I don't know if the Asus bios tool will work with your Mobo, bios flashing is one of those things that needs to be perfect so I would steer away from that (I have a copy of the utility here as I have 2 Asus boards but would hate to see you lose your mobo from a bad flash).

If you have an Asus CD with your system the EZ Flash utility will be on it, possibly along with ASUS Probe (sounds painful) that will display CPU, Mobo temps and all voltages (and record them too for trouble shooting).

Floppy disks are very cheap, buy a box....they can still be indispensable which is why as a 'legacy device' they are still apparent on new PCs.

BIOS flash is the lower of your priorities, test your RAM first.

RAM 'Qualified for your board': (this list may appear garbled its from Here..)

This shows what has been tested to be Ok, if you deviate from this list you need to do your own testing. IL2 will tax memory (and system) much more than most other games/simulations.

If you don't have the money to upgrade in the short-term and want to get more performance out of your rig - consider overclocking your Barton 2500, generally speaking its a very good chip with a lot of headroom for overclocking.

I have the same chip and can run it at XP3200 speeds with the default AMD heatsink (!) If I push it (extra voltage) I can even run it at xp3400 speeds but I need to put a house fan next to it to stay stable playing IL2/FB/PF.

If you want to OC and have never done it, drop me a pm and I'll walk you through it (you'll need to match your DDR ram first though - pick up 2 sticks of 512M DDR PC3200 (doesn't really matter which brand or timings [imo, as you don't have a top of the line machine anyways] so long as they're the same) first tho.

I expect you'd be able to pick up a nice performance boost (between 5 and 10 fps, depending on the settings).

PS- only once you're all sorted out and happy with the rig should you consider OC'ing.

PPS: what model of Asus is your Mobo?

PPPS: Asus Probe is a handy little application, despite it's er... awkward name.

Very short reply from me.

Looked for 2 matching RAM stickies... will cost me about 100 euro's, and therefor no-go at this moment. About the overclocking, I might want to do that, but I'm not very sure yet.

ATM I do not have time for some decent reply. I'm preparing for a trip to an airshow, including arrivals. Now they come in earlier, so I have to depart earlier.

I will be back on sunday (probably). Then, I'll reply decently and 're-open' this topic.

Untill then: THX everybody! See you later!

Everyone of those Icons on your desktop is using memory btw ;)

wow, is that right? (doh, stupid, stupid, frior-one must not question the great Roger (bang head into wall)

I will clean mine up, it's not as cluttered as TA's was but if it helps to squeeze every last frame out for my machine, i'll clear the frickin' lot!
