    RAM

CPU-Z will show you how your RAM is made up, you will need to go to the SPD tab and use the slot drop down to iterate through the slots: [attachimg=#] You will also be able to see what speed and make your RAM is. With AMD getting it working in dual channel mode means they have to be an exact match, generally, and ideally a matched pair. However I have managed to get Crucial non-dual channel packed RAM to work fine. Truth is that it is always best to buy a matched pair, it is then guaranteed to work. Otherwise you are faced with having to test thoroughly using memtest86 before you load the OS to preclude the chance of corrupting XP and rendering it unbootable.
  2. S! M8, good to see you over here. Bugger - I was actually available for flying last night but only checked our own TS, having completely forgotten about BGs 'UBI nights'.. Oh well...

    RAM

CPU type has an influence too. If Intel then usually you can run 4 x 512mb no problem, if AMD then your looking at getting 2 x 1Gb sticks, and discarding/selling/pawning the current sticks.

  5. I use Gotomypc from gotomypc.com, because I have to traverse a corporate firewall, and couldn't be bothered to set up a SSH tunnel. It is quite expensive, but allows 3 hosts and can even be used on a windows based smartphone I can send out 2 month trial invites (standard invite is 1 month) for anyone in a pinch and needing it. It is very good, for the techies amongst us it is a Citrix company ;)
  6. Crysis is a bear of a game when it comes to hardware. I was able to run it with full graphics @ 1680 x 1050 on my AMD 6000+ 4Gb and ATI 4870HD, but there were areas it would stutter... Valid points made about the meaning of this bench mark, and if truth be known to us guys the proof of the pudding is what our systems will do with the good old gold standard, and I'm surprised it has not been mentioned before, of using IL2 and Fraps (or the in game counter) to determine the min/max/average frame rates. Mine with maxed settings: Avge 41 Max 83 Min 14 I haven't optimized my GPU largely because the ATI CCC failed to install (8.12 CCC has known issues with XP64 ) and I haven't got around to installing RivaTuner. I do ponder the value of a faster hard drive, yes applications/windows/games will load faster, but I would not expect that to have an impact on frame rates, unless the system needs to page virtual memory - but then more RAM would be a better buy in that case .

    XP 64 Bit

Thanks M8, downloading Kaspersky now. The MOD used to use Kaspersky, don't know if they still do... Re: wireless, it is my experience that for online gaming you cannot beat wired, my wireless router is 3' away but I still use wired because of the increased latency wireless gives, plus the latency is not consistent.
  8. I think you need to either feed the hamster, or stop fooling around with those nuns Friar!

    XP 64 Bit

My experience of XP64 so far has been pretty good. Downside: 1. No longer able to program my joystick buttons on my MSFFB2 2. ZoneAlarm security suite doesn't support XP64, nor it would seem does Norton. Tried Comodo but that was too buggy, so in the absence of contraception I'm now abstaining
  10. And it is now available on Steam too
  11. hey Stingray, do yourself a favour and get nLite linked in my post above, then you can have SP2 or SP3 from the get-go It is easy and will only cost you a CD and half an hour or so of your time.
  12. I'm running 64Bit XP too, ATI drivers are fine unless you want the 8.12s which are buggy and will not install properly under XP64. All other drivers were fine, Creative for the sound card, Chip Set (AMD/ATI so a little odd to find and install) CH controllers etc. Lost the ability to program my MSFFB2 stick, but hey ho at least I have all my RAM .
  13. Sounds like he has a SiL sata controller. But surely he would be better placed slipstreaming SP2 or dare I say even SP3? SlipStreaming for the masses... and it's free, if you feel adventurous you can even get the drivers for chipset and GPU included in your XP install disk
  14. This topic has been moved to Mission and Event Announcements. [iurl]http://www.dangerdogz.com/forums/index.php?topic=6397.0[/iurl] IP address and password information in this topic will be secure there
  15. The 8.12 drivers are a POS. On my third attempt got them installed but no CCC. Your best bet Kelly is go into safe mode (F8) and clear out the drivers using driver cleaner, then install either 8.10 or 8.11 drivers.
  16. ..are a sod to find. You may already know this if you have an ATI chipset board, but getting the South Bridge drivers is not straight forward, they are hidden.. Once you have selected your OS and Graphics adapter you get taken to a download page. Once there click the menu item 'Drivers and Tools' on top menu bar and you will now be presented with all ATI GPU and Mobo drivers...

    Help My Soldier!

Mildenhall is just up the road from me She will get DSL in the area, unlikely to have cable over that way. So first step will be a house/flat, then a 'phone then sign up with an ISP
  18. You should really be using Firefox.. Read this article on the BBC regarding a serious new security flaw now being used by crooks: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7784908.stm
  19. Hell, that is my ex-wife's twin sister! I can tell them apart 'cos she has the better teeth than my ex..
  20. I see you are still on the make Mick! Perhaps Jim will introduce you two

    Good day DD

4.09 is the patch level for all Dogz sorties, so you would need to apply this in any event. When you do assist in the SEOW I can if required, and requested by the commanders, grant you access to whichever part of the forums that will work best for both parties. I have a gut feeling that once you do fly with the Dogz it won't be very long before you realise that you have found yourself a permanent home in our Pound!
  22. OMG where was that taking place?
  23. That'll be me fiddling Andrew, all sorted now I hope. Friar was affected too.

    new pedals

Kelly it sounds like your Saitek was on ID1, then your pedals snatched ID1 for themselves, putting your stick on ID2. So...in controls -> hotas section in game re-assign the aileron and elevator axis to your Saitek again
