Hm, I will probably be calling you Dave, Gary ... Sorry, to the four of y'all
-
wow ... amazing... ("Is this modeled in DCS"?)
-
Hello Gary! 1. Checked! 2.Checked! For some sessions we use limited icons, we do use 'complex engine management' 3.Checked! Well, there's a 'Hey, mind your language!' call out on TS every now and then. 3.Checked! Our average age is estimated to be 58. We claim to be very good pilots though ... ground pounders and transports we do use. Some of us. (Our calculations regarding average scores or ages is not very good.) We are mostly NA and EU time zone though! We have one active aussie member, who gets up rather early to join our EU sessions. When I wake up, every now and then I see him on TS with the NA group. (We already have a 'Gary' in our group, so as to avoid issues with communication, we may need to call you 'Dave', as we already have two active members that go by the name 'Dave'. ) 😎

PWCG P-38 Lightning Strikes Co-op Campaign
FoolTrottel replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
402nd Attacked targets at Emmerich, triple AA and transport. Estimated some 35 pieces destroyed. As we still had some bombs left, we ventured south and attacked AA guns and field artillery. Red 2 - dd_Jabo got hit by flak, nursed a/c to Ophoven base. He landed safely there. Rest of us (4 a/c) landed at home base. Good show 402nd! -
DCS Radials - P-47, I-16 and Fw 190 pilots take note!
FoolTrottel replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in DCS Series
Ah, so, this could be why I regularly and mysteriously make the I-16's engine lose power? But, he mentions this twice: "not sure if DCS models this" And this "1" MP per 100 RPM rule of thumb." is not helpful in the I-16, as it not do MP in inches! Anyways, I'll lower revs in a dive, and keep some throttle open ... Thanks! -
Do not fire that gun when you're in an embankment on the range ...
-
This is the result of clearing the gun range area: So, this was done in 90 minutes. Me thinks one needs a gun like the Ferdinand has... (Not to be used as a reference - Friar has done some changes to the range ... so...)
-
Alternatively, I could have the mission restarted once per hour? Though that might be too short for Town Skirmishesness? Maybe put it on the back burner for now, and whether it is an issue at all....
-
This one was running for 6 hours, then restarted. I've decreased that to three hours - reason: If someone (sweper!) joins the tank range, he/she might clear it out completely, leaving nothing for others that join later! Or... Is there a different way to reset it? Destroy a target on the opposite side (behind the players tank?) that triggers a respawn? Hm, lots of work probably, result may not be worth the effort...

Perfect show 402nd! Eight a/c took off, and eight a/c landed back at home. Lots of damage was done to enemy targets. Great job on flying Formation! Proud ! -
Lessons Learned From First Multi-Mission Tank Event
FoolTrottel replied to Friar's topic in Tank Crew
Regarding free roaming on the map : I do have the impression that if the brief states 'there's your target' and people drop in at the start point, well, that limits the roaming free is it? If one reads the map, roads will still dictate the route. Rivers and bridges will... Maybe too much hassle? I dunno ... As for 'not to have lots and lost of AI units active on the map' do we have an idea on numbers? For sure, that's very relevant. How many did you have in the latest missions? They did perform very nicely ... Edit: That put-tank-on-train is a nice idea... very nice! -
PWCG P-38 Lightning Strikes Co-op Campaign
FoolTrottel replied to DD_Fenrir's topic in IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series
Yes there is. As I made that file named #2 one that will be suppressed / deleted by ChkSkins. We do not want two files that are basically the same like all over the place, now do we? So, delete your orignal, and re-run ChkSkins ... all will be good. Even ppl that do not have your new skin, will still see the old version. Beats having the blank/default skin, if they have not updated/download the latter one ... and... the download that Chris offers is named without the #2 ... so people that downloaded it, and not use ChkSkins will not have your #2 ... Sorry, but I just do not like them doubles ... oh, yeah, you are right, I should be more flexible... I know I know... but... -

First delete the file P38J25\402nd__E6_J_Jabo.dds, then run ChkSkins - it only compares file names, not dates or versions! -
Lessons Learned From First Multi-Mission Tank Event
FoolTrottel replied to Friar's topic in Tank Crew
Good show Colin... ! In general I do agree with all of the items... They do not seem new though - it's basically very much the same when flying, is it not?' >>For missions which are planned to cover a large distance need regular points of conflict to keep the action going.<< Not sure here. If one does behave carefully, one would always be on the look out, regularly stopping, and scanning the area in front. So, it could be correct to travel a 'large distance' without any points of conflict? This still is 'action' in my opinion - it's rather different than flying a patrol, where dots can be seen very early and an ambush situation is rather impossible. Suggestion: Lose the blue/yellow-line-to-follow option: Let the tanks themselves find the their own/best way to their target - This add to the immersion - I think - Yeah you'd probably need to add more stuff on the ground? >>The consequences of being killed should have a higher impact, without detracting from a players enjoyment of the event.<< Reduce the number of re-spawn points? Mind you: I have not got a clue on battle ground tactics ... Some wild idea: * Use different types of thanks in one mission, different roles to play: A light fast tank as opposed to one of them guns-on-tracks? -
1. It should not be there at all. If it is there, the mklink command will not work. 2. Not really relevant, you only need to run it once Edit: ah, I now realize I forgot to mention this little detail, lol. Sorry!

Cools - looks all like wireless and shift!

Just yesterday I've applied a different trick to save some disk space: Use a link to point the 'liveries' folder from my Stable version, to the one of the Beta version. (within the Saved Games folder structure) First delete the liveries folder from the Stable one (maybe first move its content over to the Beta one if you like/need/want to), and next, this command does it all: mklink /j "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Saved Games\DCS\liveries" "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\liveries" (If you copy paste this command into a .cmd file, you only need to change the path names of DCS and DSC.openbeta to the names you use. If you copy paste it in to a dos box/command prompt, you need to replace the %USERNAME% bit with your actual username.) The stable versions liveries folder now shows up like this: When opened, you end up in the Beta versions' liveries folder. So now there's only one folder to put skins into : This mklink command has been discussed on these forums before, regarding the use of 1946's paintschemes folders across the diffferent versions... but back in the days I did not want to use it, too confusing for me - here I think it's less complex... lol
