Flyboy583
Ok so here are my first thoughts... I have updated COD through Steam and assume that it is fully up to date.I have maxed out the settings on my system System Spec INTEL Core i5 2500K Quad Core (3.3Ghz) CORSAIR 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM ATI HD 6950 2048MB I started out on a free flight over the ocean. The scenery is beautiful (Love that ocean). I immediately felt at home in the cockpit of my Spitfire and could imagine what it must have been like flying up and down the coast of England in the Summer of 1940.... Finally a simulation that is starting to deliver the reality what I have always searched for... So I though time to head back towards Dover. I quickly put the spit on her left wing and headed towards the coast. En route I mapped some controls to my X45 and did some aerobatics... I now really am enjoying this simulation .. I then start seeing the faint outline of the British coast and trim the spit out to fly straight and level and leave her to head for home... This is where the fun started... I started noticing what I can only describe as lagging the closer I got to land, it was more annoying than anything and all of a sudden all the bad things I have read about COD started to hit home.. I so badly want this simulation to be what I hoped... At this point I shut the game down to join Sweper on some coops on IL2... Today I am going to start playing around with my settings to hopefully get this problem sorted. As always not to reinvent the wheel does anybody have some advise on what to do first? Any tweaks I need to consider?? How to I record frame rates in COD? I think I need to set a bench mark before I start tweaking the simulator... Looking forward to any advice! DD_Arthur
Hi Leon, I can see from your screen shots that you've got everything to the max at the moment. You've got a pretty decent system there that should give really nice results with CLoD. First of all just check that you are running the latest version of CLoD. You should be showing version 1.05.15950. I'm sure you are, Steam is pretty reliable. To get a measure of frame rates bring up a quick mission. When its running and you're in cockpit press Q to bring up the console commands. Now type in fps START SHOW and press enter to bring up the ingame frame counter. When flying, get rid of the mirror immediately. It does nothing at the moment and you will see an immediate gain of 5 - 15 fps, depending on your system. Now go into the video menu and bring up the options. Have you got trackir btw? Set your resolution to your monitors native resolution and your refresh rate to that of your screen too. Set anti-aliasing to 2. Again, this is another feature that does not work at the moment. Make sure the anti-epilepsy filter is unchecked. Uncheck the SASSOA thingy too. Once again, this is a feature that did work but is now no longer needed. Vysinc? Depends on whether you have trackir. If you have then put it on but it's worth experimenting with. This is air combat so who gives a shit what the ground looks like? Leave those beautiful shadows on and effects to high but reduce all the ground 'enhancements' to low and then see how you get on. That means land detail to low, building detail and frequency to low, trees to low, roads off, grass off, etc and see how you get on. What would be nice in a future patch would be to have the option to disable ground shadows whilst retaining cockpit shading. Look at all those trees and the blobby shadows they cast. Thats eating up your systems resources for no useful reason. Fly around and see how smooth you run the game and what fps you are getting and then start turning the effects back up until you reach that compromise between eye candy and game performance that you can live with. Flying with CEM off will give you better frame rates but once you've got to grips with the basics I'd try and fly with it on as much as possible as online it's mandatory and there is something rather satisfying in having mastered it. Nothing too difficult either it's just that each 'plane has it's own method. Can't think of too much else at the 'mo as I'm on my lappy not my game machine. Good luck and have fun. Mayhem
Also AA kinda sux right now but there is a workaround for it http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=123121 the thread is for Arma 2 but it works the same. You should see pretty dramatic AA improvements especially on closer objects. I'm with Arthur, the trees in CLOD seem to not be optimized very well yet and hopefully this will improve in the future. I find the turning off the mirror (m key) and setting trees to low seems to have the greatest impact on FPS. You may be able to get away with just doing that. Also there is tell that in the conf.ini setting the stencil bits to 24 I believe it is has seemed to give an improvement for some folks. Don't know if this still applies in the latest patch but worth a shot. To my understanding CLOD doesn't have fully implemented multicore support yet so in time we should see the performance getting better as there are many areas they can improve optimization. Hope this helps, let us know.
Flyboy583
Mayhem & Arthur Sorry for taking so long to reply guys..... Firstly thank you for all the advice. I have tweaked my settings (Mirror off, grass ect) PS Mayhem, I don't have TRACKIT...l... yet So the result is that the lagging has now completely disappeared. I have flown online for up to 90 planes and no problem.. I have to admit, i am getting addicted to COD.. It is such a beautiful simulator and feels so realistic! I keep on thinking back to late 1939 through to late 1940 that this is what it must have felt max climbing to altitude over the channel to intercepting some bandits... This simulation is becoming fast everything I hoped it to be... I love the realistic modeling and complex engine management.. So my closing thoughts, if this is the start of what is to come for COD.... then imagine what it will be like in 5 years time (When compared to the development and community following of IL2 1946) Surely the start of something quite spectacular.........
