  1. Thanks guys. I was on me 'ollidayz Mick! Arthur, I do understand your reasoning and I was of the same opinion before I got there. I even took my gloves with me and wore them for the first 30mins… I did wear trainers every time though. To be honest it was too hot for anything else and the speeds we were doing, were not much more than what I get up to on my road bicycle which I wear even less for! Also, the traffic over there never reaches the speeds of over here in blighty, there's simply no need. That said, I wouldn't dream of doing the same over here, I always go out the door fully kitted up on my SV, regardless if the heat.
  2. They haven't had much luck with it have they? This is what, it's third post restoration flight in 10 years?
  3. Impressive editing and production for sure. But weren't these two legends, high altitude fighters?
  4. Hello gents, Last week I spent 4 nights on the wonderful island of Malta. It was a last minute trip with a buddy and we decided the best way to tour the island(s) would be by scooter. Boy were we right! Not only was it a welcome break from the daily grind, but also another fantastic historical pilgrimage. Having recently finished reading Fenrir's copy of 'Malta: The thorn in Rommel's side' I was intrigued to visit some of the key places of interest that are talked about in the book. I have uploaded all my holiday snaps to Flickr where, among the random pictures of beer, ice cream and scooters you'll see the Grand Harbour, Royal Opera House ruins, Seige Bell memorial and Lascari's War Rooms of Valletta, along with the air musuem at former RAF Takali and more. It was an incredible few days, with some breathtaking sights, delicious food, wonderfully friendly people, wall to wall sun and truly awful 'roads' haha. For those who have not yet visited this little gem in the Mediterranean, I heartily recommend it! If you're interested, you can view the pictures here. Also, I put together a little video of our fun on the scooters
  5. I believe it's all about timing and money of course. The first step was the airworthy merlins, which they now have a stock of (5 I think). They've been doing large sections of overhaul during the winter maintenances, with the next major hurdle requiring a full strip down. The trouble with that is it will probably spend a year not bringing in the revenue taxiing and offering rides. Slowly slowly catch a monkey as they say.
  6. This just gave me the shivers...

Oooooh I'm looking at this tonight
  9. Also, the copilot/bombardier co-op controllability is going to be a fantastic addition. For me especially, I quite like the challenge sometimes of flying these heavies, but I wouldn't know where to begin with a bomb sight! So to have an expert Dogz bomber on board would be a perfect solution
  10. Fixed very old online bug that caused wrong visual animation of engine states (with 2 ormore engines) It's the small details that please me sometimes!
  11. Well I'm here, weather is acceptable and I'm full of sausage and bacon! Let's get the show going
  12. Bad news guys During a local flight from Durham Tees Valley Airport this morning, the Canadian Lancaster performed a precautionary engine shutdown. The aircraft landed safely without incident. It is now hangared and is undergoing maintenance. Regrettably it will not attend the weekend events and advice will be given regarding other events.
  13. Well, i'll fly it! I'll fly anything haha
  14. I'm going in civvys! Also, might take a brolly...
  15. Gates open at 8.30, i'll be getting there for that time as we are driving. I've never had a problem finding somewhere to park in the past, however, the prospect of the 2 Lancs and also the Vulcan in attendance will most likely raise the numbers somewhat! The Spitfire Bar is usually smack behind the centreline of the display and is as good a place as any to meet.
  16. I think we have a new winner…
  17. We all win Jabo! What a marvellous and poignant sight.
  18. Right guys, i think you'll agree this video is the winner of this whole thread thus far...
  19. Many happy returns to the both of you!
  20. I spoke to Bear Snr a while ago, he's spending the day tinkering with a new rc model project. Reminds me I must upload some pictures of the 1/4 scale tiger moth build Happy Birthday again btw old chap
  21. Fake, although one could say inspired by a true story... Zlin wing Structural Failure Report - Neil Williams http://www.aerobatics.org.uk/repeats/zlin_wing_failure.htm
  22. The RNHF have not had a great deal of luck operating their Sea Furies over the years, but thankfully every prang as far as I'm aware, the pilots have walked away from. (Sadly, unlike their Firefly lost in '03) I've been following the thread on the key forums about the recent incident and it unearthed a fantastic documentary filmed by the flight themselves in the late 80s / early 90s all about the operation of their then T.20 WG655 (now with TFC at Duxford). For those of you with 90mins spare, I thoroughly recommend you watch this. It's a fantastic insight into the operation of these powerful beasts and also has footage I've never seen before of the loss of their original FB.11 with the pilot talking through his escape. Bear with the dodgy sound during the first 10mins, it's worth it! http://youtu.be/nAUc_A3ibxw
  23. Can't you put that beast of a machine on auto gps harvest for one day Kev?
