Hey Mates! I'm still roaming the Boards once in a blue moon. I'm getting a 2nd hand TM Warthog from a SimHQ member for me B-day. I'm really looking forward to it, but I was thinking I'd miss the force feedback of my trusty MSFFB... then I remembered this mod and as I still have the Logitech rumblepad I think I'll be taking a page from your book Crash Hope you're all well. Only 3 more years until I can fly online with you guys again

Neat! When I was a boy visiting my grandparents in SW France (in the '80s) the blockhouses of the Atlantic wall were still sitting in the sand dunes... Today, for the most part, they've fallen into the sea as a result of erosion, though a few remain inland, covered in graffiti, if you know where to look for them. Of course, north of the Gironde river, where the coastline is composed of earth or rock rather than sand, the blockhouses remain. Perhaps in two thousand years they will remain, as enigmatic to our descendants as the dolmen and menhir are to us... The amount of concrete poured by the Germans in Europe in '42-43 was absolutely phenomenal: the Wall used up over 17 million cubic metres of concrete and 1.2 million tonnes of steel. C_G

That is the MicroATX board (note the suffix -M) so unless you're planning to fit this into a MicroATX case you do NOT want that board. You would probably be fine with the plain-Jane P8P67 board to save some money. Basically you'd be giving up an e-SATA connection (one instead of two), a PCI x16 slot, and Intel LAN support... otherwise your board will be the same as the -Pro I have... I've never actually used those features and so I basically overpaid. Asus is a solid Mobo company. The overclocking utility made my OC a breeze... literally click of a button and it does it for you.

Flyboy, I have a very similar rig to what you are contemplating: Asus P8P67 Pro Rev. 3.0 i5 2500k (OC to 4.3 GHz) AMD 6970 8 GB DDR3 Win7 home 64 bit 450 GB VelociRaptor and I'm very happy with the performance. For what it's worth, that overclock to 4.3 GHz is on the STOCK Intel cooler and has been absolutely stable for over half a year... not a single hiccup. In fact, I have OC'd the CPU past the 4.5 GHz level but the temps climbed up to 80 celsius (still well within the operating parameters, but there's no need to push it). However, there really is no need for me to OC the CPU anymore... everything is extremely smooth at 4.3.

Thanks Crash, fortunately I have all the patches from 4.08 saved in a DL folder. It should be fairly easy to make a version patched to 4.101 C3PO r2d2 Angus

Hey everyone, I'm all patched up to 4.11 (don't have the patch for the 4.11 patch, but I'll do that tonight... with luck). I've been out of the IL2 '46 loop since 4.08m (!~!) just around the time the whole smorgasbord of mods started to come out... I have to admit I'm completely confused by what's out there, mod-wise, so I have a bunch of questions: 1- What, if any, mods do I have to have to fly coop with you guys? 2- Will mods for 4.10.1m work with 4.11 (i.e. can I just install any old mod that looks cool and expect it NOT to Fuxxor my install)? 3- Are there mod enablers like JSGME available for 4.11? 4- If there is a standard DDz mod pack, can I add on other mods to that? Thanks! EDIT: Just saw Fruitbat's excellent "Modding 4.11" thread! Seems to answer most of my questions...

Thanks Brando, I was a bit bummed that I can't quite get the second side switch in but I'll likely revisit that issue. Leaves a bit of a hole there. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with it so far. My curse of hamfistedness seems to have stayed dormant so far this project The gas guy cut through an electrical wire so my computer room was out of commission this afternoon so I started soldering. Not enough to test but If I can scrounge a couple of hours I should have it wrapped up for the handle. Time to start ordering the slider pots and thinking about how to configure the throttle-mix-pitch button box. cheers, C_G

I hadn't realized that the pots can share a common 5V+ and Ground (makes sense, just hadn't occurred to me). Instead of having 12 wires going from the pots to the BU0386, I can get away with 6! Great news, doing that will keep things much neater inside the casing. Hadn't realized my yoke was giving me the finger, LOL... Now I'll have to get that out of my head, which will probably reinforce the image rather than banishing it....

Don't know exactly what I did wrong but I couldn't get the shell to close up tightly with the second switch in. Since I added an additional switch to the bottom, I gave in to frustration. The gas company people are here drilling another hole into the side of our house, so I'm at home today and have to resist the temptation not to start soldering while the kids are gone... Must work.... Must WORK!!!!

Took another look at the stick. It certainly is the business! Those springs look like they're up to providing some serious centering tension. Great stuff Propnut.

So very VERY tempting... I especially like the throttle quadrant. My wife would never let me hear the end of it though.

Little progress report. I spent my spare time yesterday hacking holes for the buttons on the centre part and on the sides of the yoke handles (happier with the former than the latter... it was difficult making clean cuts in the handle sides, and I was getting tired, and my blade was getting duller). All that remains is to spend 5 minutes with the drill to punch one large and two small holes in the centre facing. I'm pretty happy with the button placement. There was space for a second button on the bottom so I added that. I also added the extra lengths of wire to the plugs for the 6 Row pins and 6 Column pins, and cut and stripped the ends off a bunch of same coloured wire so that when the time comes for soldering I can do it in a fairly quick and orderly manner (essential as I can't leave the soldering iron around for curious fingers to touch). Overall good progress, though everything is still a mess.... in fact more of a mess now that I have a medusa of three-foot long tangling wires dangling from the BU0386. Next steps are buying a glue gun at noon, drilling the holes for the centre buttons tonight and positioning and hot-gluing the buttons that require it. Time permitting I'll solder up the wires too. From what I understand, the 10 and 12 bit Bodnar's don't need diodes if you are only going to use momentary switches. Only for toggle switches, rotary switches, or encoders the diodes (or the BU0386X) are necessary. (look at me, neophyte talking like I know it all... LOL) I've always wanted to extend my shaft. Er..... let me rephrase that.... I've always wanted a more realistic flight control stick. There, that's better Best of luck getting back to it Shadrach. Was there anything in particular that stalled the project? Maybe Brando, or FT, or MT or someone else might have an idea to get you back on track C_G
