  1. Am I missing something here?

    I have 'center VR view' mapped to the hat switch on my joystick.  I used to have the same thing mapped for center TrackIr view - or something similar.

    Whenever i spawn in a plane and want to move my head position I simply move my head and then hit center view on my hat switch and.....that's it:)

  2. I simply wave it around vaguely and hey presto

    Thats one smart light meter working away here.  Not to mention the colour balance.  To do this with my Canon requires tripod and some rather clumsy third party software but even then it would be obvious it's several piccies stitched together.

    I recently took some shots of the latest 'supermoon'.  I had to read the manual for ten minutes to remember how to step the exposure down and then I needed to use my software to try and tease out the detail.

    My mate merely held his phone up and ........:o

  3. @Crash and Jabo;  it's not the processing software I'm lacking.  Just the realisation of how sophisticated the software in a mobile phone is these days in terms of exposure control, autofocus functions, etc.

    Friend of mine is a very keen photographer and he's got a .......er.......a big one.  Samsung Galaxy something or other and he's stopped taking his DSLR out as he gets better results with the camera on his phone.

    ....... it was the sash window Sidney scandle ???

    I'm not sure what that means?  Is it;

    a) He opened the sash window in your room to let a bunch of free-loaders kip on the floor?

    b) He opened the sash window in the night 'cause he couldn't find a sink to pee into?

    c) He opened the sash window to kick a snoring FT out of it?

    . I sold Painles my old overclocked to 5 Ghz CPU (i7 4790K  4.4Ghz with Gelid Tranquillo Heatsink/fan ) after 2 years use 2 years ago and its still fine.

    I'm using PropNuts old i7 3930k which has spent nearly all it's nine year old life running at over 4 Ghz. from the stock 3.2:)

    ebay is always worth a watch.

    Slightly off-topic but if Painless has that cpu and I believe he's running a 1070 also then he'll be fine to drive an ebay Occulus Rift too.

    Hmmm......starting to realise the software running the camera in my old and battered hand-me-down iphone5 is rather more sophisticated than wots stuffed inside my Canon DSLR.....

    Wow, if someone had said at that table... “ in ten years time we will all be under house arrest because of a virus” we would all have ordered more drinks and picked a fight with the Germans while we had the chance ! 🤣🤪

    Thats strange. I seem to remember that evening finishing by drinking scotch with JP and a rather drunk German guy who suggested we should get together and fight the French!

    When JP asked him "So what was it like......loosing twice....?" I knew it was time to crash out:P

    So, I have been tuning and trying to OC-as well due to this thread, went from 4.6Ghz (which my Pc has been running for a long time) up to 5GHz, but next back to Stock 4.3, as the only difference I saw was in temps, not in performance.... lol

    I don't think higher cpu clocks make that much difference after a certain level if you are driving a monitor.  It might perhaps help in career missions where you can encounter lots of a.i. driven planes.

    I recall on my old system getting over 3.6GhZ was what made a difference.  Big, high-res. screen performance is obviously a gpu thing but for VR a high clock speed makes all the difference. Going from 4 upto 4.6 gives me an appreciable difference. As did turning off hyper-threading.

    However, there is a lot that can be done in game too that really helps it along.

  9. I use a couple of little apps to monitor and test things that you probably know about Crash;

    https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

    This is handy for stress testing your cpu to find out what it's doing.

    https://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

    I watch the effect on temps and cpu speeds with this.

    The CPU won't run at it's maximum all the time but will ramp up the speed as required.  If you do the cpu stress test in cpu-z with core temps running you should be able to see this.

    I'm still using my trusty Occulus CV1 too so I'll have a delve into what settings I'm running that on in IL2 later on and post 'em here.

    Status update:

    I have been having issues spawning a max attendance (8+) mission without having P-38s spawned inside each other. I did some messing about in one of the files and generated a new mission based on this edit and lo and behold I have 16 P-38s evenly split between the two squadrons and airframes are tightly arranged but importantly no occlusions between aircraft whatsoever. I am reluctant to claim victory as yet because this could be a fluke - so this requires further testing.

    Wow!  Well done Fen!:goodjob: Been watching your thread over at the GBS forum.
