having just recently experienced the same thing I can offer this......... Did it crash hard, so to speak (ie:did you re-format?) If not, did you use MS office OUTLOOK for mail (or outlook express)? If so, look in the following location for OUTLOOK: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst Or here for Outlook Express: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E820821D-62D9-4081-965A-4B80A4902837}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ Change the bits in Bold Red text to match what you have (the last bit E820821D-blah-blah-blah) is a randomly generated string (Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird do the same.) Those are the files to look for.

soooo, if no activex...what do you do when you go somewhere that needs it? and your pretty sure it is safe to load? have I hammered everybody with enought dumb request in the past 24 Hrs? Just trying to boost my post count....lol

office 2000...but my "disk" apprears to have a glitch

alright I'll get it as soon as this re-install is finished. Trying to track down another copy of MS office right now. As far as protection is concerned (free) This is what I am installing right now... AVG (free) Malwarebytes anitmalware (free) Adaware (free) Spybot S&D (free) and I also have regcure (registered) I am also using a Linksys Router. Any other suggestions? I tend not to let some of those above programs run in the background/automatically as they may slow down my pc (spybot can be annoying when trying to install programs).

thanks...ive gone ahead and re-installed windows on my "C" partitiion with no problems. I've tried to re-install MS office with my "backup" CD (so to speak)

that is currently what I have.........a 250 gig partitioned with the OS and office suite on C: (40gigis) and everything else (documents/data/photos/games) on the larger partition D: (210gigs)

Roger, Just to be clear......I have only ONE physical drive..... Just partitioned into a C: drive and a D: drive (40/210 gig split)

ummm yeah...I think I did. I could delete any thread/post I wanted....could lock/unlock posts and I was alway notified when someone new joined the pack, so to speak.

yeah I know...I have an externall HDD...I did do a full backup (but that was in the spring).

Things went from bad to worse yesterday............. It finally wouldnt even boot into windows for me..........had to do a windows re-install/format quazi thingy. Had most games and files including photos in D: drive, but windows and any files on c: are kaput..... Including my e-mails and folders (all gone......) do not have norton ghost, and the last backup of anything on my C: drive including the windows directory was in the springtime so with the next install I think it is gone gone......the history of sent/received emails is gonna hurt, especially if I need to refer to them for something (passwords/confirmations/etc) On a side note......since this re-install I dont seem to have the same functionality on this site

nope that line doesnt appear...it will on my other pc but not on this one....Ive checked and the "information bar" is still turned on.
