need it M8.
  14. Sorry overlooked posting this earlier Knight.. Your Xi-Fi sound card has no acceleration enabled, it should handle full hardware acceleration without breaking a sweat.. Also got this response on UBI forums, not tried it yet:
  15. Nice one Knight! Now if I feel the urge to use Vista I know how to fix it, curious that the XP 64 8.12 drivers don't do this!
  16. XP64: Using 8.12 drivers, this issue is not present! I'm sticking with XP then.
  17. Well I tried earlier drivers. Looks like we are stuck with it for now, unless someone knows an arcane trick with the conf.ini that fixes this..I'll pose the question over at UBI.. Earliest version that supports our card is 8.7 and the purple weirdness is evident with them Used, for giggles, the 7.11 file and no purple haze, but about 0.5 frames per second (pre 4800 series driver). For reference to get the older driver to work in IL2 only: Download from ATI target driver only pack. Extract using, say 7-Zip, the atioglxx.dl_ file to a folder (example c:\temp) Fire up command console with start and type in cmd. In console: cd c:\temp and hit enter. Then type this command: expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll
  18. OK. I booted my Vista64 Ultimate, running 8.9s. Gun flash is OK but dynamic lighting is porked, I get the same purple haze on wing-over in external view, and if 'sun light' falls on cockpit panel it takes on the same weird purple hue. Looks like an ATI driver bug. I recall a work around way back where using earlier driver files was possible, whilst retaining later drivers for other games/apps. I'll see if I can remember how it was done. Screen shots: (please attach images directly to the forums guys, they load much much quicker )
  19. OK back to basics. What Mobo do you have? Is it one of those Hybrid AGP/PCI-e models? Any chance of a peek at your Dxdiag, both 32bit and 64bit? Have you un-installed and carried out a driver clean up operation prior to installing the 8.12s? Try removing Catalyst drivers, and manually delete the ATI files/folders in C:\. Then use this tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and remove everything Catalyst Control Center and CCC, and "Skins" related. Then re-install ATI Cats again after reboot.
  20. I'm using an ATI 4870HD. Couple of points. 1. Always use OpenGL, even with ATI cards - I have done on for years and performance is vastly superior to DirectX (IL2 uses a DirectX wrapper around the OGL). 2. Use IL2 Setup to set for the latest ATI Radeon card. 3. Open and edit conf.ini after step 2 to set screen area and then paste in the OpenGL settings from conf.ini pasted below. Note: there is a line 'videoSetupId=x' which I believe should not be changed in you conf.ini. The above is posted for posterity, as a source for future queries! Here's my conf.ini: [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=2 TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=0 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=0 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0 HardwareShaders=0 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=2 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=2 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=8 Water=1 Effects=1 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.0625 PolygonOffsetUnits=-1.0 My CCC:
  21. Thanks JP, a great erad and S! toDuff.
  22. I'm pretty sure the stats are still reasonably accurate Pooka, since we have been using SMF as the forum software at least. And I have a vague recollection that it imported the stats from the previous software too. But no-one can hold a candle to Grey Knights dedication to the forums: Total Time Spent Online:
