Yeah Hostgator (our hosting company) screwed up.

Although we are paid up for another year, for both hosting and Domain Name reg, their system decided to orphan 'dangerdogz.com'.

To their credit they fixed it very quickly once they became aware of the issue, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place...

41 minutes from my raising the ticket to it being resolved is not too bad, but the site was down for quite a few hours before I became aware.

Transcript of a 'chat' I had with them:

Allen: Please wait while I check.

Roger: I get 'Error: This domain name is expired and cannot be updated'

Allen: I see.

Allen: For this particular issue you will need to submit a support ticket at http://support.hostgator.com or through email at sales@hostgator.com

Roger: I have raised a ticket, I'm concerned site is off line and data may be lost. all without warning.

Allen: What is your ticket number?

Roger: YEI-719851

Allen: One moment please.

Roger: Thanks Allen..I'm having a wee panic here!

Allen: I understand. I've bumped it to the highest priority we have. Please wait for a sales admin's response in regards to this issue.

Roger: OK. Shouldn't this have renewed automatically?

Allen: Yes, normally it should renew automatically. There might be something wrong with the account.

Roger: I know funds are available, but I have had no emails or communication..

Allen: I don't see that you have any open invoices.

Allen: You are all paid up.

Roger: :) So why?! I'm reconfiguring all pointers to dangerdogz to k9squadrons.com so my users have access again.

Allen: I honestly don't know where the problem is nor can I fix it. A sales admin can fix that for you.

Roger: OK Allen, I've got some useability back, thanks for your help

Allen: You're welcome. Have a good day. =)
