Just Found This On An Old Memory Stick..........(Video)
FoolTrottel replied to Friar's topic in Jim's Place
I'm sure I heard him ... ! Grand show! "A James Dean Video" ... Dino created it? Who were flying those things? Colin in the Hurri, that's obvious ... Is it Painless in the 110? Think he's the only one with that skin / using it / used it? -
Happy Birthday BG!

Here's some stuff that can be used to build a sub-mission for our CloD server. First off, these notes: - Time, weather, clouds etc. are not relevant, so do not try and change them. (As these are sub-missions. Main mission determines these items) - Do not try and add or edit a script. For now, this is way too complex, specifically as these are sub-missions. Main mission takes care of it. 1. On the Normal Map: Relatively small missions, upto about 16 aircraft max. Our CloD server works by running a single Map file, and during the running of that map (9 hrs at the moment) randonly sub-missions are being loaded. We currenlty have 67 sub-mission files, but more are always welcome. The BaseMap holds all the spawn points / bases, frontline markers, Radar, a lot of AAA etc. Everything one may need in the environment. Here's our BaseMap for the current 9hr Server cycle: DD-BaseBBMap.mis You can download it, and have a look at it, so you can tell what your target area looks like, whether it needs more objects. Do not change this map file, as I have the standard version, I will edit it. (Suggestions for improvements are always welcome) Now here's a more interesting file: the DD-P-Template.mis: DD-P-Template.mis Download this, load it into the Full Mission Builder, first thing to do is save it under a different name, try and use DD-P-<Aircraft><Action><Target>.mis (like DD-P-HeinkelsAttackCroydon.mis). DD-P- is 'mandatory', it shows it is a 'Part' file, to be loaded durng the running of the Normal Base Map. Files will be recognizable by their name this way. Start putting in aircraft, your choice whether they take off, or airspawn. Add their waypoints, let them go high or low, attack or patrol. Please do try and assign them a Squadron name, so they will be waering interesting markers. Most of the sub-missions currently only contain one Army, either Red or Blue. However, you are free to try and program any fight you like in your mission. Give bombers an escort, let defenders attack the force... just try and keep the aircraft numbers limited to max 16. You are also free to add ground objects, trouble there is you kinda need to make sure they do not interfere with objects on the base map Test your mission, by saving it, and then select Play Mission from within the FMB. Make sure external views are on in the difficulty settings, and also the map icons. Let it run, watch it. Use time compression when needed. 2. On the EventMap The idea here is to use a specific EventBaseMap (One sided, only Red or only Blue spawnpoints, rest is basically the normal BaseMap) on which one can programm one larger mission, like a historical one, with more aircraft in it. Here's the RedEventMap, it holds only Red SpawnPoints: DD-EventMapRed.mis (A Blue one is still in the works) Just think of how it all could have happened, recreate it, where the ideal version will only have one sided AI, and we, the DangerDogz, play the other side. Sure, you cán add AI to both sides, if you think it neccesary, or adds to the fun. Here's the DD-B-Template.mis file: DD-B-Template.mis To keep the mission contents as a surprise to anyone, no need to use a specific name here, but please keep the DD-B- at the start, so we can tell it is a 'Big Un' One more 'rule' Please use these values for Skill setting of the AI aircraft: (Use copy / paste after you've setup all flights into your mission file, using NotePad.) ;BomberSkills Skill 0.79 0.32 0.63 0.37 0.32 0.37 0.42 0.79 ;FighterSkills Skill 1 0.47 0.47 0.32 0.11 0.47 0.47 0.16 And here's the drill for absolutely first time mission builders, who can build a mission now, as basically, you only need to put the aircraft on the map, and set their waypoints. The rest, no need to worry about that, it's been taken care of! 1. Click 'Extra', 'Full Mission Builder' 2. File Load, 'DD-P-Template.mis' 3. Click File, Save As, and save it under a name you think of, keep DD-P- at the start! 4. Select 'View', 'Object Browser' 5. In the Object Browser, select 'Aircraft' in the top box. And the desired type in the lowest box. 6. Move your mouse over the map, untill you have arrived at the point where your first aircraft/flight will start. 7. Click the Insert key, you will see a colored dot appear on the map, your very first WayPoint! 8. In the 'Group Properties' tab of the Object Browser, you can assign an Army, Squadron etc. And adjust the number of aircraft (default is just one) by increasing the numbers at flight 0, flight 1, etc. 9. Set other properties to your liking, for bombers, lower the fuel load so they are not overweight (Well, maybe you can use overweight in an airspawn?) 10. Use Tab 'Waypoint' to set what the flight has to do at that point, set speed and altitude. 11. When done, put the mouse on the map where the next Waypoint should be, and press 'Insert'. Voîla ... Keep on doing that for the entire flight path... Do not forget to save the mission at regular intervals. Use 'File, Play mission' to see whether it works out as you intended. Keep tuning, Keep saving, Sure there's much more to it ... but basically ... this is all! Have Fun!

So, a first test run showed the big mission event may work ... So, next time, = mind you, not neccesarily next session = we shall try again, and I shall try and remember to switch off the map icons and aircraft icons .... Thanks for testing that big shift! (Very good show though, to see some six to eight Spitfires in formation. ... )

Some more changes applying to the 'Event Map': - Battle area extended to all of the map (Same as SOW), will also be on our normal 9hr mission.) - Added some more Red bases/spawnpoints - Removed all Blue spawnpoints (this is for the Red-Event map, there might be a Blue-Event map too, later on) - Set all Red spawnpoints using the following a/c * Aircraft.BlenheimMkIV * Aircraft.DH82A * Aircraft.SpitfireMkIa_100oct * Aircraft.BlenheimMkIVF * Aircraft.HurricaneMkI_100oct ....

Fenrir, Those are brilliant ideas, but way ahead of my knowlegde of that programming language in CloD... All of it should be possible, but it's out of my reach. I'm afraid we'll have tokeep it all very simple, similar to IL2.... by creating each and every misson singly, and by hosting different ones create diversion and 'surprise'. Yeah, too bad, lots of work it is! Unless... who wants to be a programmer and is a good and fast learner?

Keeping this thread running and active, just to mention stuff I come accross, and to ask for questions and opinions. (Opinions on the matter at hand, not just random ones please ) So, suppose it's early morning, you are on readiness, you spawn in, pick a plane warm it up and sit there, with your other squadron members. (You have a laugh as your wingman slips climbing on the wing of his fighter, as it's still wet from the morning dew) You banter, and banter, some will risk their ailerons, wingtips and props on a grand flying show ... After some ten or so minutes of waiting, the first Radar messages pop up, but the stuff they report is still way over on the other side of the channel. Now, it will still take a while before you can tell where to intercept them. Well, yeah, you need to make sure whether it ís a raid bound for England ... or maybe not. Your leader maybe will take you up there. And take up a patrol area. Even split the squad up into two groups. Is this: A. Boring! B. Dull, cool, but good fun (One still can horse around the airfield, can one not?) C. Yep, like it. Bring it on. D. No, can't handle the suspense ... (But that's just me, as I can't even watch any Hitchcok movie...) E. Whatever, let's just go! F. Stop this, I can do a much better job!

So, our CloD server is running along nicely, playing a nine hour mission - 7 AM to 4 PM - then restarts. In a session, out of 67-sub-missions, a random selection is being loaded, at random intervals, currently between 3 and 7 minutes. Map-Icons are on! Makes kinda sure there's always something for you to hunt down, where ever you may spawn... All nice and fine for some leisure flying, shooting along, landing at closest base, picking a fresh aircraft and go get at it again... Yet, there must be something more extra special that we could do with our server and CloD. At the moment, we do not have an option of creating Coops, as there is no way to control the AI, we can program the aircraft to 'be there', and we can jump into their cockpits and fly the plane, the remainder of the flight will be AI and kinda helpless, and do exactly what it's been told in the mission, ergo, they fly along, even if their leader is human. They will not listen. Too bad... So, basically, it's down to programming Blue AI - like currently is being done - and us Red go take off and patrol, and listen to the radar calls... I plan to programme bigger flights of aircraft in one go, all together, based on real events ... (anybody got a detailed resource on LW missions back in the day?) The raid on Southhampton on the Spitfire factories would be a nice one, although it largely went undetected, and for a defensive force not so interesting... then again, there was a diversion attack of some 80 Junkers somewhere over Kent... yeah 80 coukd lead to performance issues.. So, what would work? I'm thinking out loud here, just letting the thoughts go... What if... We create an event. (so, shutdown the nine hour cycle, and restart the server, with a password on it. And, there's a brief. Or maybe not, and there's simply some messages in big red characters on the screen... Brief be like: Spawn in at Hornchurch, create a flight of Spitfires and of Hurricanes. Take off and patrol the area of X to Y, Spitfires at highest level, patrolling the out skirts of the perimeter, Hurricanes a bit further back. Once contact is being made, go and attack, Hurricanes need to be put at a nice intercept course. Or Like: Scramble at Manston, the enemy is close, take off, save the aircraft, take them to a place safe from the enemy attacking. Or Like: Spawn in at Gravesend, take Spitfires, warm the engines up, and wait... you are on stand by ... get Ready. Then, at sometime in the mission (lol ... like 30 minutes ) a message will popup ... Scramble, head out to ABC at alt xxxx angels. And next... no radar messages... Hm, come to think of it, this should al be very well possible, it's just like starting the correct mission at the correct time... Oh, yeah, and make the mission, that too. So, nothing much different from 1946 hey.... So, could this work? We may need to put in tricks like air spawn, like the long DF's... Oh, yeah, what else do you think could be fun? (Anybody else out here that kinda knows how to throw a mission together?) Oh, wait, this is the most important question I got: anybody got any detailed resource on LW missions back in the day?

Very nice video... all them Spits!

Creating a big Blue Mission: - 27 Heinkels will Bomb Biggin Hill - 12 BF-110C's will escort - 12 109's will escort. All at some 20k feet. Some screenshots from a test-run: View from a Blenheim en route: Views from externals in the air: View from the ground at Biggin Hill. Now, would this be good target to immerse yourself as being a hero RAF Pilot back in them days?

As of Today, a bombing target practice area has been setup. Location is F13, np 3 Picture: Now call this a Beta, as I just built it up, but have not dropped any bombs on it. Whether it is usable at high alt? I do not know, it may or may not be visible. It's been inspired by this picture, of a real practice target: Anyways, you should be able to go in low level, aim at a square or building (there's nine buildings SE of the 'ship') and see what goes BOOM! Notes: Whether or not you will be killing friendly targets, and getting kicked off of the server, I do not know. Who knows, German AI might attack it Just try it, see what it does.... and let me know whether it needs any changes...

Realistic? You kiddin'? Whenever and however would any sane pilot in combat with a git on his tail dive a bridge? And, whatever stoopid git on the tail will follow him? No way, sorry. Oh, I get it, you áre kiddin'.... Pearl Harbor 4 the win, hey?

Delete the file named 'last.quick', in subfolder 'Quicks'... and you'll be good to go...
-
It does, doesn't it .... If only our game(s) would run like simple and easy on Linux ...
-
See, this is what I meant... Whether it was an issue with your specific key or not... you did need a new one... After a major HW change. Oh well...

Happy Birthday SharkÉ !!
-
Note that I only mentioned the changing of CPU and/or HD ... only those two will/may lead to licensing issues ...
-
You have? Brilliant, that shows all the stuff I hear about the matter is not true!
-
Chances are that won't work as MS knows you've upgraded your license to 10 already ...
