So…
Colin and I tested out the Grayflag Syria COIN server yesterday.
Pros: everyone on there seemed to be there for the right reasons, coordinating as best they could and pushing objectives; the core architecture works well and seems to do what it’s supposed to in terms of functionality and logging and progressing the map accordingly, also regular AI interceptors performing QRA launches to keep things interesting A2A.
Cons: Laggy. Very laggy. Regular stutters and pauses for me throughout our 2-3 hours online and no improvement over time. Was killed in a low altitude BFM engagement when a 1-3 second pause resulted in a loss of control and a subsequent crash into terrain.
Worth trying their PG map as perhaps the combination of Syria plus all their scripts plus server ping was to blame; PG might be lighter on demands…

I echo your last, think a few would benefit froma reminder of how to best utilise it. For what we do in the Dogz, it's not that pertinent but almost all other MP server utilise it so being able to use it will help you should you want to see what the grass is like in the wider DCS multiplayer universe.
It is a great piece of tech and having used it exclusively for comms with CVW-17, once you have it suitcased it's a very reliable and useful tool and is very immersive.

I suggested t'other night the possibility of investigating Grayflag server.
To provide some further info, Grayflag is brought to you by Graywo1f (voice of JesterAI) and Grimes (core-engine-development-via-DCS-Scripting and curator of SLmod and MIST).
Grayflag is a hardcore persistent multiplayer Coop campaign, with campaigns available on Syria, Persian Gulf and Mariannas maps.
Experience a moving front line as BLUEFOR have a number of progessive objectives to capture across each map. The enemy (AI) forces will attempt to resupply and reinforce their positions and even launch counter offensives, as players attempt to push the front line farther into enemy territory.
As you and your teammates set up BLUEFOR ground units to invade/capture objectives or defend with CTLD troops/vehicles, you won't have to worry about them disappearing after a server restart or crash! Their position will be saved when the server restarts and you log back into this persistent battlefield.
Grayflag is a player driven campaign in an open ended sandbox. You and your friends will fight how you want to fight to complete the objectives while utilizing your own tactics and mission planning to strike targets across the entire map. The enemy will do its best to react to the changing battlefield as you and your friends complete taskings/objectives. This mission features the Combined Arms module by allowing the player to bring whatever they want to the fight. Have a few player helicopters bring you a mortar squad next to an objective? Want a friendly SAM network set up to cover an area? Go for it, and it will all save in the mission state.

Optical Sight improvements and fixes:
- The Optical Sight target symbol doesn’t disappear anymore when it is near its movement limits.
- The Optical Sight attitude reticle displayed part is limited now by ~75 degrees of total angle in pitch (it is the physical display limit of the pitch ribbon).
- Optical Sight 'Normal' and 'Simplified' attitude scales are implemented on a single ribbon now, with a visible animation when the scale type is changed.
- Implemented animated transition between the 'radar command bar' and the 'gun firing reticle' symbols. These symbols are physically placed on the same reticle ('Moving reticle').

Mission: Artillery Strike
Result:
The squadron proceeded to target area. As we approached the frontline but still someways from it, Red 1 sighted a bandit crossing his nose, slightly below, going North to South. ID'd as a 109. Squadron engaged with Red trying to draw bandits attention whilst White flight took him down. After much swirling Red 3 managed to damage the e/a when White 1 managed to saddle up and dispatched the bandit with a well aimed burst to the cockpit.
Squadron regrouped and continued to target area where as the target was sighted, though partially obscured by cloud. As Red 1 commenced a diving turn to Port to try and setup an attack run unencumbered by the cloud cover, Red 2 spotted a pair of bogeys to the East. Red flight set up their attack run as White flight attempted to move to intercept and ID the bogeys, which turned out to be 109s. The e/a avoided the intercept and bore in on Red flight.
Red flight made a succuessful attack run, destroying many field guns and AAA. However, Red 1 was attacked by e/a coming off target, he was wounded and set on fire, managing to just cross the river and over friendly lines before bailing out. White 2 was damaged by flak but both the e/a were dispatched by Red 3 and White 1 respectively.
The remainder of the squadron flew North to a secondary Fortification target where 2 further aircraft were observed covering the taget area. These turned out to be Me 262, White 1 flaming one in a fantastic high angle deflection shot, and the other being heavily damaged by White 2 and last seen leaving the area at high speed venting fluids.
Unfortunately Red 3 was hit by intense light flak during his attack run, and he too was only able to nurse his bird back to friendly lines before he was obliged to bail out. Red 4 was lost trying to neutralise the AAA guns, his aircaft seen to explode almost on top of a light flak gun site he had been attacking.
White 2, having suffered damage force landed at a friendly airfield, and White 1 and Red 2 retuned to base, Red 2 also having recieved some light damage to his aircraft.
3 friendly aircraft destroyed (2 pilots recovered safely by parachute, 1 KIA), 1 friendly aircraft force landed damaged near Cologne, 1 further friendly aircrafy landed at base damaged.

TRAP 136 (‘Green’) and TRAP 137B (‘Red’) radios fixes:
- TRAP-136 radio (‘Green’). Fixed incorrect operation of the radio function selector switch at cold start.
- TRAP-136 radio (‘Green’). Fixed inoperative radio at cold cockpit start up, when the frequency was selected before the radio was powered on.
- TRAP-136 radio (‘Green’). Selection of the Frequency mode selector 'G' position will not enable the guard receiver anymore. Use 'Pal+G' Function selector position to enable the guard receiver.
- Fixed both 'Red' and 'Greed' radios function selector switches operation with autostart/autostop macros.
Optical Sight fixes:
- Fixed a bug with wrong gunsight diameter, when entering A/G mode with VEL Optical Sight mode enabled.

Changed Optical Sight Velocity Scale display logic:
- In '(C + M or SW) R' mode the Target Aspect Angle is displayed.
- With short range missiles selected and not in '(C + M or SW) R' mode - the Target Closure Velocity is displayed.
General missile logic:
- Wingtip missiles can now only be fired with a lock.
- After review of available sources, Magic 1 and 2 missiles launch delays were reduced to 310 ms.
- Added radar missile locked and masked tones.
Flight control system and AP fixes:
- Yaw damper logic reworked: runaway yaw damper issue and oscillation in transonic fixed. Work on improving the behavior in wake turbulence is underway.
- Fixed AP integral lateral command problems: AP can work with significant asymmetric payloads now.
- AP ALT mode engagement is much more smooth now.
- It's no longer possible to connect the AP at all when disconnection conditions are being met.
- Solved AP disconnection issues with FFB.
3D model and textures:
- Fixed Mirage F1 EE AOA color band lights.
- Fixed Mirage F1 EE accelerometer reset animation.
- Fixed right wing pylon. It is identical to the left wing one, instead of being both symmetrical.
- Added missing SIL label to UHF radio unit.
- Fixed animation of the anemometer speed bug.
- Fixed several fuel and radar lights in the Mirage F1 EE.
