  1. I would not put a USB drive through a hub unless it is a good quality powered one. Gec has a good idea, turn of the Full screen logo on boot if possible so you can see the post progress. I am not aware of any BIOS that allows an option to not iterate USB devices on post.. My Maxtor 650Gb remains plugged in at all times, and the only time I am aware of it's existence is when I open explorer and it has gone to sleep
  2. The I386 folder is the largest chunk of the cd. The remainder can easily be copied across the 'net, including the boot.img part (this makes the CD bootable) as it is small beer data size wise. I can give more detail - but this link does it way more justice: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#wxp Server 2008 is a 3Gb download from Microsoft, a trial version is available. Simply install it (Standard Edition will suffice) then once booted run the utility from here: http://www.win2008workstation.com/wordpress/ I would also download and install DirectX redistributable - or grab it from a recent game release that has it on the disk (STALKER was a good example). Install all required drivers, by downloading Vista 64bit drivers (2008 is built on the Vista Core without the bloat). Then install your games/apps. As far as learning curve goes, with the exception of running the Workstation Converter, it is no different to learning Vista. The converter takes a few minutes and a reboot to do it's magic.
  3. Does your old system still boot? Does it have a I386 folder on it? You can get the key from a running system (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/tp/topkeyfinder.htm Magical Jelly Bean KeyFinder works) if it is not printed on a label. If you have an I386 folder it is relatively easy to reconstruct a bootable CD. Re: Vista 32 vs XP64... Vista to Windows 7 will be a snap, XP64 to 7 will be a complete rebuild. You can, of course, put off buying an OS right now if you don't mind running 2008 for 240 days (after which you will need to install a new OS anyway) it is very little work to make it like a desktop OS. I put 2008 on my brothers PC Saturday, he is over the moon with the performance compared to XP..he now also has the benefit of Directx10 for his STALKER game.

    Sid's Day Out

Thanks for sharing Sid, seeing that Tiger Moth reminded me of my jaunt in one a couple of years back, I swear my ears are still set back from the width of my grin! (it is a Tiger Moth isn't it???
  5. Would the attached help? Forgot I had this.... Unzip it to it's own folder, navigate to it and run ACMVIZ.exe then select 'File' - 'Open' you'll find scissors amongst other maneuvers there. ACM.zip
  6. The switcher requires .net framework 2 to run. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en That is the 32 bit version, if running 64 bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=45&p=4&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&u=details.aspx%3ffamilyid%3dB44A0000-ACF8-4FA1-AFFB-40E78D788B00%26displaylang%3den Sorry late replying, could have saved you some hair but been pulling mine out all day - my hard drive has failed for good again today and it has taken most of the day to get booted into a decent OS
  7. You may want to check this post too JP, could save you some frustration: http://www.dangerdogz.com/forums/index.php/topic,6749
  8. Fine by me Sir! Good news is my switcher can be configured to switch only 352nd (a check box not ticked does it) and it still remembers what was last run. I'd like to look into the possibility that a Co-Op host could tick a box that updates data on our web server, so when the switcher is run by others it will automagically set the right version for the host. But that might be a bit ambitious for me...
  9. It is possible to install AAA over a 352 modded game... You need to rename two folders first though: In your game folder the ones called Files and MODS, if you rename them to 352Files and 352MODS you will be prepared for my mod switcher, when I complete it, which will toggle between these options: 1. 4.08 Clean from 352nd Source 2. 4.08 Clean from AAA Source 3. 4.09 Clean from 352nd Source 4 4.09 Clean from AAA Source 5. 4.08 Modded from 352nd Source 6. 4.08 Modded from AAA Source (no 6DOF) 7. 4.08 Modded from AAA Source (6DOF on) 8. 4.09 Modded from 352nd Source 9. 4.09 Modded from AAA Source (no 6DOF) 10. 4.09 Modded from AAA Source (6DOF on) It will also switch between sources, so you can go from 4.08 Modded from 352nd Source to any other variant. Which is part of the reason why it has taken a while to develop it, my hard drive biting the dust today had nothing to do with it really (I am SOOOOO thankful I was backing up every hour ) but two disk failures in 3 months seems a bit extreme, they were both Seagate Barracuda 320Gb drives..todays disaster took my XP (and development) install and Vista 64 with it.. Arsenal, you can get a good handle of what is required from This very nicely constructed post BG - are we close to adopting the AAA, or would you rather wait for my switcher?
  10. XP32 unless you want more than 3GB RAM. XP64 is pretty solid, much better than Vista 64 for me personally, But I now favour Server 2008 converted to work station (all the goodies of Vista like DX10 but with the speed of XP).
  11. Switcher doesn't change them, mod pack does.
  12. The mods swap out the core dll's from the 5 dll pack. I used the latest ones to get those options '02272008_core_dll' IIRC.
  13. Wahay good one Arsenal, looking forward to seeing you in the virtual skies
  14. phew! Relieved to hear that!
  15. Files in the Vault for the AAA mods went via my system and were scanned by Kaspersky, so should be safe. But BG is getting his AAA pack from FileFront I think
  16. Re-uploaded the exe file now.
  17. This is what is driving the desire to create 3 applications now Jim. 1. The verification tool. 2. A switcher of our own making. 3. A download manager that uses ftp and download verification, for large files such as this. I don't expect it to be capable of restarts, but at the very least it will use ftp which is a much more reliable method of downloading files.
  18. 45 minutes on my upload left However I got it originally from here: http://files.filefront.com/AAA+Community+Installer+v1exe/;12502966;/fileinfo.html You could try pulling that one down.
  19. MD5 failed on the new download? I'm re-uploading the file now.
  20. Tell you what, download the attachment. Extract the file md5summer.exe to a folder (desktop will do) run it. Point it to the folder you have your AAA files in, click Verify Sums and it will ask for a file, the second file (Mods Pack.md5) I have attached is the one it wants, it will then verify your files and tell you which one(s) fail. Got to go shopping now, be back in a couple of hours. md5v12011.zip
  21. Hold on Tonar. You need to do a directory listing of the folder the download is in, with any luck the corrupt file is obvious by its deviation from normal size. This is what you should have: E:\Games\IL2\mods\Mods Pack>dir Volume in drive E is Main Volume Serial Number is 146F-5487 Directory of E:\Games\IL2\mods\Mods Pack 14/02/2009
  22. Forgot #14 14. Funding of a commission to determine if establishing a Dead Horse breeding program would yield long term benefits.
  23. That is the same source I got mine from Jim. Double clicking the AAA_Community_Installer_v1.exe gave me this screen:
