  1. Lovely, that mirror polished P-38 looks great, it'll be a treat to see it in July. Now I'll definitely be camped at the airfield on the Friday - probably on the bank up by the LWH or at the AirSpace end On a more sombre note, I saw Hoof flying the P-38 in '96 only a couple of weeks before the crash at Dux. Very sad. Jabo
  2. The recent sas modact (2.72) for straight 4.10.1 (ie not derived via UP) includes jsgme Jabo
  3. +1 because the seek and access times on USB external drives are much longer than on normal internal drives (I didn't read the bit that said 'external' in your original post) Yes BUT if you're running under Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit) DON'T put the game folder in either the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders as the game needs to have access to some files that Windows blocks. I advise you to create a new folder for example c:\IL2\ and put your game folder into there. The path to my installation is D:\IL-2 1946 (4.10.1)\ as I wanted it on a different partition (actually different drive but you get the picture) to Windows 7, and as I have multiple installations of the game I like to be able to identify the variations at a glance. Once you're done place shortcuts on your desktop to the game and JSGME and voila! Jabo P.S. Teamspeak server info is here
  4. Nah, you'll be OK Arthur, you just need to use the option to talk to a 'representative' (although what they're representative of is open to question). The auto activate will only work if you've not been changing hardware (which you have). The 'human' option takes that into consideration. Jabo
  5. £750 gets your drive shipped to Holland (possibly FT's house) where it's stripped in a 'clean room' environment, the platters are removed from the drive housing then mounted in a special machine which spins a read head around each platter (as opposed to the other way round) copying the available data a block at a time onto an external hdd. It's a pretty intensive process, but has a success rate of over 95%. Jabo
  6. Bad juju Arthur - happened to me a year or so back. gutted. On the positive side there are often ways to get data back from dead drives. The bad news is they're often pricey, although I'd be very wary of the cheapo offerings - they can sometimes make an already bad situation worse. For example, PC World have a data recovery service which I found to be pretty good although you're looking at about £750. What I liked about it was the fact that if the data wasn't recovered you'd get your money back. Jabo
  7. Yep, just put a shortcut to the il2fb.exe file on the desktop and you should be good to go, you might need to add shortcuts for JSGME and the UPupdater as well, but il2fb is the only vital one. Or just click through to the current location and double-click il2fb.exe - that'll work too! Jabo
  8. Welcome aboard Steve! Nothing wrong with being a bullet magnet - I like it! Jabo
  9. Well done Bojan!
  10. It's a good job you told us this Kimo. Make sure to write and tell Rolls Royce not to bother.... Anyhoo, here's what CJs spit used to look like. Odd-looking innit Jabo
  11. Ah, didn't know he'd had it re-engined Tom, it was certainly an unusual addition to the show circuit. Like the new paint job too. Jabo
  12. Adsl routers can sometimes be set up as switches, but as FT pointed out, this setup provides little or no additional protection. My view would be to ensure he has a good av package which is able to update itself automatically and also to ensure that the software firewall is on, and windows is also set for auto updates. As Gec says, some users are capable of getting themselves into difficulties regardless of the safeguards in place, but this is sufficient for most people. Jabo PS a cable router will provide more protection, they're pretty cheap, so it's the next logical step
  13. Yep, looks like it - glad you're sorted. Jabo
  14. Don't forget there's a PR Spit with a contra-rotating Griffon (I think) based in France at present. Turned up at Legends for the last few years. I wonder if it was a sort of test-bed for this mark of Seafire - it's about the right era. Nice vid BB. Jabo
  15. Duuno about sensible FT, but I can't see the point of a gamimg NIC. Given that most mainboards these days ship with a gigabit NIC, your network speed is limited by, well, the network, not the network card. FWIW Bucky, I'd be inclined to keep that $100 in your pocket for something else. Jabo
  16. Release date for the repaired chipsets looks set for mid-April ish. Apparently.
  17. Not sure this is a problem with il2 largie. Do you have any problems running any other .exe files? Or is it just il2? In my experience avg is notorious for this sort of thing. Failing that, run the updater to check your game files are good
  18. Dear lord, individual spark plugs? That's a beautiful piece of work - I wonder what it's valued at? Jabo
  19. I've got the trackclip and love it, it seems to work regardless of the ambient light levels, even working with the sun directly on the sensor. The lead did tangle with the headphone wire til I cable tied them together. Voila!
  20. They were pretty good I suppose (who am I kidding). It'll be good to see them in their own aircraft this time, rather than borrowed ones. On a related note, both the P-40 and the Bearcat have been in the air this week. This might be an indication that the Fighter Collection are getting the paperwork sorted so more of the collection can participate this time round (they've not had much of an airing over the last couple of years). It'll be nice to see the Ironworks again and (hopefully - fingers crossed) the P-47. Jabo
  21. Further to my earlier post Bucky m8, my take on this is currently that while a high-end gfx card will cost you more now, consider your position two or three years down the line. Your card which is a monster today, will still be a polished performer then and so won't need changing for quite some time. Also, shop around for the best deals. I don't know the US/Canadian markets that well (at all really), so I can't suggest suppliers, but check for warranties on things you buy, most places only do 12 months, but with a bit of research you can find suppliers offering 24 or 36 months - peace of mind when you've pushed the boat out for an expensive bit of kit. You've got some nice items on your wish list m8 - keep refining it until you're happy with the performance/price. Jabo
  22. Oooooooh indeed, I am seriously loving that. Is there a link or a release date Tom?
  23. I think the key here is the gfx card. You really need 1.5gb of memory on the card, 2gb if possible. Top single gpu units at present are the nvidia gtx580 and the ati radeon 6970 (I think) although this market changes fast. Personally I'd go down the route of an intel sb chip and board (probably an ASUS p67 variant) for the backbone, but ask five people and you'll get five different answers. Dell in the uk have a reasonable reputation (for domestic customers anyway) but I much prefer to know beforehand what's going to be in the box. I'll struggle to get change out of £1k for the rig I want so you should be able to do better over there. Jabo
  24. Creative fata1ity 1000 headset. I'm happy with it
