Blairgowrie
Yesterday, when I tried to start the game on my back up computer I got the Microsoft screen which says " il2 exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." Tried downloading the 4.08exe from our website and replacing it in game but when I right clicked and tried to delete the shortcut, the Microsoft message appears again and I can't delete anything. Spent some time this morning running Easy Cleaner which deletes unwanted entries from the registry. Although it was able to find lots of files to delete, the delete function would not work. I thought I would try going into safe mode but when I tried hitting F8 on reboot, it continued on to Wndows. When I forwarded
delta7
do you have a ghost backup or restore point for this computer - if so I would roll back to your last backup/restore point and take it from there
Blairgowrie
That is a great idea Dave. I didn't think of that. I don't have Norton Ghost on it but I will try System Restore.
BBloke
Jim, best you can do is give me access to that machine.
Blairgowrie
Hi Chris, All set up and ready to go. Password is the same as last time. It's the country I now live in with a Capital C. I'll hang out on TS. BTW I tried two systems restores before I saw your message and the problem is still there. I am going to buy Windows anyway. Don't like this strange stuff. Crash
Hello BG. As my wife now has a new laptop, I have a spare (legit) OEM version of XP home last activated 2 years ago so it should be OK. I have swapped motherboards 2 times in the last 2 years and it validated OK
Blairgowrie
Thanks very much for the offer Crash. I may take you up on it but for now I think my hack will work. In the meantime, wizard Bloke, through the wonders of Ultra VNC, did his usual magic and fixed the problem. He is not really sure how but fix it he did. Many thanks Chris for all the time you spent today. I really appreciate your help on this.
